Don't Take Nature For Granted, Oromoni Urges Deltans, As The World Marks 2020 Environment Day

Don't Take Nature For Granted, Oromoni Urges Deltans, As The World Marks 2020 Environment Day

State Taskforce Chairman on Environment Honourable Sylvester Oromoni has said that Air pollution is increasing day by day and it seems complex to control it but nothing is impossible we should come together to combat it. And for this, it is necessary to understand different types of pollution, how it affects our health and environment will help us to steps towards improving the air around us.

We can't stop breathing but we can do something to improve the quality of air that we breathe. Around 92 per cent of the people worldwide do not breathe clean air.

The theme for the World Environment Day 2018 was“Beat Plastic Pollution”.

We know that it is not possible to reuse plastic, they are non-biodegradable. So, it’s better not to use it. Plastics consist of several chemicals which are toxic or disrupt hormones. Plastics can also serve as a magnet for other pollutants, including dioxins, metals and pesticides.

Therefore, it is necessary to call the people from all over the world to come and combat single-use plastic pollution which harms our ecosystem and consequently us.

World Environment Day 2020: It is observed on 5 June to raise awareness about protecting the environment and to remind people not to take nature granted. Let us read in detail about World Environment Day, 2020 theme, history and significance.

World Environment Day 2020: It is one of the biggest events celebrated in the world every year.  It has been seen that during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the environment gets benefitted slightly, the sky becomes clear, the air is less polluted, etc.

World Environment Day is celebrated since 1974. It is the "People's Day" to do something to take care of the earth and the environment. It is really important to know ways to protect the environment.

For healthy living, the environment plays an important role. It provides us with air, food, etc. It is correctly said that ' the difference between animals and humans is that animals change themselves for the environment, but humans change the environment for themselves'. The environment is just like our neighbourhood, its surrounding conditions influence us and modify growth and development.

World Environment Day is promoted by the United Nation and for 2020 Colombia will host the World Environment Day. In 2019, China was the host country. World Environment Day is also known as Environment Day, Eco Day. This day is celebrated to spread awareness about the environment and its effects on the daily life of the people.

The environment is the surrounding or conditions in which a person, animal or plant lives or operates. It is necessary to understand the importance of environment and lots of activities are done by the people to preserve and conserve the unique and life nurturing nature. People are more reluctant today to save the environment for the future and then only it will be possible for us to focus on the developmental activities in the country.

According to the UN, it is a concern that is both urgent and existential. Biodiversity supports all life on land and below water or we can say it is the foundation that supports all this. Every aspect of human health is affected by it. It provides clean air, water, food, and is a source of medicines, etc. Human actions like deforestation, encroachment on wildlife habitats, intensified agriculture, and acceleration of global climate change, have disturbed nature and pushed it beyond its limit. According to the UN, it would take 1.6 Earths to meet the demands that humans make of nature every year. If this will continue,  it poses a huge biodiversity loss that will have severe implications for humanity as a result of the loss of food and health systems.

The theme for the World Environment Day 2019 was "Air Pollution".

World Environment Day: History

Since 1974, World Environment Day has been started celebrating as an annual event on every 5 June to raise the importance of the healthy and green environment in the human lives, to solve the issues of the environment by implementing some positive environmental actions by government, organisations and individual as a whole.

There was a turning point in the year 1972, the development of international environmental politics that is the first major conference on the issues of environment was convened under the United Nations from 5-16 June in Stockholm. It was also known as the Conference on the Human Environment or the Stockholm Conference. Its aim was to commonly look into the challenge of preserving and enhancing the human environment. Then, on 15 December in the same year, the General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 5 June as World Environment Day. Further, another resolution was adopted by the General Assembly on 15 December that led to the creation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). First time World Environment Day was celebrated in 1974 with the slogan "Only one Earth.

World Environment Day: Evang. Oromoni Charges Deltans To Ensure Cleanliness Of Their Environment At All Times

World Environment Day: Evang. Oromoni Charges Deltans To Ensure Cleanliness Of Their Environment At All Times

Joy Alamu

Warri_____ The State Taskforce on Environment Chairman, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni has called for concerted efforts by all in the State to ensure a cleaner environment at all times.

Speaking on the backdrop of the World Environment Day celebration today June 5,  Hon. Oromoni said a cleaner Delta State is achievable if everyone does his or her bit with the needed sense of commitment.

He decried the situation where people still practise open defecation, indiscriminate waste disposal, construction of structures across natural water ways as well as oil  pollution that has degraded the land.

Hon. Oromoni said the theme for this year's World Environment Day Celebration is very apt as it commands everyone to think and take action in ways that will engineer a positive change in the environment for all to see and enjoy.

His words, 'the theme for the World Environment Day Celebration this year is The Mighty Earth, For Nature calls us to action and remember that what we do in one place is likely to affect others somewhere else'.

He added that, it was important that everyone is careful about their action knowing that such actions have the potentials of bringing pains or happiness to others as well as to nature itself.

Hon. Oromoni explained that in doing certain things particularly in urban settlements of Delta State people should take responsibility for their actions against the environment as nature has the capacity to fight back as seen in flooding, air pollution and various diseases these days including the much dreaded Corona- virus pandemic.

Hear him, the rise in the menace of malaria is as a result of increasing incidence of mosquitoes growing unhindered. All we need to do is clean our gutters and remove receptacles that aid their breeding,' he said.

As this year's World Environment Day is marked , the State Taskforce Chairman on  Environment appealed to the people of the State  to join hands in making the State one of the cleanest in line with the stronger Delta Agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Signed:
Honorable Sylvester Oromoni
Chairman Delta State Taskforce on Environment

Aworowo: The King - Drummer Dances Home (A Tribute) By Dr. Ahmed. E. Saibakumo

Aworowo: The King - Drummer Dances Home (A Tribute) By Dr. Ahmed. E. Saibakumo

Yes, we are proud Ayakoromo people with undiluted excellent Mein Culture. This weekend (Friday 5th June, 2020), we are going to our dear home to give a befitting passage rite to one of our heroes, MR. OYABEBEFA AKARAMA (ALIAS AWOROMO). Never in the history of Western Ijaw or Ijaw land we had gotten a charming drummer who was not a trained percussionist but was naturally endowed and gifted with the art of all sorts of traditional drumming including Akwaye, Opu-ozi, Amgbara drums etc freely with his stylish acoustic displays at masquerade festivals, marriages and burials during social functions.

Yes, he was simply like Akin, the itinerant “The Drummer Boy” of the 1960s by “Cyprian Akwensi” who transversed lands for the entertainment and pleasure of mankind yet denied of true happiness at the end. We agree you never died an accomplished man. We, the younger generation relish your acrobatic displays of your drumsticks with skill and agility. Sometimes, you threw your drumsticks to the air, dive them back, communicate with the dancers and the masquerades with mystic and prophetic exaltation as KING ROBERT EBIZIMOR, the greatest musical messenger ever in Ijaw land who held his dancers with awesome obsession in his lifetime with his overwhelming musical tone and was admired by the young and the old. You were the greatest drummer ever in Ijaw land. Unbelievably, sometimes you played your drums with one hand. At rare occasions you backed your drums but still maintained the consistency and communicative vibrancy with your hands behind you for the dancers. You were more of an entertainer than the dancers.

The last time I saw you was at Ayakoromo in 2017, I was so depressed. You looked famished and frail in health. You told me you had relocated to your maternal home, Obotebe. I was simply frustrated and helpless. I assure you today, your legacy will remain in Ayakoromo. Adieu, my master-drummer, your name is written in gold in Ijaw land. Generations shall hear about you.

Today, you have joined your ancestors like Pa Naseimokumo Abalewe (“ALIAS OZIBRAGBOLO”) of Ebeingbene/Oforukpo in Ayakoromo Federated Community. Pa Naseimokumo Abalewe, a drummer-maestro whose absence at Ayakoromo Annual Festival makes it incomplete. He had no choice than to relocate to Ayakoromo main town till the end of the festival. King-Drummer Aworowo, we are proud you in Ayakoromo Federated Community, Ngbilebiri-Mein Kingdom, Western Ijaw and the Ijaw Nation. Adieu Aworowo.
This is our story,

GOODBYE AWOROWO THE-GREAT, YOU MADE US PROUD.

The Ijaws said Tidi had no justification to appoint an Itsekiri man as Market master in Ogbe-Ijoh Market and that he should be mindful of the drum of war he was beaten.

Ijaws also demanded for an appointment of Ijaw as Market master in Kpessu and Gbangue Markets or else he would have Ijaw to contend with in the shortest time.

The Ijaw stakeholders said the Itsekiri conspiracy was the reason for the abandonment of the Ogbe-Ijoh iron Market and that the appointment of Itsekiri in the market is inimical and were meant to masterminds and further claim ownership of the market.

However, the Ijaws had called on His Excellency Ifeanyi Okowa to prevailed on Michael Tidi ,the chairman of Warri South Local government council in immediate effect to avoid another Warri crisis which may endanger innocent residents.

Okowa 5Years In Office: Ibori Built Bridges Across Delta State Within 4Years To Open Up Riverine Areas, How Many Bridges Have You Build In 5Yrs, Ijaw Group Ask Gov. Okowa

Okowa 5Years In Office: Ibori Built Bridges Across Delta State Within 4Years To Open Up Riverine Areas, How Many Bridges Have You Build In 5Yrs, Ijaw Group Ask Gov. Okowa

Francis Tayor

Warri_____ An ljaw Social Political pressure group under the auspices of Concerned Citizens For lzon-ebe Development, CCFID has questioned the governor of Delta State, Dr Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for failing Deltans woefully, especially the ljaws at five years in office without commissioning any bridge to open up and fast track road infrastructural development to riverine communities across the state.

The group in a Press Statement released on Sunday 31st May, 2020 and signed by its President, Comrade. Oyinbi Onduku stated that, after critical assessment of governor Okowa's five years in office, we expressed disappointment on Delta State government for not commissioning any tangible project in riverine communities, stressing that the five years of governor Okowa is a total failure as far as Delta ljaws are concerned.

According to Onduku, said:  " lf former governor of Delta State, Chief. James Onanefe Ibori can built bridges, roads, schools, Health Care Centres, Stadiums, Electricity etc. across the nooks and crannies of Delta State within four years in office, what stops Okowa, a medical doctor by profession and the self acclaimed 'EKWEME 1' of Africa  from doing the same or even do more than the former his boss. As far as Delta riverine ljaws are concerned, Gov. Okowa has failed us woefully at his five years in office when compared to his predecessors.

Lamenting further, " Onduku noted that Gov. Okowa celebrating five years in office without commissioning Ayakoromo bridge in Burutu is a total failure. Okowa celebrating five years in office without commissioning any primary Healthcare centers, schools, electricity, motorable road networks, stadium etc. in riverine communities is a big disappointment to a medical doctor as governor."

Onduku regretted that despite Gov. Okowa's wealth of experience as a medical doctor, former Council Chairman, SSG, Commissioner for Health and now a serving governor for five years, he has not been able to transform Delta state from where his predecessors stopped.

" Okowa should bury his face in shame for celebrating five years in office as a governor of Anioma and Agbor. Spread your tentacle of real infrastructural development to ljaw riverine communities whose bloc votes paved way for your victory at the polls.

Until Gov. Okowa commission the only Ayakoromo bridge project under his administration that will open up road networks as well as other infrastructural development to riverine communities in Burutu, Ughelli South and Bomadi LGA across Delta, he has done nothing as far as Delta ljaws are concerned, the group stated."
