Sustainable Community Development Initiative, The Youth Option, Engr John Akpoyibo Identify Quality Education Of Youths As Solution

Sustainable Community Development Initiative, The Youth Option, Engr John Akpoyibo Identify Quality Education Of Youths As Solution

Francis Tayor

Warri--------- The General Secretary National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Engr. John Akpoyibo has identified provision of quality education of our youths as a panacea for sustainable community development in our society, stressing that well meaning individuals should come into the system to complement government effort by providing education materials to schools in the rural communities.

The youth leader challenged all and sundry to measure their achievements in terms of contribution to advancement of education in our communities, saying the progress of the youth in our communities should be perceived as a manifestation of the over all development of our communities.

In breaking down the analysis, Engr Akpoyibo said ;" Human existence has always been in community from inception, as the collective and individual social needs are better met in a community; even in the cosmopolitan and mega cities of the world than in isolation. However, advancements in science and technology over the years have led to a gradual shift in the concept and practice of community life to an emerging pattern particularly in urban centers as well as cosmopolitan and mega cities.

This emerging concept is known as neighborhood life. The concept is of necessity as societies evolve over the centuries and become more complex in meeting the social needs that binds people together particularly in semi urban and mega cities. This is because of the human and social growth patterns, which if ignored would have ripple effect on millions of generation to come."

COMMUNITY

This is a people living in one place, district or country, considered as a whole. It is also defined as a group of people of the same religion, race, occupation, etc, with shared interest. It also means condition of sharing, having things in common, being alike in some way.

DEVELOPMENT

This simply means to grow gradually; become or make mature, become noticeable, visible or active. The next question is what is "sustainable community development "?

SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Sustainable community development is that gradual growth of the entire community over time that takes into consideration the welfare and well being of the youth cum the impact of the present activities on generation yet unborn. It underscores the quality of life, standard and continued shared interest of all for the common good of the community.

YOUTH IMPACT IN COMMUNITY.

It is a common saying that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, if the youth are truly the leaders of tomorrow, we need to critically address the twin issues of youth empowerment and creating a conducive environment to harness their full potentials for accelerated and sustainable community development. Youth empowerment is essentially equipping the youth with the basics (Formal and non-formal education, learning of different trades, vocational trainings, sport and social development, leadership and governance development programs) carefully designed for them to enable them see life in its true perspective and take on future challenges.

Providing a conducive environment to harness the full potentials of youth on the other hand is the provision of the basic educational, social, vocational training, sports, social, leadership  and governance infrastructure to enable them excel in any given field of endeavor. Today leaders must provide the means for the youth to appropriately explore the road map to sustainable community development, which is selfless service to community.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

Community development initiatives are basically the various aspect of self -help projects initiated by the indigene of any community aimed at improving the standard of life of the people in line with the dictates of modern civilization, development in science and technology. Over the years, little or no pragmatic effort was made by our people to develop our communities, development initiatives were left entirely in the hands of the local council and the state government except on cultural and traditional matters which were consciously and consistently developed , sustained and handed over to successive young generations.

The advent of formal education and Christianity via the missionaries in the late eighteen and early nineteenth century  brought a new horizon which became the measure of power, strength and sometimes wealth in the community.
It should and must be believed that massive quality education of youth is the only solution to an articulated and accelerated development of our first choice communities, where the minds of our youth will be liberated to give way for an all embracing development option that will allow the pulling together of professionalism and expertise relating to development not void of cultural and traditional obligations.

I challenge all and sundry to measure their achievements in terms of contribution to advancement of education in our communities. We should attach premium importance and subsequently donate educational materials for both our primary and secondary schools. The progress of the youth in our communities should be perceived as a manifestation of the overall development of our communities.

Therefore our collective contribution to the noble course should not be mortgaged for lesser options,he asserted."

Appeals To President Buhari To Adopt Non-Violence Approach To End Insecurity In Nigeria

Francis Tayor

Abuja-----Worried about the rising tension between security operatives and the Shi'ites Islamic Movement at the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, a renowned Niger Delta born global Peace ambassador cum human and environmental rights activist, Comrade Amb. Sheriff Mulade has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt a dialogue process and pragramatic non-violence approach to get out of the woods.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Comrade Mulade, who is also the National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, expressed concern over the tension caused by the recent clashes between the Shi'ites Islamic Movement and the Nigeria Police Force during the invasion of the National Assembly and recent deaths recorded by the former.

According to him, the increasing tension in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has become worrisome, stressing that it has sent a wrong signal of insecurity about Nigeria to the international community.
He said if the issues between the Islamic Movement and the Police are not urgently resolved, they might possibly escalate beyond Abuja and further compound the fragile peace situation in the country.

The activist therefore, strongly appealed to the President to rise up to the occasion by adopting dialogue, a pragramatic nonviolence approach, which he described as the best option to avert further confrontation that might escalate the crisis. He then urged President Buhari to do everything humanly possible to engage the Islamic Movement in a dialogue, before things get out hand.

He charged the President to put an engagement process in place to end insecurity in the country, saying that, as patriotic Nigerians, we cannot watch the country degenerate into another crisis. He noted that the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ was ready to offer expert services on conflict prevention, management and reconciliation through partnership with the Federal Government towards resolving the menace of insecurity. He said this could be achieved by facilitating a dialogue between the agitating group, security forces and the Federal Government.

His emphasized that the security of the entire Nation cannot be left in the hands of governermt and security agents alone, and urge patriotic Nigerians, irrespective of their religious, ethnic and political affiliation, let give maximum support to President Buhari, security agents and government at all levels, towards ending the spate of insecurity in the country.

He said we cannot pretend to be secure and safe under the prevailing circumstances, therefore, we should commence a constructive dialogue process aimed at finding lasting solutions to the insecurity challenges posed by the Islamic Movement, Niger Delta agitation, IPOB, Oduduwa People's Congress, OPC, amongst others. He warned that failure to end insecurity now might be very dangerous and counter productive for Nigeria.

FocalPoint Reports To Okowa, Save Deltans From Recycling Obsolete Politcians, Go For Merit

FocalPoint Reports To Okowa, Save Deltans From Recycling Obsolete Politcians, Go For Merit

Says Reckless Appointment Only Celebrates Ineptitude, Political Jobbers

Francis Tayor

A leading Warri based Media Organization known as FocalPoint Reports has charged Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Dr.Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to save Deltans from recycling ineptitude politicians into his Cabinet, stressing that reckless appointment of old fashioned politicians only glorifies political jobbers which is an outright disregard for merit and good governance.

The Publisher/Chief-Executive Officer CEO, of Focalpoint Reports, Comrade Ezekiel Kagbala made the call on Monday in Warri, stated that Governor Okowa should appoint people with fresh ideas, productive brains and minds known with proven integrity for positive impacting results into his cabinet and other parastatals in order to resurrect Delta State from its present industrial dearth to the next level of progress and development.

In his words, he said, " The Delta State Governor, Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa has recently sent the names of those nominated for appointment as Commissioners, Boards, DESOPADEC, Warri/Uvwie and its environs Development Agency, Delta State Capital Development Agency, Local Government Service Commission names to Delta State House of Assembly for approval.

The Governor also constituted Members of the State Executive Council to put his administration on the pedestrian of service to Deltans. Indeed a commendable venture with possible good intention but executed with injustice.

Only persons afflicted by some egregious naivete could insist that governor Okowa's second tenure where party favouritism is a strong norm is peopled by competence and merit.

That is why the recent recycling of former political office holders and politcians who lost popularity for gross ineptitude were recycled in the name of appointment, FocalPoint Reports sees it as a transactional style of government enmeshed in service to the ruling political party in the state.

We pray that the presumed people's Governor is not rewarding incompetence and shaming those who are positively impacting on the lives of the less - privileged.

It is unfortunate that those  who singlehandedly sponsored educational programmes, healthcare, sport, peace initiatives to sustain, empower and alleviate the sufferings of those impoverished by the transactional government are ignored in terms of appointments.

One such person of note is Comrade Sheriff Mulade who has been giving scholarship, organizing Quiz and Essay competition, Peace programmes without Governor Okowa's support, yet the governor seems to be rewarding mediocrity and turns a blind eye to merits, recycling former House of Assembly members to become advisers, reappointing former commissioners and former government office holders. By implication, Governor Okowa is saying that those not in the politics cannot participate in governance.

For the records, reckless appointment does not put any state government in a positive light and the appointments did not open up any novel vista, instead it only shows how a weak government will settle for weak appointees whose stock in trade is commercial politics.

The circumspection of the State House of Assembly seems to have become a rubber stamp outfit, a helpless garbage -in-garbage-out and miserably teleguarded to serve the governor.

We strongly oppose any form of opaqueness in the appointment process that may suggest a hidden agenda by those whose privilege and power is it to suggest who should be appointed or not.

A reckless appointment only glorifies and celebrates ineptitude and political jobbers which is an outright disregard for merit and tenets of good governance.

We feel that the Governor has failed to review the antecedents and performance of these fellows before recycling them. The governor would have at least call for public appraisal and stewardship of their past records of performance before recycling them.

It was expected that people with fresh ideas, productive brains and minds known with proven integrity for positively impacting results should be appointed into position of service to resurrect Delta State from its present industrial dearth, rather the recent appointment of board members, commissioners, advisers and special assistants  has shown that the governor is interested in transactional style of leadership.

Thus, the governor's appointment, as we in FocalPoint Reports sees it, should have been made up of those who are making positive and productive impact without having any government office or support, it would have been fair if the governor had allocated 50% of appointment to those noble minded persons who are making positive impacts supporting and sponsoring development oriented programmes, Comrade Kagbala stated. "

Amnesty Incompetency : Ijaw Group Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Charles Dokubo, Calls For Resignation

Amnesty Incompetency : Ijaw Group Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Charles Dokubo, Calls For Resignation

Charges President Muhammadu Buhari For His Immediate Replacement With Competent Hand

Francis Tayor

Warri ------A group under the auspices of Ijaw Youth Political Alliance (IYPA) has called on the SA and Coordinator to the President on the Federal Government Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo to step aside for fresh hand with fresh Ideas to maned the Amnesty office, stressing that the call is as result of incompetency and massive frauds under his watch.

The leader of the group, Comrade.Ellington Bakumor while addressing the Press during the weekend in Warri, said the call became necessary holding to the facts that,
Prof.Charles Dokubo doesn’t understand the office and keeps flopping .

Comrade Bakumor further highlighted some reasons why Dokubo should go for other competent hand to handle the Presidential Amnesty office as follows;

1) That Professor Charles Dokubo is an Ijaw man just by name, stressing that he has not visited and is not familiar with the riverine communities. He has never step his foot in the creeks and he is only familiar to those who visit him at Abuja .

2 ) That there has been countless cases of alleged fake contracts and scams in the amnesty office with neutral people going for training when Over 9000 real Ex-Agitators have remained untrained and remain a risk and threat to national Security. This is dangerous to the Nation's security.

3) That the Amnesty is no longer an Ijaw or Niger delta office but a Office manipulated by certain forces that are not from the Niger delta region, as Charles Dokubo has become nothing but a Pawn.

4) That Prof.Charles should be resting and allow younger fresher minds to Maned the office, preferably an Ex-Militant or someone who knows and understand the pains of the Niger delta and the Ex Agitators.

From all Indications , it is obvious that the Professor seems to be too confused and overwhelmed with the responsibilities attached to the office. We are therefore, calling on the resignation of the current Amnesty boss, as his continuous stay in that office will be detrimental to the people.

We are also calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to do the needful by replacing Charles Dokubo with someone more abreast with the real issues of the Amnesty office and the Niger Delta so as to win the trust and love of the Niger Delta people in order to bring lasting peace to the oil rich region,Comrade Bakumor asserted.

Comrade Bright made the statement in Warri during a press briefing frowns at the recent appointments made by His Excellency, Senator Dr.Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa with a total exclusion of the entire Egbema kingdom from the list of appointment into the State Executive Council, as well as in the Board of DESOPADEC.

According to Maya said, Egbema kingdom is wholly for PDP. We faithfully worked and massively voted for all the PDP candidates, including Governor Okowa's reelection in the 2019 general elections.

Maya reiterated that, among the Ten Federal Wards, the Egbema Ijaws have Four Wards while the Itsekiris host Six Wards. The Egbema Ijaws have never been given the opportunity to occupy any of the Principal Offices in the LGA either by elective or appointment.

Egbema kingdom produces 19% of the oil and gas production making Egbema the third highest oil and gas producer in the Ijaw DESOPADEC coverage areas, yet none Egbema person was considered worthy to be a part of the DESOPADEC governing board as submitted to the Delta State House of Assembly by the Governor.

This is undoubtedly a day light robbery, a clear display of continued denial, neglect and marginalization against the principles of inclusivity, equity and fairness.

The Egbema Ijaws will not this time lie low with this denial, neglect and marginalization.
If our economic and political contributions means nothing to the PDP led Delta State Government, then as a people we have no other choice but to have a rethink,Comrade Bright stated.
