IPDI CONDEMNS KILLING OF DANZU MICHAEL IN BENET BY NIGERIAN MILITARY, WANTS THE PERPETRATORS BROUGHT TO JUSTICE

Press Release
8th April, 2020

IPDI CONDEMNS KILLING OF DANZU MICHAEL IN BENET BY NIGERIAN MILITARY, WANTS THE PERPETRATORS BROUGHT TO JUSTICE

It is sad that the Military whose primary duty is to protect lives and properties is now resorted to taken innocent lives indescriminately with slightes or without provocation. This clearly shows that Nigerian military has been infiltrated by the deadly Boko Haram sect that is bent to eliminate every southerner and Christians in the country.

We got a distress call from family members of the deceased and were briefed on the Military killing of DANZU  MICHAEL, an Ijaw youth in Benet area in Delta State on the 8th April, 2020. The said youth specialized on fishing and fetching of firewood. In the morning of April 8, 2020 the deceased was coming from fishing expedition when he was accosted and shot dead.

The Military were patrolling the area in that morning and took him for oil bunker and shot him immediately without any provocation or confrontation. We are dismay on what Nigerian soldiers are turning to.

Assuming but not conceding, if the late DANZU Michael was a Bunker ,does that form a ground to exterminate him. These Military barbaric Killings continues because our leaders failed to speak out and condemn it.

We are not at war with Nigerian government to have been killed in daily basis. It is sad that Nigerian military does not has value for lives and decided to kill wilfully at every point in time.

The military brutality displayed in South South if it was exercised in Sambisa forest, by now the issue of Boko Haram would have been a thing of the past.

Nigerian military is unprofessional and good at attacking soft targets. The Nigerian Military is now known for being indisciplined. No respect for human right. It is better to live with animals in the forest to have lived with Nigerian military.

It is our candid call that the CO of 3battallion, WARRI, Delta State and the chief of army staff should swing into action and investigate the circumstances surrounding the unlawful and barbaric Killing of Mr. DANZU Michael in 3days, in a view of bringing to book the killer Military officers to avoid legal action.

Amb. Mulade Charges Federal Govt To Embark On Citizens Door-To-Door Nation wide Virus Test, Drums Up Support For The Fight Against COVID-19

Warri______ A traditional Chief in Delta State, Comrade (Chief) Mulade Sheriff, the Ibe-Soremowei of ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, has called on Nigerians to obey the sit-at-home order of the Federal and State Governments aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Chief Mulade, who is the National Coordinator of a renowned peace, human rights and sustainable environment advocating NGO, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, made the call at a press briefing cum food distribution exercise on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, in Warri, Delta State.

It is worthy of note that the Center embarked on the distribution of food stuffs, hand sanitizers and buckets amongst others, to compliment Government's efforts at all levels.

Worried over the rise in COVID-19 cases to 254 in the country as reported by NCDC on Wednesday, Chief Mulade said the only way to combat the spread was to adhere strictly to the proactive measures of the Federal Government, the National Assembly and the State Govts by sitting at home during the lockdown and by obeying the rules and guidelines of the Health Ministries and the NCDC.

While commending President Buhari and his team for their roles so far, the NGO Coordinator said since COVID-19 has no cure for now, the only sure way to contain the spread of the virus was the lockdown directive by the President and the State Governors. Chief Mulade, an Ambassador of Peace, advised Nigerians to obey all the directives and meticulously follow the instructions of various health agencies for a win-win situation.

Comparing the statistics of COVID-19 cases of other countries with that of Nigeria, the CEPEJ boss commended the Federal Government and the NCDC for their efforts at flattening the spread curve of the deadly virus in Nigeria, and commended all Nigerians for complying with the Government lockdown order, despite the usual communal life among them.

He enjoined Nigerians to appreciate the Federal Government for the distribution of test kits, drugs, food, amongst others to hospitals and isolation centres across the Federation. He urged Nigerians to maintain personal and environmental hygiene by washing their hands regularly with soap and running water, cleaning frequently used items and surfaces, using alcohol based sanitizers, wearing of face masks and hand gloves, and practising social distancing, amongst others, to curb the killer virus COVID-19 from spreading in the country.

He appealed to wealthy Nigerians to assist by providing medical facilities and drugs to hospitals, isolation centres, community health centers, and food stuffs to the less privileged as palliatives to cushion the economic effects of the lockdown on the people.

He suggested that at the expiration of the first phase of the lockdown, the Federal Government, the leadership of the National Assembly, State Governors and other relevant authorities should, as a matter of urgent of public importance, re-strategize and adopt proactive steps to cushion the suffering of Nigerians and other nationals, and then embark on one full week nationwide lockdown to carry out a thorough door-to-door COVID-19 test on everyone during the lockdown period, so as to ascertain the actual number of cases in the country for immediate medical attention, in order to eradicate the deadly global pandemic from Nigeria and save more lives.

He said, if the Federal Government and Ministry of Health could carry out nationwide door-to-door vaccination of children to prevent them from polio and other diseases, then it is also possible to do same with this more deadly COVID-19 virus.

IPDI DEBUNKS ITSEKIRI CLAIM OF IJAW ARROGATING N- DELTA BENEFITS TO ITSELF, SAYS ITSEKIRI LACKS POWER TO DEMAND FOR AMNESTY COORDINATOR

Press Statement

7th April, 2020

IPDI DEBUNKS ITSEKIRI CLAIM OF IJAW ARROGATING N- DELTA BENEFITS TO ITSELF, SAYS ITSEKIRI LACKS POWER TO DEMAND FOR AMNESTY COORDINATOR

Our attention has been drawn to an unfounded, mischievous and unguided open letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, blackmailing and backstabbing Ijaw nation while demanding for an Itsekiri son to be appointed as the next PAP coordinator.
The authors of the said kindergarten open letter, the purported Movement for the Protection of Iwere Homeland, Development and History (MPIHDH), and a factional and insignificant Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) adduced that Ijaw nation arrogates every benefit in Niger Delta to itself, and went further to incite other ethnic groups in the region against Ijaw nation as an attempt to discredit the hard earned reputation of Ijaw nation.

The said letter was signed by some jobless Itsekiri youths whose trade mark is blackmailing Ijaw for cheap recognition and minimal favours.
We wouldn't have join issues with the said miserable mischief makers, but silent as well means consent, hence we decided to straighten the record.

It is only an insane person will say Ijaw is arrogating everything in Niger Delta to itself. Those who are grounded in history will agree that it is Itsekiri that is arrogating everything to themselves. It is appalling that Itsekiri who doesn't have a complete local government area is pairing shoulders with almighty Ijaw nation.

Itsekiri should not hurry to forget how it used to arrogated Ijaw and Uhrobo lands and other general benefits to itself in Delta State which brought about WARRI crisis in late 90s till early 2000. Except an insane,  every one knows that the presidential Amnesty programme is not meant for every Tom, Dick, and Harry but it has a targeted persons. It was meant for arm agitators, and at the time of the declaration of the programme, it was only the Ijaws that were into arm agitation with the Federal Government.

The programme was designed to benefit only the Ijaw arm agitators and not to benefit the number of ethnic groups in Niger Delta region. Ijaws died and their Communities in Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo and Ondo were invaded and burnt down in the struggle for resource control and self-determination which birthed the presidential amnesty programme.

The Ijaws were tagged as militants, criminals, oil thieves and seapirates. Itsekiris were the first persons we extend hand of fellowship to, but it rejected it. They responded that the Itsekiris were not militants and oil thieves. Same benevolent was extended to the Uhrobos and they embraced it.
The Itsekiri who called Ijaw agitators criminals and earlier back down the hand of fellowship, later protested and that they were marginalised in the programme, and seeks to be considered in the programme. The then coordinator of the programme, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, out of benevolent offered them about Five hundred slots. Itsekiri should have been grateful to Ijaw nation and not to write Concocted stories against Ijaw nation.

It is our candid advice that Itsekiri should stop the unfounded and mischievous agitation as it is provocative and inimical. As far as Ijaw is concerned, Itsekiri does not merit the office of the coordinator of the presidential Amnesty programme but if they will be remorse and be grateful we may consider them for some other administrative positions since they are our historical children.

Suffix to say, Ijaw is the largest ethnic nationality in Niger Delta region, and we are the highest producers of oil and gas in Nigeria Federation.
It may interest you to know that Ijaws are not only in 24 local governments in Niger Delta but in over 30 local governments and about 12 states in the Federation. Ijaw homogeneous states are; Delta, Edo, Ondo, Bayelsa, Ogun, Osun, Lagos, Rivers , Akwa-Ibom, Cross River etc.

However, we want to urge the public to disregard every concocted lies peddled by the purported open letter. It was not true that Ijaw arrogates every thing to itself in Niger Delta. Ijaws are the most peaceful and benevolent in the region.

Therefore, we want to charge President Muhammadu Buhari not to be deceived by the concocted lies of the purported Itsekiri groups. He should disregard their blackmail and mouthmail. They are interested in fermenting fresh trouble in the region. We want them to be called to order for the interest of peace because their new twists and turns are capable of threatening the existing peace in the region.

Signed

Comrade Ozobo Austin,
national president

Mayor Timi Ogobiri,
 National acting Spokesman

Comrade Emma Keneware,
Acting Secretary.

Coronavirus: Princewill Highlights Fears About Lockdown In Delta, Expresses Disappointment On Security Agents Over Loose Border Duty

Coronavirus: Princewill Highlights Fears About Lockdown In Delta, Expresses Disappointment On Security Agents Over Loose Border Duty

Warri_____ A Niger Delta Human Rights Activist, Amb. Comr. Binebai Yerin Princewill has expressed his fears about the 14 days stay at home lockdown in Delta State.

The young activist noted that while Deltans are observing the lockdown in each parts  of the state, he has feelers from the borders that through some crucket means, people are still entering the state from the supposedly closed borders while security agencies watch in akinbo.

He noted that if people could be entering the state massively through the clossed borders "It means that the very essence of the 14 days lockdown has been defeated." He said.

Amb. Binebai wondered what become of the state when those assigned with the border closure seem to have compromised by allowing people to enter into the state without enforcing the order.

Princewill alleged  that closure of the Delta State borders is more important than anything else in the  state, he asked "What if those who had sneaked into our state through the borders before the very eyes of security agents have sneaked in with the virus, who will be held responsible for it?. Yerin wondered.

"We must be very careful as a people, only one mistake may just spoil everything both the government and citizens are doing to ensure that Delta State does not record any case of the virus until the disease will fade away.

"It is my prayer that God should arrest and kill this dreadful disease across the country before the expiration of the lockdown all over the country" . Yerin stated.

He regreted that it was the security agents that claimed champion in Warri while enforcing the stay at home order which resulted to the death of a promising Niger Deltan, Mr. Joseph Pessu.

Security agencies and even the government must not be looking at one way only without looking at other more important areas like the total closure of the borders.

Using Bayelsa State as a reference point, Princewill said it is only borders that are closed as citizens goes about their normal duties except large gatherings.

"My opinion is that the security agents must claim champion in our borders by not allowing any pin to enter into our state through the borders".

However, Binebai maintained that he is totally in agreement with the 14 days stay at home lockdown in the state just as he enjoined Deltans to continue to obey the directives of the government.

Speaking further, he had called on the Delta State Government to live up to the expectations of Deltans by rolling out  palliative measures to cushion the effect as it is not easy for the masses to cope at this period without the government doing anything about it.

"It is not enough to only give directives to the mssses, the Government must take responsibility in providing for citizens of our state, this is the right time to meet the people at their needs.

"It is very strange that up till now, the Delta State Government has not even shared food items nor preventive materials to citizens of the state, this is really bad ". Princewill asserted.

Speaking in the oil-rich city of Warri, Delta State on tuesday, the Activist said that the State Food Bank was a welcome development, pointing out that many people are passing through untold hardship as a result of the Coronavirus across the globe.

Comrade Mulade who is the Ibe-Serimowei of the great Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West LGA of Delta State, once again appealed to Governor Okowa to personally monitor the distribution of the food items so as to reach the vulnerable and poor household devoid of Party interest and politics, adding that; "We are currently faced with human hunger not political campaigns or rallies, therefore all hands must be on deck to overcome this global health pandemic irrespective of party affiliations because lives are more important to be saved now".

Comrade Mulade who is the National Coordinator of the foremost Non Governmental Organisation, Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ in Delta State implored all Deltans to give maximum support and cooperation to the committee being chaired by Governor Okowa to enable them deliver on its mandate to Deltans without party interest.

He also said that; "Our State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa at this trying time must be encouraged, supported in prayers for us to collectively overcome this dangerous health pandemic which is not a respecter of person or personality.

"I want to strongly re-emphasise my appeal to Governor Okowa to kindly consider and fully involve our Traditional Institutions (Royal Fathers) who are more closer and have direct affection to their people than political structures. This strategy I strongly believe to the best of my knowledge will help and give credibility to the Government in the process of reaching out to its grassroot citizens and the receiving communities can monitor and collect their legitimate share, if not political office holders will hijack and resell the items back to the suffering Deltans and other Nigerians",  he added.
