NDNAF Opposes Planned Protest Against NDDC S.A. Youth Dango, Appeals for Peace and Dialogue 

The Niger Delta Nonviolence Agitators Forum (NDNAF) under the leadership of foremost Activist Comrade Wisdom Oniekpar Ikuli has opposed and also condemned in very strong term the planned protest against Mr. Matthew Asime Dango, the Special Adviser to the MD of NDDC on Youth Affairs. 

Comrade Ikuli advised and also appealed that Niger Deltans should learn to resolve issues internally instead of running to the Social Media and other platforms to cast aspersions against their people especially those in public offices. 

While the leadership of NDNAF acknowledges the genuine complaints and grievances of elders and critical stakeholders on different areas and issues, it believes that there are better ways of resolving all contentious issues without washing their dirty linens in the public. 

Speaking further, Comrade Ikuli frowns at the endless hasty calls for sack of Niger Deltans in public offices. He said there are other Nigerians who are occupying different offices and it is difficult to see their people agitating for their sack as against the trend and daily occurrence in the Niger Delta where such calls has become a tradition. 

They concluded by appealing for synergy between public office holders and the masses  and electorate whom they describe as the employers who engage and employ both elected and political appointees through their votes, thus deserve respect and recognition.

Warri _____ A Niger-Delta activist, and National Coordinator, Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Comrade Chief Sheriff Mulade, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, inaugurated a 10-man local organising committee, LOC, for the Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Football Tournament created to promote peaceful co-existence among ethnic groups in Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts of the State. 

The tournament is scheduled to commence on November 16, 2024, at Ode Itsekiri, and it will serve as one of the activities to mark the United Nations International Day of Tolerance, on Dec. 7, 2024.

Chief Mulade, a Niger Delta Peace advocate, in his speech at the ceremony held at the CEPEJ’s Africa for Peace Centre in Ugolo-Okpe near Osubi, noted that this year’s event, the fourth in the series, would have Hon. Kenneth Nwaomucha, as Chairman of the 10-man organizing committee.

He disclosed that the competition had been expanded to accommodate more ethnic groups unlike in the past when it involved only Itsekiri and Ijaw ethnic groups.

Comrade Mulade who is the Chief Executive Officer of CEPEJ, said this year’s football competition would now accommodate Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko and Urhobo ethnic nationalities to foster peaceful coexistence among the people of Delta Central and South Areas of the State. 

According to him, “this programme is our contribution to promote peaceful coexistence among the people of Delta State. We expanded it to accommodate Isoko and Urhobo people to create a peaceful environment for the government to develop all parts of the State.”

He disclosed that the Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, would kickoff the expanded Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup football tournament at Ode-Itsekiri as the Royal Father of the Day. He added that the star prize winner would smile home with N2m, runners up with N1.5m, third place winner with N1m, and the fourth would bag N500,000, totalling N5m.

Responding on behalf of the Committee, the Chairman of Delta State Sports Association, Hon. Kenneth Nwaomucha commended Mulade for his initiatives and efforts in the previous years, and urged members of the committee to put in their best towards the success of the unity football tournament.

CEPEJ's Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Godwin Orhadahwe, urged the media to give wider publicity to the tournament, and mobilize stakeholders to the event through in-depth analysis and advocacy, towards achieving the purpose for which it was instituted.

Abuja_____ The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Police, threatening a nationwide strike if the threat to arrest its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero is actualised.

This decision was made during an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the NLC headquarters on Tuesday following the police invitation to Ajaero and the threat of arrest should he fail to show up.

The meeting was convened to address the police invitation to Ajaero over allegations of terrorism financing.

The NEC resolved that Ajaero would honor the police invitation, but requested an extension of time through their legal adviser.

Deputy President Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani addressed the nation’s workforce, stating:

“We will cooperate with the police, but if our President is arrested, all workers will down tools immediately. Remain on standby for further directives from our leadership.”

The NLC asserts its commitment to peaceful resolution while standing firm against any perceived intimidation.

The threat of arrest and response from the NLC follows the shocking conviviialtiy that saw Ajaero in warm discussions with President Bola Tinubu during the negotiations for the new National Minimum Wage.

It would be recalled that Ajaero was despite his initial hardline posture commended by some for moderating the expectations of the working class in accepting the N70,000 minimum wage despite earlier assertions that the NLC would not accept a five figure minimum wage and hence the surprise about the threat of his arrest.

BOMADI____ The executive chairman, Bomadi local government area of Delta State, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, has secured and released the purportedly missing indigene of Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area, who was held hostage by the people of Okoloba community. 

In the early hours of Thursday, the news of the detention of an indigene of Okuama by the people of Okoloba community broke out, causing panic and speculations in the creeks of possible renewal of hostilities.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, Chancel Bomadi Sunday, it disclosed that the honourable chairman of council would leave no stone unturned on issues of development and security of lives and property in the council area.

It stated that Hon. Dagidi swiftly swung into action on getting wind of the news of an indigene of Okuama being held hostage by neighbouring Okoloba community.

It also noted that the Dagidi-led council administration is poised to maintaining the prevailing peace, who earlier called on all security apparatuses to be on the alert to arrest the situation, as well as calling the leadership of Okoloba community not to harm the hostage.

The statement quoted the council chairman in a press briefing at the Bomadi Police Division: "This morning, while I was preparing to go to Asaba to attend an official function, I received a call from the Department of State Security, DSS and the Bomadi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, intimating me of the news of an Okuama indigene being held hostage by the people of neighbouring Okoloba community.

"When I heard that, I immediately abandoned my official assignment and called the chairman of Okoloba community not to harm the hostage, telling him that I'm coming to the community. After that, I reached out to my counterpart, the chairman of Ughelli South local government to know if he is aware of the situation, as well as telling him to come over to Bomadi for us to go to Okoloba.

"But, on arrival at Bomadi, I met the Okoloba community chairman and the hostage at the Bomadi Police Division because of my earlier reaction on phone. 

"Already, every necessary arrangement has been made with the Bomadi DPO to move the hostage to the Utujeremi Police Division for his onward movement to Okuama community.

"I want to thank the proactive actions of the Bomadi Police Division and the DSS for their swift responses on issues of security in the local government area. 

"I emphatically assure everybody that my administration has come to sustain the peace that Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori has zealously worked, and that there will be no more crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities".

However, the chairman of Okoloba community, Mr Clement Koki, who narrated the incident, said: "This morning around 6 am, we saw this man at our backyard and we asked him what brought him to our community, but he could not explain himself.

"So, they apprehended him and brought him to the community. We decided that we should bring him to Bomadi and hand him over to the police".

The hostage, who gave his name as Godwin Friday, upon questioning said that he was actually going to work but strayed beyond the boundary between the two communities.

He said: "I am an indigene of Okuama and Igbudu. This morning, I was going to do my wood work from Okuama at around 6.30 am when some boys, about four of them, accosted me and beat me. 

"I was born and brought up in Warri and I don't actually know the boundaries between Okuama and Okoloba, and the place we work is close to that area. They took me to their community and handed me over to the community chairman".

However, the DPO, Bomadi Police Division, Adie P. Bissong, assured that he and his men would take the hostage to his counterpart in Ughelli South local government area.

It has come to my attention that a Vanguard publication dated August 16th, 2024 attributed to Chiefs Matthew Tiemo and Bainmene Powei regarding the late Amb Meshack Ubabiri, whose tragic death occurred on January 14, 2024 has been made. Following my proclamation as the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom on October 17, 2022, late Meshack Ubabiri and his supporters orchestrated my abduction from the royal palace. Subsequently, they installed Meshack as the Agadagba of Egbema with the collaboration of a few individuals and the former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dcn Kingsley Otuaro. This shameful falsehood desecrated our traditions and ridiculed our kingmakers, compelling us to seek legal redress in the court of law.

Tragically, Meshack Ubabiri has met his untimely death, marking the sixth strange death in our kingdom since I was unjustly denied a peaceful ascension to our revered throne.  Nobody has ever died in front of our diety in the history of our kingdom. It is sad enough that late Ubabiri made history in this regard. It is even more pathetic that his handlers continue to peddle lies and falsehoods to give a good impression of his false claim to the throne. While extending condolences to his family and others affected, it is imperative to clarify that the legitimate kingmakers never appointed Meshack Ubabiri, and he shall not be recognised in life or death as the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom.

I have received information that a group of individuals led by Chief Matthew Tiemo is secretly planning to disrupt the current legal process by trying to establish a regency council to appoint someone else as king, regardless of the ongoing court proceedings. For the records, Chief Mathew Tiemo is not a chief of Egbema Kingdom. He has no traditional role to play with respect to the installation of a King in Egbema. Nobody or a group of persons can legitimately set up a regency council or install another king while the legal proceedings challenging the false claims of late Meshack Ubabriri and his sponsors are pending before a competent court of law. 

Any attempt to continue in this falsehood planted by his sponsors will result in more tragedy in our kingdom. I am, therefore, calling on all men and women of goodwill from our dear kingdom to resist this falsehood and embrace truth and justice for the growth and development of our kingdom. Your support is crucial in this fight for justice. Anybody who offers himself in the manner that the late Meshack Ubabiri did should know that he is putting himself out for an adventure that is established on falsehood and injustice. Kings are not installed on faulty and false foundations.  Utolu ruling house, like his brothers, will have a peaceful and lengthy rein and make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of our dear kingdom. We must all embrace the truth for the prosperity of our kingdom.

I urge the indigenes of Egbema and the general public to therefore disregard the false claims of Meshack Ubabiri's ascension to our ancient traditional stool. We are persisting in pursuing justice through the ongoing legal proceedings, which are crucial in rectifying the injustices perpetrated against the good people of Egbema Kingdom. Our determination to see this through is unwavering, and we call upon the government of Delta State to uphold the integrity of the legal process and disregard any plan to set up a regency council to override the current legal proceedings.

May we find the strength, courage and grace to uphold justice and restore the honour of Egbema Kingdom, and may this ordeal lead us to a brighter future.

For the first time since October 2023 when the political crisis rocking Rivers State started, an advisory organ of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Board of Trustees (BoT) has paid an official visit to the state governor, Siminialayi Fubara and his camp to hear their side of the story.

The BoT of the PDP led by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who said they were on a fact-finding mission, also promised to visit the rival camp insisting that “there are always two sides to a coin.”

The BoT members held discussions with the governor and key members of his political camp in the state PDP at the Rivers Government House Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Wabara, in his remarks, said they visited as the conscience of the party in search of peace and unity following what he described as the ungodly tension in recent times that had threatened the PDP in Rivers.

Wabara, a former Senate President, said the PDP was scared of losing Rivers State and vowed that the BoT would seek constitutional resolution to the crisis.

He claimed that if the PDP truly lost Rivers, the future of Nigeria would be lost with no abiding hope.

Wabara acknowledged that Fubara had demonstrated enormous care for the PDP, saying the governor had been patient with the inactivity of the party leadership amidst the crisis.

He said: “We, the Board of Trustees of this party, came here in search of peace and unity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We have been reading all kinds of things on the pages of newspapers and the Internet, for those who are Internet savvy. But, we, as elders of this great party decided to come to hear from the horse’s mouth.

“First of all, we want to thank you for still being there because this party should not be allowed to die. And, it is for this very reason that I am thanking you, on behalf of my colleagues, and as you can see, it’s not from one geo-political zone. We are well-represented nationally.

“We were scared Sir, when we heard or read speculations, perceptions or what have you, that the party, if we are not careful, might lose Rivers State. Of course, if we lose Rivers State, Nigeria has lost its future.

“We don’t want what happened in 2015, and 2023 to repeat itself. These men and women you see here are very neutral. But as the conscience of the party, we must go by the rule of law. And anything you do, going by the rule of law, can never be wrong. It may be delayed, but it cannot be wrong.

“I don’t want to describe it. Otherwise, as a Governor, we have former Governors here, I doubt if they would have taken as much as you have. So, on behalf of this party, once again, let me thank you for your resilience, your wisdom, and the fact that you are still in this party.

“And to assure you that the Board of Trustees under my watch and with these serious-minded Nigerians, will deal with the matter as constitutionally allowed”.

Speaking after the meeting, Wabara expressed appreciation to Fubara for allowing them to hear his side of the story, and noted with optimism, that the political crisis in the state would soon be resolved.

He assured that the delegation would meet with the other party in the crisis to also hear from them, as according to him, “there is always two sides to a coin”, adding that it was better late than never.

Wabara reiterated that the PDP under his watch as BoT Chairman, would not allow what happened to PDP in 2015 and 2023 to repeat itself and would not stand helplessly while the largest party in Africa was being destroyed by a few individuals.

He said that based on its findings, the BoT would make its recommendations to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for implementation insisting that the party must be united to win the 2027 elections.

Addressing the BoT members, Fubara in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi, said he was still a member of the PDP and that Rivers was still a PDP-controlled state.

The governor emphasised the importance of clarifying that position to discountenance rumours being peddled in some quarters that he had left the PDP.

Fubara said as was normally expected, he doubted his membership of the PDP at some time but the visitation from the BoT had offered a stronger conviction that he was a member of the PDP family.

He said: “I want to thank the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees. Honestly speaking, if I was having any doubt about my membership first, of this great party, I think today, I have gotten a reconfirmation that I am still, not minding the drama around, a member of this party.

“And, I want to thank you for taking all the trouble to come to Rivers State to see the Governor and the supporters of the party, genuinely. I need to use that word, genuinely, because we, who are here, are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), undiluted.

“For once, I am happy to see the leaders, among whom are some founding fathers of the PDP, like Chief Bode George, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, joining the delegation here to talk about the unity of the party.”

Fubara recalled their courage, sacrifices and foresight when they crafted the Constitution of the PDP and nurtured it to become what people had come to know and greatly benefited from.

The governor said: “It doesn’t matter the number of people who watered it (PDP) and it became what it is. I am happy that today, they are with us here to discuss the issue of Rivers State.

“I want to assure members of our party, genuine members of PDP that are here with us, that this is another hope to show that our decision to stand by the party, still standing by the party, is not a wrong decision”.

Fubara stated that “the visit by the delegation of BoT is for one purpose, to ascertain what is the problem that has caused so much dissatisfaction and tearing down the party; how it started and how it degenerated to what it is today.”

The governor said in such efforts to search out the truth, it was also vital for them to understand how passionately he cherished the importance of information and the need to stay on the path of truth.

Fubara said: “I am very conscious of the importance of information. I know that a lot of information is flying here and there. But, I also know that whatever I have said anywhere, I have still maintained that position.

“What I have said in Abuja is the same thing I say in Port Harcourt. If I have had any encounter with anybody in Lagos, I don’t think my story has changed. So, I strongly believe that when we go into the executive session, I will let the board members who have visited us know or hear my side of the story.

“But, so far, what is important this afternoon is that we are still members of the party, and the owners of the party have visited us.

“So, for those people outside who are carrying all sorts of rumour and propaganda, at least, this visit will put those propaganda to rest, and to tell the world that we are and we remain members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

BOMADI—The suspension and appointment of caretaker bodies for the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Timber Union and others by the executive chairman of Bomadi local government council, Delta State, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, was done after due consultations with the concerned bodies, according to findings.

This was sequel to a post on social media faulting the decision of council over the removal of the former NURTW caretaker chairman, Bomadi local government area, Mr. Godday Awusa, who was appointed by the immediate past executive chairman of council, Hon. William Angadi, over misunderstandings among union members.

Findings revealed that the executive chairman, after due consultations with union leaders, took the decision at a security meeting where NURTW members were invited over their usual leadership tussles that often lead to threats to the peace of their areas of operation.

At the security meeting presided over by the council chairman, all efforts to settle issues proved futile and the union members in attendance opted to do away with both factions, they rejected Mr Awusa over allegations of misconduct, including issuing of threats to colleagues. 

However, attendees, including the various security apparatuses, unanimously adopted their decision and suspended Mr Awusa and the rival faction for peace to reign and for smooth running of the union. Hence, an interim chairman, Mr Tony Yerindideke, was appointed to run its affairs for the main time.

However, according to findings, the executive chairman of council, in order to follow the due process in the appointment of an interim executive to oversee affairs of the union, consulted with the state hierarchy of the NURTW.

He disclosed that the state leadership had said the person representing the branch at the state level was the one qualified to be appointed to overseer the union affairs for a period.

"Coincidentally, the person representing the Bomadi branch at the state level is Mr Tony Yerindideke, who hails from my own community, Kpakiama.

"Not too long ago I saw a post on Facebook criticizing the removal of Mr Awusa and the coming on board of Mr Yerindideke, misinforming the public. I'm for all Bomadians and my mandate is clear, which are development, peace and unity in Bomadi local government area", he said.

Why Mr Tony Yerindideke was appointed

The state chairman of the NURTW, Chief Francis Ariyor, reacting on the issue, said: "Yes, the chairman of council contacted me over the power tussle between the two factions. He told me everything and he decided that the people that were trying to forment trouble must have to be suspended for peace to reign.

"A group wrote a petition to my office in Asaba against Mr Awusa, and the council chairman called me and said those same people were beating the drum of war after returning to Bomadi. That was the same period the nationwide protest was ongoing, and the council chairman was making every effort not to allow the protest degenerate into chaos in his council area. 

"Mr chairman said that, for that reason, he would suspend both parties for peace to reign. He suspended both parties and the State Assistant Secretary of the union, Mr Tony Yerindideke, who is the most senior union officer representing Bomadi local government at the state level, was appointed pending when my executive and I will come down to handle the situation.

"So, the state most senior officer is the one that both of us agreed to man the union pending when we will come over to handle the situation".

The immediate past state chairman of the NURTW, Mr Ifeanyi Obi, also responding to the development at the Bomadi branch, said: "The local government chairman is in order in the removal of the former caretaker chairman, who was appointed by his predecessor. It is not out place to remove a caretaker executive of our union by an incoming local government chairman, especially when there are threats to the peace of the area.

"When such situations arose, the person who is qualified to run affairs of the union on a caretaker basis is the member representing the union at the state level. But, most council chairmen usually appoint people from the local government council to run our unions.

"But in this case, the Bomadi council chairman followed due process by appointing the member representing the union at the state level. So, he is in order, he did the right thing and whoever criticizing his decision, whether a union member or an outsider is doing so for his personal reasons and not for the union".

However, the office of the executive chairman of council has reassured Bomadians that the Hon. Dagidi-led administration is resolute in its decision to work for the development, peace and unity of the council area.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the executive chairman of council, Chancel Bomadi Sunday, it stated that Hon. Dagidi's determination to work for the well-being of Bomadians started even before his campaigns for the council chairmanship election in the state.

The statement reads in part: "It is no more news, the executive chairman of council, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, has made his resolve known from the onset of his campaigns, which is to run an open-minded, all-inclusive government that would move the council area to next level.

"Therefore, Bomadians are urged to ignore those in the business of mischief-making and join hands with the young man to encourage him deliver his agenda of making Bomadi local government area a better place for all".

BOMADI_____ The executive chairman, Bomadi local government area of Delta State, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, has begun the execution of capital projects in fulfillment of his administration's determination to replicate Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori's M.O.R.E. Agenda in the council area.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Chancel Bomadi Sunday, in conjunction with the office of the New Media to the council chairman, quoted Hon. Dagidi as saying that his administration would deliver the needed democracy dividends at the grassroots with available resources.

Hon. Dagidi, who gave the assurance, yesterday, during an inspection tour of ongoing projects executed by his administration, also urged Bomadians to maintain the prevailing peace as well as provide the enabling environment for development to thrive.

However, ongoing projects inspected by the council boss in company of his executive members and senior personnel of the council include the State High Court access road, the High Court building and judges' lodge, renovation of the Local Government Council Pavilion, Local Government Vice Chairman's Residential Building and the Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori Ultra-modern Multi-purpose Event Centre.

Addressing journalists, Hon. Dagidi noted that his administration would create the enabling environment for judges to reside and carry on their judicial responsibilities in Bomadi.

 "This road project was initiated by an individual, a well-meaning Bomadian. When we came on board, we saw the young man's struggling effort and council decided to step in to take over the project. It's a very sensitive project because the court serves Bomadi, Patani and Burutu council areas.

"So, council took over the project and awarded a contract for it. Council also awarded a contract for the construction of a three bedroom duplex for the high court judges, as they have already abandoned the place because of the level of dilapidation of the court premises. 

"We are assuring the judges that we'll provide the enabling environment for them to carry on their judicial responsibilities right here.

"Exactly thirty days in office, we embarked on our avowed business of project execution in the council area, and we will continue to do so in consultations with leaders and the electorate on issues of development to achieve optimum goals.

"All dilapidated structures begging for renovation in the council secretariat will receive the needed attention, and our grassroots development agenda will be passionately pursued.

"Without mincing words, I can assure and reassure Bomadians that my administration will deliver on our campaign promises, I will replicate Gov. Oborevwori's M.O.R.E. Agenda in Bomadi local government area, and which has already started", Hon. Dagidi said.

London_____ The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr Dennis Otuaro, has encouraged  students under Programme’s foreign scholarship scheme to justify the Federal Government’s investment in them by taking their studies seriously.

Otuaro gave the advice during his meeting with the PAP scholarship students currently studying in the United Kingdom on Sunday.

Otuaro said in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, on Monday, that much was expected from the students in their academic performance to justify the Federal Government's investment in their education.

Otuaro told them that the PAP scholarship scheme had produced large number of graduates who made first-class and second-class upper divisions in competitive disciplines, including the sciences and clinical sciences.

He urged them to sustain the story of academic excellence by their counterparts back home in the foreign country. 

According to him, many PAP graduates are doing very well in their post-graduation endeavours and contributing significantly to national growth and development.

The PAP boss stated that his administration was putting measures in place to make the scholarship scheme more robust to bridge the human capacity gap in the Niger Delta.

Otuaro said he would continually prioritize the scholarship and welfare of students studying in Nigerian and foreign universities under the ongoing reintegration phase of the programme.

He said this was in tandem with the vision of President Bola Tinubu for the peace, security, stability, and socio-economic development of the Niger Delta, as encapsulated in his Renewed Hope Agenda.

Otuaro stated that Tinubu was delighted by the success stories and the sterling academic performances of the programme's scholarship students at home and abroad.

He said the president, encouraged by the excellent academic feats, had expressed a strong commitment to supporting the Office to deepen initiatives in educational and vocational training for youths in the region.

He thanked the President for his favourable disposition to the Office and his efforts to foster the transformation of the region through his Renewed Hope Agenda.

Otuaro, therefore, urged the students to be good ambassadors of the PAP, their respective communities, the Niger Delta and the Federal Government, by shunning negative acts that would bring a bad reputation to the country as a whole.

Otuaro, while addressing the students, said, "As PAP scholarship students abroad, it is very important that you study hard and aim to make the best grades in your academics. 

“That is what you have been sent here to do, and that is what you are here to do and nothing else. Nigeria deserves nothing less than good conduct and sterling academic performances from you. 

"We will always prioritize your scholarship and welfare because this is one avenue through which we can achieve our goal of closing the existing gap in the human capital development of our region.

"Let me take this opportunity to inform you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is very happy with the fact that PAP scholarship students are making first-class and second-class upper divisions in various courses of study, particularly in the sciences, engineering, and clinical sciences.

"Therefore, the Niger Delta is properly captured in Mr President's Renewed Hope Agenda, which is why he is very supportive of the Office in terms of the educational and vocational programmes we carry out to deepen the reintegration phase of the programme for the benefit of our people. 

"We are immensely grateful to Mr President, and that is why I urge you all to take your studies seriously and don't disappoint the Federal Government, the PAP Office, and the Niger Delta region where you come from."

In their reaction, the students expressed gratitude to the PAP boss for visiting them and prioritizing their scholarship and welfare.

The are particularly happy that the PAP boss took the decision to personally visit them which is clearly indicative of government’s seriousness to their education and welfare.

Abuja _____ A Delta State-born development and peace advocate, and initiator of the creation of Coastal Areas Development Agency, CADA, Chief Sheriff Mulade has commended the Sheriff Oborevwori Administration for creating the Ministry of Riverine Infrastructure, with an appeal for statutory status to the Ministry.

Chief Mulade, who is the Ibe-Sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, and the National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, gave the commendation at Abuja in a chat with newsmen over the recent development.

The peace advocate said the creation of the Ministry and the appointment of Chief Ebikeme Clark both indicated that Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is a true democrat eager to carry all segments of the state along in his development strides, particularly those in the deprived riverine areas.

He commended the Governor for his move to solve the problem of infrastructural deficit in the riverine areas by creating the Ministry which he said would go a long way in helping to ease the plights of coastal and riverine rural dwellers.

"I must commend Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for this bold step, which is long overdue. It shows that the Governor has a listening ear, and I believe through the establishment of this Ministry, the riverine areas will be given a sense of belonging, and will equally experience a new lease of life if adequately funded," Mulade asserted.

He said the riverine areas play host to mainly maritime, oil and gas production activities, which he said constitute the mainstay of Nigeria's economy. He, however, noted that the riverine areas lack many basic amenities despite the huge contributions to the development of the State and Nigeria at large. 

"We have been crying for years over the deliberate neglect of the coastal dwellers after over seven decades of oil exploration activities, accentuated by the lopsided distribution of socio-economic development," he added.

Chief Mulade noted that while the move was commendable, he was still bothered about the prospect of the Ministry in terms of its permanence as a statutory Agency backed by law.

He therefore appealed to the Oborevwori-led government to send an executive bill to the State House of Assembly to make the Ministry of Riverine Infrastructure a statutory institution to help guarantee its existence beyond his administration and give more assurance to stakeholders that their welfare is paramount to the government.

He noted that the infrastructural deficit in the riverine areas of Delta State might not be totally addressed within a few years due to the difficult terrain of the coastal areas that will attract heavy funding to implement viable projects.  

The Ijaw born development and peace advocate  strongly appealed to Governor Oborevwori to consider the Ministry of Riverine Infrastructure as a development priority that requires adequate funding to achieve its purpose of creation, devoid of politics.
