Ekweremadu Sues NIMC, UBA, Others to Court Over Organ Harvest Allegation 

Embattled former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, have dragged the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations on human trafficking.

The suit filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court, Abuja, is for the commission to unravel the true age of their accuser, David Ukpo Nwamini.

Other defendants in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/984/2022, include the Comptroller General (C-G), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS); Stanbic-IBTC Bank; United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc as 2nd to 5th respondents respectively.

It would be recalled that Ekweremadu and his wife were last week Thursday arrested by the Metropolitan Police in Heathrow, London while on their way to Instanbul, Turkey.

The couple was tried before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court for allegedly conspiring to the trafficking of Ukpo to the UK for organ harvesting.

Prosecutors say Ukpo was a minor and was incapable of giving consent for a kidney transplant for Ms. Sonia Ekweremadu.

The Ekweremadus persistently denied the allegations but were remanded in prison until July 7 when the case would be called up for hearing.

In the suit filed on Monday by counsel to the couple, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, the Ekweremadus sought the court to pass an order directing NIMC to supply them with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the biodata information of David Nwamini Ukpo.

The applicants said Ukpo’s National Identification Number (NIN):19438077110, which is in the possession of the agency, should be produced for the purpose of facilitating the criminal investigation and tendering same to establish their innocence with respect to Ukpo’s age in the criminal charges against them before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court.

They also sought an order directing the NIS C-G to supply the applicants with the documents and application form of David Nwamini Ukpo in the possession of the 2nd respondent presented for the issuance of International passport No. BO0569974 for the purpose of assisting criminal investigation and issuing same before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court, UK until July 7 in the alleged criminal charge brought against the applicants.

The lawyer noted that documents being sought to be handed over to the applicants will support the applicants in their defence and establish their innocence of the charges in the interest of justice.

Also, Bright Ekweremadu, the elder brother of the lawmaker, in the affidavit deposed to, said Ukpo informed the couple that he was 21 years old, having been born in the year 2000 and was ready to help Sonia.

The Presidential Candidate and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has travelled out of the country to France.

According to his media office, the trip followed a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday morning.

While in Paris, the capital of France, Tinubu will hold some important meetings, his spokesperson, Tunde Rahman said in a statement.

However, multiple sources told SaharaReporters that the APC Presidential candidate was going to Paris to attend to his medical needs.

“What kind of meetings did he want to do in Paris that can’t be done in Lagos or Abuja, he is sick and needs medical attention, the stress of the campaign and primary has affected him,” a source close to the former Lagos governor told SaharaReporters.

In 2021 alone, Tinubu spent over 80 days patronising hospitals in France, United States and the United Kingdom where he underwent surgeries amid the poorly equipped hospitals in Nigeria led by the APC government.

He was flown out of the country some days before Christmas in 2020 to Paris, France.

There were speculations that he tested positive for COVID-19 but his media aide later denied such reports.

The APC leader returned to Nigeria on January 24, 2021, after a month’s absence from Nigeria. 

He then went for a medical check-up on Thursday, June 10, 2021, to France and was conspicuously absent from the one-day working visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos State.

“Tinubu is in Paris, France for a medical checkup. His health is deteriorating due to old age,” a top source had told SaharaReporters. 

SaharaReporters also reported that Tinubu was hospitalised in Maryland, the United States in July 2021 where he had knee surgery.

“Tinubu is hospitalised in Maryland, US. His health is failing. He couldn’t participate in launching his Arewa library, and he couldn’t participate in the Local Government Area elections last week. He could not attend today’s APC congress due to health reasons.

“He had a surgery last week,” an authoritative source had disclosed at the time. 

On August 9, 2021, Tinubu had another knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, the United States. 

The APC chieftain, it was learnt, left the US for the United Kingdom on crutches, a few days after the surgery.

Sources close to Tinubu had told SaharaReporters that he wanted the surgery in Paris, France but changed his plan over rumours of his death.

“Tinubu had his second surgery at John Hopkins University in Maryland recently. He was accompanied by a popular Nigerian doctor in Chicago. He had wanted the surgery in Paris but when rumour was rife about his death, he hurriedly left for Nigeria and went to John Hopkins,” one of the sources had said.

“He left the US for the UK on crutches,” another source had revealed.  

In 2021, the President paid a visit to Tinubu in London and the latter was seen with a walking stick during Buhari’s visit, confirming SaharaReporters’ story that he underwent a second surgery in the United States.

Tinubu currently toes the path of President Buhari, who himself has spent hundreds of days on medical leave in the United Kingdom since he assumed office in 2015.

Asaba______ The Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, today Monday 27th June, 2022 adjourned till 4th day of July, 2022 to hear the alleged certificate forgery suit filed against Hon. Asupa Forteta, the member representing Burutu North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

This suit was filed by Hon. Dan Yingi shortly after Hon Asupa Forteta  emerged as the Burutu North Peoples Democratic Party Flagbearer for the Delta State House of Assembly Election 2023. The plaintiff is praying  the Honourable Court to quash the defendant's nomination by the Peoples Democratic Party for the House of Assembly Election 2023 for supplying fake certificates and in the stead nominate him.

Although the suit was slated for hearing  today, the trial judge, however, adjourned it to the 4th day of July, 2022 for an accelerated hearing following an appeal by counsel to defendant that he was briefed lately and yet to prepare their defence. In view of the circumstance, he asked for a short adjournment which was not opposed by plaintiff's counsel and the matter was adjourned to the 4th day of July, 2022.

Russian forces have fully taken over the Ukrainian Luhansk region after conquering the city of Severodonetsk.

Severodonetsk mayor, Oleksandr Stryuk told Ukrainian TV on Saturday following weeks of heavy Russian shelling that has reduced the city mostly to ruins.

The mayor said that the only way out of the city was through Russian-held territory as many civilians have been sheltering at the vast Azot chemical plant.

“The Russians have fully occupied Severodonetsk, our military has retreated to more prepared positions,” Oleksandr Stryuk told Ukrainian TV.

Pro-Russian rebels allied with the Russian army say they have moved into parts of Lysychansk.

David Nwamini Ukpo, the young man involved in the controversial organ harvesting saga that landed Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice in trouble in Britain, has taken to his Facebook wall to explain how he met the Senator and was allegedly lured from Nigeria to London for the harvesting of his kidney without his consent.

Ukpo narrated his side of the story in a Facebook post on Saturday, June 25, 2022, where he also posted his Visa page to back up his claims, even as Senator Ekweremadu and his wife remain in detention, having been denied bail by a London magistrates’ court where they were arraigned hours after their arrest on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

Entiled “My journey to UK”, Ukpo’s unedited post reads thus:

“On one fateful day I met a man named okoro in a building site where I was working for my daily bread, okoro told me he like me, he want to help me achieve my dream because he saw me as a great person. He told me could you like to work in UK I just started laughing because I don’t have money for that, then I told him no am not interested and asked me why I told him I don’t have money for that.

“He just started laughing to me and told me he is going to introduce me to senator his company in UK need workers, so he could start my visa processing.

“I have no other option than to accept the offered, after two day the man came to the building site again and told me the senator wanted to see me so we could start the visa processing, then I dropped my shovel and head pan and went to bath immediately.

“Mrs okoro took me to unknown area where I haven’t been before, I was afraid maybe he is a money ritualist, I encouraged my self since I knew Mr okoro for a long time there will be no problem. Mr okoro hand me over to one young man wearing a suit, he told me everything about then I told him Mr okoro has already explain everything to me and I have accepted to work in UK.

“Next day these young man introduced me to another man immediately I saw the man I greeted him, I don’t know his name then he told me he is the owner of the company that want workers in UK and ask me if am interest to work I said yes sir immediately with happiness all over my heart.

“Their later gave me a room on that mansion and snap me a passport photographs and told their will start my visa processing immediately. the kind of food I ate there my generation haven’t ate it before. I was so happy staying in that house. After a week their told me my visa and passport are ready their told we are going to leave tomorrow, I was taken to airport from there we land in UK I was taken to a hospital in UK.

“When we landed in hospital in UK I was told I must went for a medical test to check my health status, if I’m fit for the job I accepted without any question. I thank God for doctor harry who told me everything and I told him why I’m here and he later called police for my rescued. ”
