He therefore, on behalf of riverine communities in Delta State, appealed to, and requested Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to transfer the School of Marine Technology, Burutu, to the Ministry of Higher Education so that academic experts could run and manage it towards achieving set goals.

Warri Comes Alive As Taskforce Chairman, Oromoni Begins Reclamation of City's Lost Beauty

Warri Comes Alive As Taskforce Chairman, Oromoni Begins Reclamation of City's Lost Beauty

The ancient city of Warri, known for its beauty and viability in terms of commerce and tourism is set to come alive again, just as the Chairman, Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Mr. Sylvester Oromoni has concluded plans for the reclamation of the city from dirts and illegal activities.

Mr. Oromoni while on an on the spot inspection of Warri/Sapele Road, expressed satisfaction with traders who had complied with instructions to keep the environment hygienically clean for living and business.

It could be recalled that all the stores along Warri/Sapele road that were sited on water channels were recently demolished and standards set for the traders to maintain the new look of the Environment.

Oromoni during the inspection had thanked the shop owners who in the spirit of Stronger Delta anchored on healthy Environment for keeping to Government's order and regulations.

He equally appealed to others who are still recalcitrant on Government's directive, to obey for a better, safe and conducive environment to do business.

According to the hardworking Chairman, "The era of illegal structures on major roads and streets will no longer be tolerated. We are poised to implement the policies and programmes of government, aimed at making our environment healthy, friendly and safe for living and for doing business", Oromoni stressed.

In addition, Mr. Oromoni explained that "The deplorable conditions of cities around the world have often necessitated urban renewal, hence the effort of Delta State Government to making the policy of proper and cleaner environment a reality.

"However, given the intricacies of the processes involved and the dynamic nature of the environment, evaluation of these renewal efforts is imperative to provide required insights to guide future endeavours.

"Our actions usually affect those in government and individuals of all ages and abilities, being part of our important roles to play as stewards of the Government on Environment.

"This is because our vision in the Taskforce on Environment is to build vibrant communities mostly into urban cities. Urban areas are the engines of economic growth as well as locations for complex network of activities that are essential to basic human functioning in terms of living and working.

"However, in addition to gaining nicer living spaces, beautification may cause residents to have increased sense of pride in where they live. While there is no quick fix to the many problems that are present in urban areas, a person who lives in a clean environment may be more optimistic about the future.

"In this circumstance, Delta State Government took interest in urban beautification in order to transform the cities into proper environmental shapes. This policy however, has resulted in the demolition of illegal structures along selected roads, streets and water channels", Oromoni affirmed.

Meanwhile, the effort of the Taskforce is a continual process, especially with regards to demolition of unwanted structures in areas not designated for such including waterways.
