Delta Community Leadership Tussle: Burutu council boss, Takeme restores peace in Tuomo, warns against lawlessness

Tuomo, a riverine community in Delta State Burutu Local Government Area, is experiencing renewed calm following decisive intervention by local authorities to settle a heated leadership crisis. On Monday, Burutu LGA Chairman, Hon. Dr. Julius Takeme, led a peace delegation to the area, spearheading reconciliation discussions and reinforcing the government’s commitment to long-term stability.

Dr. Takeme highlighted his administration’s resolve to implement Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s broader peace and security strategy for Burutu LGA. Addressing the main source of discord—the controversial selection process for a new Amananawei (traditional ruler)—he emphasized the need for transparent and lawful resolution to avoid further division within the community.
“The council has zero tolerance for lawlessness or abuse of power,” Dr. Takeme declared, warning against intimidation, violence, or any form of extrajudicial detention. In direct remarks to Tuomo Community Chairman Mr. Edonyaibo Morentei Warebi and the newly confirmed Amananawei, Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi, he stressed the responsibility of leadership to uphold legality and promote inclusiveness.

“Leadership should be anchored on the rule of law, not on threats or coercion,” he told them, urging both leaders to unite the community and fulfill their electoral commitments. He further warned against any mishandling of the reconciliation process, assuring residents that the administration remained fully invested in protecting lives and fostering peace.
The chairman was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included the Nigeria Police Area Commander for Burutu, ACP Redengha Timpa, whose on-the-ground presence was vital in maintaining order and preventing renewed conflict. Senior officials from the local government also joined the mission, demonstrating a coordinated approach to crisis management.

During his address, Dr. Takeme commended the police for their professionalism and praised ACP Timpa’s continuous engagement as a key factor in defusing tensions and restoring a sense of security among residents.
In response, Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi delivered a vote of thanks, acknowledging the chairman’s consistent intervention and pledging to work tirelessly for peace and unity. Community Chairman Mr. Warebi promised a leadership style grounded in inclusiveness and dialogue, describing this period as an opportunity to rebuild community trust and heal divisions.

Chief Ebiyemi further assured the council of his readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders in promoting a more harmonious and united Tuomo.

Battle for the soul of Asorock Villa 2027, coalition adopts ADC as new party, picks David Mark as National lnterim Chairman

In a strategic political twist ahead of the 2027 elections, a powerful anti-Tinubu alliance has finalized plans to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political platform — shelving earlier ambitions to float the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) due to looming structural and legal complications.

Spearheading this historic coalition is none other than David Mark, respected former Senate President (6th & 7th Assembly), who has been unanimously chosen to serve as the Interim National Chairman of the rebranded movement.

This bold repositioning is said to have the strong backing of political heavyweights including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential flagbearer Peter Obi, and influential ex-Governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
With momentum building and the 2027 political chessboard rapidly shifting, all eyes are now on the ADC — the emerging vessel of Nigeria’s most anticipated political coalition. A new movement is rising, and the countdown has begun.

Opinion: The 12 Day Conflict Between Israel-Iran, a War of Ideas, Brains, Science and Technology, Where is the Place of Africa?

Francis Tayor

Israel and Iran are not just fighting with missiles; they're fighting with ideas, brains, and laboratories. For years, they've been preparing for this war, not with slogans like in Africa, not with solidarity concerts or national fasts, but with scientists, engineers, and mathematicians – people they train, nourish, respect, and sometimes discreetly protect.

Before the recent missile attacks, Israel had already launched a more insidious war: the elimination of Iranian scientists. Several professors were assassinated because, in this part of the world, it's understood that the real danger isn't the tank but the one who designs it.

However, Iran didn't cry over it; instead, it trained new brains and invested in its universities and research centers. Today, the missiles flying over Tel Aviv aren't coming from American factories but are made in Iran by Iranian children and researchers.

What makes this missile war even more fascinating is that it caught everyone off guard. Almost no one expected Iran to have such a high level of technological mastery. Even the powerful Iron Dome, Israel's pride and that of its allies, was overwhelmed. According to available information, the precision of Iranian strikes was stunning. I'm not sure Israel expected that. It seems Iran studied how the Iron Dome works and then outsmarted it – not by chance or miracle, but through science, by modifying the physical laws of its missiles to achieve exactly what it wanted.
Meanwhile, what is Africa doing? It's waiting for manna from heaven. It's praying. It allocates budgets for 4x4 vehicles, presidential trips, and election campaigns, but not for science, research, or intelligence.

The Iran-Israel war is primarily a war of knowledge. And guess what? Iran is gaining points. Why? Because it understands that in today's world, whoever controls science controls their destiny. Those who depend on others to think, produce, heal, or defend remain slaves, even if dressed in a minister's suit.

And what about us? What's our mission? Apart from producing corrupt politicians, bureaucrats, and millionaire pastors? Our best brains leave every day, and those who stay are humiliated, starved, and treated like useless parasites. We've turned our universities into glorified high schools and our professors into beggars.

Then we're surprised that no one thinks critically. We're surprised that research yields nothing. But how can we produce thought when we're hungry, living in contempt, and led by people who don't even know what a laboratory is?

While others invest in technology, we build mosques and churches. While they fund science, we buy bags of rice to buy votes. While they aim for Mars, we pray for rain. We might be the most religious people on the planet, but we're also the most dependent.

Until we understand that true prayer is action, Africa will remain a continent that everyone flies over – except its own children.

Otuaro salutes former Nigerian President, late Yar'Adua for establishing Presidential Amnesty Programme, describes him as a true patriot, selfless leader

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, has applauded the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua for proclaiming amnesty for former agitators of the Niger Delta and also establishing the progamme.

He spoke at the 2nd President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua International Leadership Conference and Awards themed "Electoral Management Institution: Midwife of True Democracy, Development, and Prosperity," which was organised by the Global Initiative for Leadership Success in Abuja on Saturday.

Otuaro, who received a corporate service award in recognition of his efficient administration of the PAP at the event, noted that Yar'Adua also created the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs before inaugurating the PAP as part of his response to the civic demands of the region's people.

Describing him as ‘a selfless leader and a patriot,’he said Yar'Adua, who governed the country from May 29, 2007, to May 5, 2010, was deeply concerned about the need for guaranteed sustainable peace, stability, and development in the region.

Represented by his Special Assistant on Data and ICT, Monabe Mitee, the PAP Administrator, while paying tribute to the former Katsina State governor's memories, extolled his exemplary and exceptional leadership as well as his high ethical and moral values in public service.
"President Yar'Adua was a listening leader, and this was evident in his response to the civic demands of the Niger Delta people.

"He not only proclaimed amnesty for the region's freedom fighters at the time, but he also established the Presidential Amnesty Programme which I am heading today by the benevolence of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and as a precursor to the programme he also created the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs," Otuaro said.

He further said that Yar'Adua operated an efficient administration in Katsina State as a governor and left indelible development footprints with profound impacts on education and infrastructure across the state.

He said Yar'Adua had a deep understanding of the burden of leadership and brought this to bear in the governance of the country when he was elected president in 2007, ‘showing an unwavering commitment, zeal, and dedication to fix and transform Nigeria’ through his seven-point agenda.

Otuaro noted that the insight and reasons that informed the organiser's initiative were noble, as they had provided a platform to celebrate, honour and immortalize Yar'Adua and his legacies.

The PAP Administrator added, "He also ran a government of national unity to demonstrate his faith in a nation united by common aspirations for the attainment of national development, peace, security, progress, and shared prosperity and greatness.

"I believe that President Yar'Adua would have contributed much more of his quota to the country's development process if his tenure had not been cut short by his protracted illness and eventual demise in office. He would be remembered for his selfless service. He was, indeed, a patriot!"

Fubara addresses supporters after Peace Deal with Wike at Portharcourt, says the price of peace is heavy but necessary for the good of Rivers people

…say I won’t abandon Rivers people, but the price of peace ‘ll be heavy

In a defining moment for Rivers State’s fragile political landscape, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has broken his silence on the controversial reconciliation process with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, declaring that the state must now embrace peace, however painful, or risk total stagnation.

Speaking on Saturday June 29, 2025, during a crucial meeting with his core supporters under the banner of Simplified Stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara delivered a candid, emotionally charged address in which he admitted that the cost of ending the long-running political war would be “heavy,” but insisted that it was a necessary sacrifice for the greater good of Rivers State.

“We have fought,” Fubara acknowledged, “and anyone who is sincere knows we have done all we can. But the only real solution now is peace. There’s no price too big to pay for it, and I meant every word.”

In what appears to be the clearest confirmation yet of behind-the-scenes negotiations,

Fubara revealed that he has met with his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, and acknowledged the emotional toll on both sides. “He is hurt, and so am I,” the governor said.
“But we must rise above personal pain for the interest of our people and the stability of our state.”

The governor’s address marks a significant turning point in the bitter power tussle that has divided the political establishment in Rivers State for months, paralyzing development, grounding legislative activity, and raising national concern over stability in one of Nigeria’s most strategic oil-producing states.

While recognizing Wike’s controversial role in his emergence, Fubara did not shy away from calling for honest reflection. “Nobody can deny the role the FCT Minister played.

But also, no peace broker can truly succeed until both parties sit together and agree. We have now reached that point.”

Still, his tone was far from celebratory. Governor Fubara was brutally honest about the potential fallout.

“The sacrifice required for total peace will be heavy. But I will not abandon you. I am making that commitment today.”

Political analysts believe the governor’s remarks are a calculated attempt to consolidate internal support ahead of difficult concessions in the days ahead.

His appeal for unity under the banner of supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could also signal alignment with the national peace efforts rumored to be behind the sudden détente.

Yet, even as Fubara preaches reconciliation, skepticism lingers in many quarters. Critics argue that a forced peace with Wike may come at the cost of institutional independence and democratic accountability in the state.

Others warn that the governor’s loyalists, many of whom view Wike’s influence as overbearing and undemocratic, may not accept the truce without internal resistance.

As Governor Fubara invoked the parable of the native Tilapia , urging stakeholders to lie low for survival and future growth, the underlying message was unmistakable: the bruising political battle may be ending, but the wounds are fresh, the stakes remain high, and the road to genuine reconciliation is long and uncertain.

Rivers State watches.

Ijaw nation to witness historic gathering on August 16, as lYC Spokesman, Binebai sets to launch two books titled: "Kaiama Declaration, Rising Tide

Francis Tayor

First in history in council as the Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Amb (Dr) Binebai Yerin Princewill announced Saturday 16th of August 2025 for the Launching of two Books titled "Kaiama Declaration and Rising Tide, The Ijaw Youth" Council and the Struggle for Self-determination sponsored by the office of Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide.

Dr Binebai Yerin Princewill made the announcement on Friday at his office annex in Warri, Delta State.
Amb. Binebai noted that he decided to embarked on the tasking project having discovered that the circumstances and sacrifices of some notable ljaw sons and daughters leading to the formation of the reverend council was not properly documented by past leaders of council in any hardcopy or visual for  reference purpose by the present generation as well as our children in the future.

He emphasized that many illustrious ljaw sons and daughters lost their lives in the process and there is need to recognize and immortalize those who have sacrificed and contributed for ljaw nation both the living and the dead.
According to him, arrangement towards launching of the two historic books is gradually kicking off as soon as  possible as his visits to Ijaw leaders will soon be seen in the public.

While speaking on the contents of the books, Binebai noted that it is high time the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) make deliberate efforts in documenting its history and activities, adding that preserving the history of Council in written form is very important.

The Spokesman stressed that though it was not easy to work on the project of documenting the rich history of Council but noted that he is thankful to the team of academic Ijaw professors and Doctors that took out their time to craft perhaps one of the most inspiring and well written books regarding Ijaw nation and Niger Delta.

However, Amb Princewill noted that while the drama titled Kaiama Declaration deals with the events and activities leading to the Kaiama declaration which ultimately gave birth to the IYC, it also immortalises founding fathers of council and critical stakeholders within the IYC.

On the other hand, Rising Tide, The Ijaw Youth Council and the Struggle for Self-determination deals with mind blowing contributions from different academic giants who dealt with the burning issues faced by the Ijaws in the Nigerian State.

"This is just an advert, let us not say everything here as the coming days will be interesting with the official unveiling of the Chairman of the occasion and other dignitaries that will be gracing the occasion, stay tuned " Binebai Yerin Princewill Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council added.

Meanwhile, Princewill noted that the historic launching of the two books will be taking place in Delta State, Warri on Saturday 16th of August 2025.

Niger Delta advocate group writes an open letter to President Tinubu, NSA, NNPCL to ignore campaign of calumny against Tantita, appeals to expand contract base

Francis Tayor

A Niger Delta human and environmental rights advocate group under the aegis of Niger Delta Rights Watch Group (NDRWG), has written an open letter to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser to the President, Malam Nuhu Ribadu as well as the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to ignore the false allegations and clueless campaign of calumny against Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited owned by High Chief. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo by some unscrupulous elements from the ltsekiri ethnic nationality who are addicted in oil bunkering activities in the region, stressing that Tantita Security has brought sanity and cleanliness to the once bastardized Niger Delta environment by the activities of the oil thieves over the years.
In the open letter co-signed by Jeffery Pere Oromoni, ESQ as President and Bobby Idemudia, ESQ as Publicity Secretary of the body, described the meaningless protest and petitions by the ltsekiri ethnic nationality as envy, misleading, jealous and unjustifiable, noting that the same contract was awarded to the King of Itsekiri nation and there was no time the ljaws have protested against their king.

The body exonerated the good works and successes recorded so far by Tantita Security Services in restoring clean environment in the Niger Delta region, meaningful engagement of thousands of unemployed Niger Deltans and rendering of uncountable humanitarian services to the people of Niger Delta thereby ensuring enduring peace and economic stability of the nation Nigeria.
Read in full details of the open letter below:

‎OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR

‎Reject the Smear Campaign: Support Tantita Security Services for a Peaceful, Safer and Cleaner Niger Delta.
‎Your Excellency,
‎We write to you on behalf of Niger Delta Rights Watch, an independent organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights, socio-economic justice, environmental sustainability, peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
‎As a human and environmental rights organization, we remain committed to defending the rights of individuals and communities through advocacy, litigation, and petitions.
‎We are compelled to address recent calls by certain Itsekiri groups for the cancellation of the Federal Government’s contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd, citing alleged grievances over their operations within Itsekiri territories.
‎We consider these calls unjustified, misleading and dangerous.
‎Since its engagement by the Federal Government, Tantita Security Services has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the protection of the environment, the rule of law and the suppression of oil theft and illegal bunkering  activities that have long devastated the Niger Delta’s fragile ecosystem.
‎Tantita’s efforts have not only curbed widespread oil theft but have also contributed significantly to restoring environmental health in previously polluted communities. Their impact is evident in the territories under their jurisdiction, which are now among the few areas in the Niger Delta with visibly cleaner and safer environments.
‎We are deeply concerned that this campaign of calumny against Tantita is being spearheaded by a faction of Itsekiri elites and their associates, individuals who have historically benefitted from oil bunkering and vandalism of national assets. These elements, whose criminal operations have been dismantled by Tantita’s effective interventions, are now attempting to undermine the company’s credibility and obstruct its legitimate operations.
‎Their goal is simple: to resume illegal activities under the guise of ethnic grievance.
‎Let it be stated unequivocally: Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd operates strictly within the bounds of its contractual obligations and national law. It has shown professionalism, transparency and integrity in its operations. These unrelenting attacks against Tantita are nothing more than desperate attempts by criminal networks to discredit a security outfit that has disrupted their illicit operations.
‎We therefore call on Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser and the Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to ignore these false narratives and continue supporting Tantita Security Services. In fact, we urge the government to expand the company’s operational coverage to the entire Niger Delta region.
‎Tantita Security Services deserves not vilification but commendation. Their continued presence and efforts are critical to preserving our environment, safeguarding national resources and securing the livelihoods of law-abiding citizens across the Niger Delta.
‎Yours sincerely,

Signed:
‎JEFFREY PERE OROMONI, ESQ.
‎President.

BOBBY IDEMUDIA, ESQ.
Publicity Secretary.

Just-ln: Senator Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation presents over 14million educational support grant to 148 Bayelsa Law School Students

According to the senator representing the good people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District at the upper chambers in the National Assembly, Abuja stated as follows:

"Today, on behalf of the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation (HSDF), I presented an educational support grant to 148 Bayelsa students of the Nigeria Law School (2024 Session). The sum total of the grant is ₦14,800,000 (Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira), at a disbursement rate of ₦100,000 per student.

"As everyone knows, every year, the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation organises scholarships and grants for students of tertiary institutions, as well as scholarships for students to pursue various courses of study at the Hensard University, which is fast becoming a preferred destination for academic excellence.
"I thank the partners of the Foundation, who include corporations, individuals, and other stakeholders. We continue to solicit support to enable us to sustain our efforts in developing human potential—which, as I have repeatedly emphasised, is the most important investment anyone can make. Everyone is aware of the priority I gave to education during my tenure as Governor. Investing in education is not the responsibility of government alone; I call on individuals, corporations, and all people of goodwill to support this vital endeavour.

"This year, I will also flag off another pet project of mine, which is the provision of community health support and grants, through working in partnership with the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS)—an initiative I established by law as Governor, and which has continued to serve the people of Bayelsa effectively. This is yet another area where I encourage our leaders and elders to assist—to support the poor and vulnerable in our society, rather than leaving the responsibility solely to government.
"I congratulate this year’s beneficiaries and urge them to view this grant as a token of my support. They should strive to excel in their studies and represent us honourably across various fields of endeavour—not only in politics and governance, but also in the private sector, particularly in the professional and corporate spheres where our people are significantly underrepresented."

Once again, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the beneficiaries", the statement added.

What ls All About NATO, lts Role and Global Interest Just like the UN, EU in the World?

The war in Ukraine ended a long period of peace in Europe. NATO is more important than ever. But what is NATO’s role in the world? And why is NATO important for the Netherlands? We’ll explain all of this below.

Safety and security in the Netherlands
A safer world also means a safer Netherlands. Why? Take for instance terrorism, nuclear weapons or cyberattacks. These threats have one thing in common: they don’t stop at borders.

So our own safety and security often starts abroad. That’s why it’s important to have good relations with other countries. And to protect stability in the world together. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs works hard to do this. NATO also plays an important role. But what exactly is NATO?

What is NATO?

NATO stands for ‘North Atlantic Treaty Organization’. It is a military alliance of 30 countries in Europe and North America. Its headquarters is in Brussels. The Netherlands is a member of NATO. NATO was set up in 1949, not long after the end of the Second World War. Its aim: to protect the security and freedom of all the countries that are members (the Allies). And right now, that Alliance is perhaps more important than ever.
Worldwide Security Challenges:

The world is a less safe place than before. Even in areas near the Netherlands. Take for instance the war in Ukraine started by President Putin. Or China: a growing global economic and military power that is flexing its muscles more and more often. Technological developments also lead to new threats, like cyberattacks. Or the use of modern weapons, like drones, that can attack targets without humans having to risk their lives.

And climate change can also lead to more conflicts, or make conflicts worse. Countries need each other so they can prevent and combat these global threats.

NATO and Diplomacy:

NATO is a defensive military alliance. You might think NATO is all about military action. But there is another very important step that comes first. NATO’s main priority is diplomacy. By talking to each other and with other countries, we try to solve conflicts without using force.

Within NATO, the Allies work together and make agreements. For instance on protecting democratic values. Examples are: being able to hold free and fair elections, equal rights for everyone, and freedom of expression.
Within NATO, military and non-military experts meet to exchange information about what is happening in the world. In this way, NATO prepares itself for the challenges and threats of today and of the future. With military and diplomatic action.

NATO in the World:

NATO also helps other countries – that aren’t members of NATO – with their security. For instance by helping them train their soldiers. NATO soldiers can also be sent to deal with a crisis. This is important for the Netherlands too. Because the world is becoming more and more closely connected. And our safety and security is also connected to that of other countries.

Article 5: what happens if a NATO country is attacked?

An attack one of NATO’s member countries is an attack on all of them.

Article 5 is the most important part of the North Atlantic Treaty, the treaty on which NATO is based. If one NATO member country is attacked, all members will provide it with military support. This way, the country that has been attacked doesn't stand alone. The attack doesn't have to be with tanks and guns; it could also be a cyberattack, for instance.

So basically, NATO make us safer together. But how does a country become a member of NATO?

When can a country join NATO?

A country can’t just simply join NATO. There are certain requirements and steps that the country has to take.

Step 1: the country must meet NATO’s three basic requirements. Only European countries and countries in North America can join NATO. That was decided when NATO was first set up. The country must be democratic. And the country must contribute to security in the European-Atlantic region.

Step 2: the country must take part in the Membership Action Plan. This means the country is assessed and given help with meeting NATO’s other requirements. Those requirements have to do with freedom, human rights, democracy and the legal system. Sometimes it means that reforms are needed in the country that wants to be a member.

Step 3: the country must agree to NATO’s aims, rights and obligations. The country makes these agreements in talks with NATO members.

Step 4: all NATO member countries must agree to the country’s membership. All NATO members sign a document called the accession protocol.

Step 5: the country’s own people must agree to NATO membership. This can be decided by parliament, or by holding a referendum.
Every country is different. So some countries may take longer to become a member than others.

NATO and the Netherlands
To protect our way of life, the Netherlands works to build a strong Europe and a strong NATO. By working together with other countries and making agreements with them, we stand stronger in the world.

This is why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs works to make sure there is close cooperation in NATO. And also in the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN). The Netherlands also believes it’s important for NATO and the EU to work together closely. So that we can spot any risks to our security as soon as possible. Together we can find solutions to global challenges. That is the best way to defend the Netherlands’ freedom and security.

Towards the Demarketing of Tompolo and Otuaro_ A Must Read Captivating Article By: Enewaridideke Ekanpou

Occasional Christmas is everyman's entitlement however the period of waiting. The peak of 'ayebeism' (foolishness) is to laze away and wait for one's occasional Christmas in life because life's occasional Christmas does not come without hardwork. When Christmas is eagerly awaited without hardwork, it becomes the drama of waiting for Godot who is still being awaited.

Once in life every man is blessed with a noised celebration and thereafter he lives in silence towards the equitably apportioned graveyard silence. The man who wants more than the equitably apportioned occasional flare of noised celebration in life ends up being a monster of disasters or a perpetrator of atrocities against fellow beings on earth. The man who obstructively dances towards another man in his occasional moment of  noised celebration is a preternaturally evil man unworthy of companionship. For such lazy waiters the dramatist, Samuel Beckett, should be tasked to awaken them to the folly of waiting for occasional Christmas without hardwork as the foundational honey and invitation.

Currently, at me a theological vein tugs without stop. The theological vein tugging at me reveals that sin came into this wide world through one man; salvation also came into this wide world through one man. Similarly, my tugging historical vein tells me the Amnesty in the Niger Delta over which some persons have either turned the civet cat up the raffia palm tree or have turned denigratory professional dancers with a specialisation in propaganda and minimisation, came through Tompolo in 2009. Then High Chief Dr Tompolo, Chief Dr  Dennis Otuaro, Chief Kestin Pondi, Dr Paul Bebenimibo and notable other agitators were in the forest exposed to the unsolicited communication from mosquitoes. President Musa Yar Adua  breathed a sigh of relief only after Tompolo had claimed the Amnesty extended to him. Tompolo only opted for Amnesty after pressures mounted on him by virtually all the Ijaws.

We  know from available statistics that the real sea pirates terrorising the Niger Delta at that time who hurried to take Amnesty as an opportunity to part way with their notorious maritime brigandage.  When the main agitators were yet to decide on what to do, pondering on the likely implications on the Niger Delta struggle, the notorious sea pirates were hurriedly all over the place like bees expelled from their abode. Some of those sea pirates are today the ones parading themselves as emperors, creating teleguided negative narratives on Tompolo, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and PAP office. They are the inheritors of the property of that biblical woman before King Solomon whose baby had died but who wanted the living baby of her neighbour torn into two because she no longer had anything to hold unto as hers.
The man from whom PAP came into existence  was Tompolo. It was Tompolo's single-minded visionary freedom struggles that opened the gate to Amnesty waters to flow. Such freedom legend in the Niger Delta agitation deserves respect from all the beneficiaries of PAP. Though existing historical facts point to Tompolo as the origination point of PAP, he has never been deservedly treated in corresponding reflection of this reality.

Right from its beginning, PAP had often been run mostly by persons who had little or no roots in the Niger Delta struggle. They often ran PAP without a thought on the man from whom PAP came into this world. They ran the office according to their own whims and caprices, away from the core values that are supposed to drive the programme towards total disarmament, rehabilitation, reintegration and empowerment. Tompolo was not even bothered when everybody knew he was not fully integrated into the activities of PAP  by past administrators. He did not begrudge those privileged to run PAP at that time because he believed there was time for everything on earth.

People must not be in a hurry to forget that while  Tompolo's time had not come in fullness like full moon as regards PAP and how they ran the office, he did not launch a verbal war against anyone, neither did the likes of Bebenimibo, Pondi and Otuaro. They all respectfully kept their distance and watched the activities without verbal exertions through either instigation or masterminded blackmail and propaganda targeted to eject the occupant of the PAP office from his designated seat. Tompolo, Otuaro and others only maintained a dignified silence while others manned the office because they knew everything on earth was time by time, as Barrister Soja Smooth has always lyrically stressed in his musically channelled philosophical thoughts.

Yesterday, just yesterday,  as it was decreed by God, Tompolo was contractually engaged to stop crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta. Again, not too long, Dr Dennis Otuaro was appointed the Administrator of PAP. Right from the contractual engagement of Tompolo on whose behalf TANTITA now does the job excellently, and the appointment of Otuaro as PAP boss, both in the maritime sector and the PAP office job performance has changed dramatically in positive dimensions to the discomfort of those reactionary forces habitually conditioned to suffocate progress spotted anywhere on earth. Because Tompolo and Otuaro are involved, propagandist moves and dances are everywhere to distort the true identities of Tompolo and Otuaro in their various national assignments so that Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Tinubu could authorise that the ejection injection be given to them for space evacuation in preparation for space-filling by the vendors of image-pulverisation.

It is known to everyone that before TANTITA came into the scene of  oil theft and pipeline vandalism, there were envious moves  by the self-styled emperors of Amnesty shamelessly enacted to stop the contractual and appointive engagement of Tompolo and Otuaro but it fizzled out like a fire drenched and defeated by heavy downpour at night - in fact caught bedraggled like JP Clark's bats in his poem 'Night rain', unable fly at dawn. Now there are teleguided moves to demarket Tompolo and Otuaro so they could be relieved of their present national  engagements. Why have you forgotten that Tompolo and Otuaro maintained dignified distance and silence while others were charged with their present engagements? Could this be envy ? Could this be signs of people suddenly gripped by either madness or stupidity?
Those who are masters of blackmail and propaganda can do anything they like  but Tompolo and Otuaro will always remain who they are: committed to the pursuit of their vision for a better Nigeria in their various engagements. Oil theft and pipeline vandalism will be totally eradicated in no distant time and that PAP will always abide by its core values by which all the components of PAP  are progressively driven.

It must now be loudly drummed verbally here that however the envy-tainted moves of the masters of blackmail and propaganda, Tompolo and Otuaro are key to peace and security in the Niger Delta because they always engage the core stakeholders to achieve the much desired results.Tompolo and Otuaro are very much on the right path in their various engagements and therefore, far away, federally instigated EJECTION injections will elude Tompolo and Otuaro. Ejection is only possible in JP Clark's AMERICA THEIR AMERICA, not in the Niger Delta where Niger Delta is indeed our Niger Delta attuned to the attainment of the core values of maritime security and borderless development- rather than NIGER DELTA THEIR NIGER DELTA which is the prized creation pursued by the detractors of Tompolo and Otuaro because it is rooted in EJECTIONS from occupied spaces.

The ripples from enemies targeted to displace Tompolo and Otuaro will not work because ripples of blackmail and propaganda are not different from wakes in a river. Wakes are incapable of causing shipwreck. Tompolo and Otuaro will not be caught in the nets thrown on their paths because they  have not sinned in any way to warrant being netted and ejected. The targeted ripples will only turn against the detractors and mischief-makers like undertows in their return journey from the shoreline when the shoreline furiously  rains blows on the undertows and gets them broken  into pieces like broken pots.

FLOODING: Mulade calls for judicious use of Ecological Funds, blames governors on persistent floods, profers solution to tackle the menace

Renowned Niger-Delta born environmental and development advocate, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, has re-emphasized the need for the state government to judiciously apply the ecological funds to address and tackle the perennial flooding and erosion in the region.

According to the environmental advocate, while the federal government has spent over N600 billion to various States in the country for ecological funding and erosion control, he lamented that though the Niger Delta governors received a larger chunk of the funds, no significant impact has been made over the last 10 years.

"We commend the federal government for the support towards reducing ecological impact in the various flood prone states with erosion issues.

"For the Niger Delta States, there has been no improvement in the past 10 years. Despite the huge amount received, the Niger Delta States still experience perennial flooding, loss of lives, destruction of livelihood, and shortage of food as well as increase in unemployment due to washing away of farmland and crops," he lamented.

The development advocate took a swipe at the Niger Delta governors for turning the ecological fund into a looting jamboree through the setting up of what he described as "political Flood Management Committee" that are used to siphon away funds meant to address the perennial flood issue.

"It is imperative to State that failure of government at all levels is one of the greatest reason for the occurrence of the continuous flooding, loss of lives and destruction of properties in the Niger Delta States. Despite the huge investment of ecological funds in the region, the funds are diverted and swallowed up by political elites or gladiators of the region

"Political overbearing coupled with corruption have made the Niger Delta governors not to properly put in place measures to tackle and address this critical issues.

"Rather, in order to cover their failure and mismanagement of the funds, they set up a political Flood Management Committee in some state to oversee the impact of the flood with the means to siphon millions of naira at the erection of temporal IDP Camps without regard for modern facilities, portable water, sanitation and hygienic environmental measures. There is no proper drainage system, natural waterways were blocked by building houses on water courses and deforestation by community members," he added.

Mulade therefore called on the Niger Delta States to instead establish an agency that will tasked with oversight functions on the issue of perennial flooding in the region.

"The Niger Delta States need to create agencies saddled with specific responsibility to manage the funds, and respond to the construction of storm water dam systems, open existing drainage systems, and natural waterways," he proffered.

Opinion: QUI Approbat Non Reprobat: The Story of the Anti-Development Tendencies of the Itsekiri Nation_By Kasongo

The state was set for creation, it was a hysterical moment for the southern Bendelites. Expectations were rife that Warri would become the capital city of the proposed state. The economic status of the city coupled with its historic prestige made it the most ideal location for siting the capital city. Then came the discordant cries from the Itsekiris outrightly rejecting the proposal of Warri as the capital of the proposed state. Their response brewed tensions in the city as the original owners of the land - the Ijaws and the Urhobos expressed their support for the initial proposal. The dissenting voices threatened the entire proposal and the Grand Commander moved the capital city to the hometown of his dear wife. Today, Deltans are left with a life time reality of sharing a larger chunk of the state’s dividends with citizens of their neighbouring state who have taken undue advantage of the proximity to the detriment of Deltans. Ironically, the Itsekiri nation is the first and only ethnicity amongst the ethnic groups in Warri to have produced the governor of the state which creation they almost scuttled whilst rejecting the proposed location of the capital city.

The underdevelopment of the Niger Delta Region and the failure of the Nigerian government to implement the report of the Henry Willink’s Commission of 1957 ignited agitations majorly from the Ijaw people. Their demands in clear and unambiguous language was the development of the Niger Delta region, the economically fertile wife of the nation that is daily exploited and bruised by her husband without sufficient consideration. At the brink of birthing the NDDC, a commission with the statutory mandate of developing the Niger Delta region, the Itsekiris came out and announced that they are not in support of the proposed NDDC. They vehemently boycotted themselves from all stages that led to the establishment of the NDDC. Today, there are more Itsekiri Directors in NDDC than any other tribe in the Niger Delta. They are now eating from the pot of soup that they neither contributed in the provision of its ingredients nor participated in the cooking process.
The cumulative failures of the NDDC and the gross negligence of the Nigerian government sparked some nationalist from the Ijaw ethnicity to take up arms against the government targeting critical oil infrastructures. While other neighbouring ethnic groups expressed support or stood indifferent towards this trend, the Itsekiris demonstrated hostility towards the Ijaw nationalists. Their apex pressure group, Itsekiri Leaders of Thought made daily press statements condemning the actions of the Ijaw nationalists and urged the Nigerian government to crush the Ijaw people. Even in the state of genocidal attacks against harmless ijaw communities, they praised the Nigerian Military and expressed their support for the government’s attacks on Ijaw settlements.

In a twist of events, the Nigerian government offered an olive branch by way of declaration of presidential amnesty to the Ijaw nationalists. This decision was condemned by the Itsekiris who labeled the Ijaw nationalists as common criminals and advised the government to treat them as such. The nationalists who had previously risked their lives in the struggle, surrendered their arms and lives to the Nigerian government without any assurance of the sincerity of the government. Few years after the grant of amnesty to the Ijaw nationalists, the Itsekiris shamelessly opted to be incorporated into the amnesty programme. Instead of burying their heads in shame, they forwarded a petition before the National Assembly demanding for amnesty slots for a movement they openly opposed, condemned and dissociated themselves from. Out of sheer pity, the compassionate erstwhile President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan made an executive order that 500 youths from Itsekiri be offered with the socio-economic benefits to which the Ijaw nationalists are entitled to even though the Itsekiris never participated in the events that led to the amnesty offer. How best can you describe this other than an illustration of a people blowing hot and cold at the same time.

Less than a month ago, the current Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori made a shocking revelation of how he approached the Olu of Itsekiri for a piece of land to enable him construct an ultra modern stadium but was informed by the Olu outrightly that there was no land available for such within Warri. While I shall dwell on the powers of the Governor under Section 1 of the Land Use Act, 1978 in another article, I put it to all Itsekiris including the Olu that they are nothing short of  a crop of anti-development elements who can go any length to frustrate the realization of any development in Warri and Niger Delta but would be the first to whimsically churn out for inclusion and benefits from the same development they fought against. It is high time we estop them from benefiting from their own wrongs.
