Fear of the Unknown: Abba Kyari refuses to eat NDLEA food in cell

Fear of the Unknown: Abba Kyari refuses to eat NDLEA food in cell

....... Confessed working directly with cartels in Brazil, Ethiopia

Francis Tayor

Suspended DCP Abba Kyari has refused to eat food prepared by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, confessed working directly with cartels in Brazil, Ethiopia

According to Vanguard, Kyari is currently being held inside its cell at Gambia Street, Area 11, Garriki, Abuja.

NDLEA sources said he had been relying on food brought by a yet-to-be-identified friend, instead of eating what was prepared for him and other inmates inside the cell.

It was gathered that the once respected and highly rated police officer confided in his fellow cellmates that he didn’t trust whatever officials of the agency would give him because he wants to be alive to declare his innocence over the allegations against him.

It was also learned that almost 24 hours after he was declared wanted by the agency and later arrested by the police and handed over to them, no visitor has been allowed to see him and four other personnel of the IGP team.

This, according to sources, is based on directives from NDLEA boss, Buba Marwa, that none of the suspects should be allowed to receive visitors until the agency completes investigations into allegations against them.

However, NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, was quoted as saying that the suspects were being fed as and when due and that no one was starving them.

“We allowed Kyari ‘s family members to bring his food based on a
special request,’’ said Babafemi.

The drug trafficking saga involving disgraced top cop, Abba Kyari, further evolved on Wednesday, with details connecting him directly to barons in Brazil and Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has become a major gateway to drug spread in Africa and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at a point mid-last year placed the country’s national carrier under surveillance for allegedly returning the highest number of caught drug couriers.

The agency released a new set of incriminating information yesterday, as questions were being asked about its officers indicted by the leadership of the Nigerian Police as collaborators in the drug deals.

“According to the police investigation report, ASP James Bawa in his statement to the police revealed that ‘he was called by an informant identified as IK from Brazil who told him that a drug courier will be arriving on board Ethiopian Airlines in Enugu.

“He explained further that a pointer from IK, the Brazil-based informant met with him at about 1420hrs on January 19 outside the airport and showed him a picture of the courier”.

Apply for political appointment, Soludo tells Anambra citizens

Apply for political appointment, Soludo tells Anambra citizens

Anambra State governor-elect, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has called on well meaning technocrats willing to serving under his government as political appointees to apply.

This is just as the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, appealed to governor-elect to include them as members of his political appointees.

A notice by the Dr Oby Ezekwesili-led transition committee, which was signed on her behalf by the Executive Director of the committee called on those who want to serve under the former CBN chief to apply by visiting the application portal.

The notice of expression of interest read: “A Transition Committee mandated to ensure a seamless transition will among other things; produce an Anambra State Human Resource Databank, which the Governor-Elect will use as a Human Resources tool for recruiting a talented team and volunteers.

“As stated in his Manifesto and repeated during his election campaigns, the Governor-Elect, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has committed to giving everyone who has requisite competencies, capabilities, and relevant valuable contributions to make toward the good governance of Anambra State an opportunity to do so.

“Therefore, to enable an accessible, open, credible, and competitive process, the Governor-Elect has approved the launch of the online system to collect information on available competencies, experiences, and interests through a platform.

The committee said the platform is designed for indigenes of Anambra to volunteer or seek a political appointment, or career in paid public service positions.

“This Human Resources tool offers a transparent and level playing field for talent search and team selection processes consistent with the vision of the Governor-Elect.

“We hope to attract problem-solvers with passion, competence, capacity, and integrity who are interested in joining a team of other selfless public servants to build a livable and prosperous state.”

The committee listed the positions available to include; advisory services, technical assistance, executive positions as commissioners and heads of departments and agencies, membership of commissions and boards of parastatals and agencies; local government administration.

Applicants the notice stated will write and state what problem or problems they can solve for Anambra, how you intend to do so, and what makes them fit and proper for the job.

Meanwhile, Mr Ugochukwu Okeke, State Chairman, JONAPWD, appealed to the governor to include PWDs in the appointments to be made when he received members of the Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), in Awka, on Saturday.

Okeke said such inclusion would help them have a voice in government as well as to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

“We appreciate Governor Willie Obiano for the opportunity accorded persons with disabilities by employing about 250 of us into the state civil service and for establishing the disability commission.

“We want this gesture to continue which is why we came up with a charter of demands for the incoming administration. We appeal to Prof. Soludo to consider PWDs as some of his political appointees.

“When we have some of us in government they are in the best position to understand the needs of people like us and push for policies that will better our lives.

“We also want his administration to consider having a data of PWDs in the state, continuous employment of PWDs, the introduction of social protection programmes, housing scheme, scholarship and improved healthcare,” he said.

Okeke also urged political parties to prioritise the total inclusion of PWDs to help them contest during elections and fully participate in political activities.

He appreciated JDPC- Onitsha, for their continual support for persons with disabilities in the state.

Earlier, Mr Alphonsus Nwoye, the Manager, JDPC Onitsha/FCDO project, said the visit was to generate development issues to be used in engaging the incoming administration.

Nwoye said such engagement would deepen inclusive and good governance for sustainable development in Anambra.

He also sought for the partnership to intensify voter and civic education to encourage PWDs to participate in politics ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Ezekiel felicitates with Adejobi, new Police PRO Abuja

Ezekiel felicitates with Adejobi, new Police PRO Abuja

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Security Matters, Comrade Daniel Pere Ezekiel, has congratulated his boyhood friend, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on his appointment as the new Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In a congratatory message released on Tuesday in Warri, and personal signed by himself, Ezekiel said Adejobi was his co-activist while they were in University of lbadan back in the days.

According to the congratatory message, read:

“My Bible informs me that when a man is diligent in his work, he will not only stand before common mortals, but he will dine and wine with Kings,” Ezekiel writes. The following Bible chapter came true in my comrade’s life, yep, you heard me correctly, brother and boyhood. Assuming the role of image maker and spokesperson for the Nigerian police force, BUDDY, prince, was named chief superintendent of police (CSP).

The statement reads: “As a fellow activist at the level of NANS, especially in our primary constituency, University of Ibadan, he was our lead singer any time students had issue with school authority that warrant protest.

“He was our lead singer any time students had issue with school administration that warranted protest as a fellow activist at the level of NANS, especially in our core constituency, University of Ibadan,” the statement continues.

“As a student activist, you helped humanity, and your exploit in your current field continues to carry the torch.”

Because you were a round peg in a square hole during your time as the force image maker in Lagos State, the Nigeria police force under the dynamic leadership of Usman Alkali Baba did not make a mistake in choosing you at this vital time to be the bridge between police and residents.

As you progress in your illustrious career. I pray for more insight, understanding, and grace that transcends all human comprehension. Ma Sallam! Congratulations, OBA LO LA, the statement added.

Just-ln: Former President Jonathan, two others finally picked as Buhari’s successor

....... As Aso Rock cabals submits three names to president Buhari

Abuja_____ As Aso Rock cabals submits three names to president Muhammadu Buhari, who is billed to quit office in 15-month time, has settled for a list, made up of three names, wherein one would be finally picked as his successor and this is authoritative.

Highly credible source who confided in OpenLife Magazine early Friday said the decision was taken in his lastest foreign trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Africa Union Heads of State and Government.

The Ethiopia meeting was the needed opportunity for Buhari to congregate his inner caucus who, according to OpenLife source, flew into Addis Ababa from different locations and time to ward off any suspicion that may arise from close aides.

The source further affirmed that foreign interests were well represented and presented “Because International community acceptance of Buhari’s choice is very key”, he stated.

Continuing, the source said “Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Adams Oshiomhole and Ogbonnaya Onu, current Minister of Science and Technology were finally picked and Baba was told to set aside political grievance and have a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar and get their buy-in to minimize rancour as count down begins,” he said.

However, the source added that Buhari has accepted to meet his military colleagues but “Obasanjo may be a hard nut to crack and his acceptance is very important because he is better placed to organize the international leaders for the process to be smooth.”

Lawmaker Pullah, tasks multinationals to protect Niger Delta environment

Lawmaker Pullah, tasks multinationals to protect Niger Delta environment

Francis Tayor

Chairman House Committee oil and Gas and Environment Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Pullah Ekpotuayerin, has tasked multinationals in Niger Delta to ensure adequate protection of the environment by not dumping toxic waste chemicals in the sea and nearby forest to endanger the inhabitants and aquatic creatures.

Ekpotuayerin disclosed this on Monday in Asaba while receiving reports of some community leaders from Burutu, Ughelli South and Warri South West LGA's of the state on companies indiscriminate dumping of wastes materials in parts of their environment and across Niger Delta region, advising the companies to always consider the safety and protection of their host communities' environment as well as lives of aquatic creatures.

Ekpotuayerin who represented the good people of Burutu South Constituency noted, '' I want to say the Delta state House of Assembly  will take some very drastic punitive measures on companies who violate and develop the habit of destroying the environment deliberately by dumping toxic waste materials on the waterways, the high sea and forests. You are not only destroying the lives of the the aquatic creatures, but destroying lives of people living around your operational base. This deliberate act causes adverse economic effect as crops and plants growth is affected as well as fishing activities as waste chemicals cut short lives of aquatic creatures, especially fishes and prawns die in their numbers, making life harsh and unbearable for fishermen/farmers in Niger Delta region.

'' Apart from oil spill which damages the environment massively, companies still deliberately dumping toxic waste materials in high sea, rivers and forest within where they operate. This will be looked into by the committee which I shared and punitive measures shall be taken to curb flagrant abuse and disobedience of safety of the environmental protection in Delta state'' He assured.

The lawmaker also urged multinational oil companies to find way to stop Gas flaring as continued abuse of the environment through massive flaring of Gas endangers the lives of the Niger Delta people, thereby cut short lives span of men and women in the region below 70 years with strange ailments resulting from acidic pollution of oil and Gas in Niger Delta region.

The lawmaker also cautioned on the activities of illegal refinery operators of the adverse health effect posed on the lives of people in the communities as well as the environment.
