It Is Wrong To Say Governor Okowa Is Only Good At Appointing Delta Ijaws As SA, SSA's In His Cabinet, We Have Commissioners, Deputy Governor, Others, Comrade Oyinbi Onduku Tells Critics

Francis Tayor

Warri_____ The leader of Concerned Citizens For Izon-ebe Development (CCFID), Comrade Oyinbi Onduku has lambasted those referring to the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator (Dr) lfeanyi Arthur Okowa as only good at appointing ljaws as SA,SSA's in his cabinet, noting that the present administration has given ljaws Commissioners, Board members, as well as other vital positions in the state.

Comrade Onduku, who is a strong critics of governor Okowa led government in terms of underdevelopment of the riverine communities, as well as marginalization of Ward 7 Ayakoromo people in Burutu Local Government Area for appointment as deviated from the recent outburst of some Ijaw youths maligning Okowa for appointing ljaws as SA, SSA's.

In a Press Statement released today 10th October, 2019 at Warri, the ljaw activist, said governor Okowa has been fair to the ljaws in terms of political appointments. We have Commissioners, Senior Political Adviser, Board members and even the Deputy Governor from Ijaw in the present administration. It is wrong to say the governor is only given SA's appointment to ljaws. The areas the governor has not done well for the ljaws is infrastructural development. We need roads, bridges, light, dredging of rural communities etc.

According to the Press Statement, Comrade Onduku said; " IT IS WRONG TO SAY GOVERNOR OKOWA OF DELTA STATE IS ONLY GOOD AT APPOINTING DELTA IJAWS AS SA, SSA'S AND WHATEVER. THE IJAWS HAVE COMMISSIONER FOR OIL AND GAS, POWER AND ENERGY, ECONOMIC AND BUDGET PLANNING, DEPUTY GOVERNOR ETC. IT'S LEFT FOR THOSE APPOINTEES TO USE THEIR OFFICE WELL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WHERE THEY COME FROM.

I FELT BAD FOR THE IMMEDIATE PAST COMMISSIONER FOR POWER AND ENERGY, WHO UNFORTUNATELY COULD NOT ATTRACT POWER TO HIS OWN TOWN ENEKOROGHA, OGRIAGBENE, OGBEINAMA, BOMADI TALKLESS OF OTHER IJAW VILLAGES. THAT IS CALLED ABUSE OF POWER AND OFFICE.

I MUST COMNEND GOVERNOR OKOWA FOR THE APPOINTMENTS SO FAR, HE SHOULD NOT BE DISTRACTED BY RUMOUR MONGERS. KEEP APPOINTING AND LET'S SEE THOSE THAT CAN DELIVER. HOWEVER , GOVERNOR OKOWA SHOULD WORK ON INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT, ESPECIALLY THE COMPLETION OF AYAKOROMO BRIDGE, ROAD NETWORK, DREDGING OF RURAL COMMUNITIES, LIGHT, DRINKABLE WATER AND LOTS MORE, THE STATEMENT ADDS."

Battle For Deputy Provost Deepens At College Of Education Mosogar, As Aspirants Scheme Pending Dr. Erhinyodavwe's Tenure Ends In November

Battle For Deputy Provost Deepens At College Of Education Mosogar, As Aspirants Scheme Pending Dr. Erhinyodavwe's Tenure Ends In November

Francis Tayor

Mosogar______ As the Deputy Provost of the College of Education,  Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr. Johnson Erhinyondavwe's tenure expired in November, many Chief  lectures in the college are already scheming in a bid to succeed him.

Amongst those scheming seriously to grab the plum job are : Dr.Moses Omayuli, Dr. Moses Ossai, Dr.Onojete Power and Mr.Daniel Avwenaghegha .

Of the lots Dr.Moses Omayuli and Dr.Moses Ossai are already carrying on as if they have grab the position already. While Omayuli was said to be bragging of having Senator (Chief) Ighoyota Amori, as his godfather, Ossai on the other hand is backing on solid support from Governor Ifeanyi Okowa , because of his ethnic background. However,  Mr.Daniel Avwenaghegha and Dr. Power Onojete, were said, to hang their fate in destiny.

In this article, we serve you in  brief their strong  and low points which could decide in their favour or militate against their aspirations.

Dr.Moses Omayuli :  Is an  environmental biologist. He is a senior lecturer scheming to succeed the outgoing Deputy Provost. He has acted in that capacity and that of the Provost in the past . He is not strange to the challenges of that office. Besides , he is sure of Senator Ighoyota Amori, the Chairman of Delta State Capital Development Agency and the Otota of Mosogar Kingdom's  support anytime, anyday. However,   critical stakeholders are of the view that Omayuli's  anticidents has already disqualified him even before the race begins. He was said to be  high handed to staff and students of the college when he assumed that position and that of the Provost on acting capacity .He was said to have actively played on ethnic sentiment to the detriment of non indigenes working in the college.  His past records as acting Provost was an eye saw which was characterised by massive  corruption and reckless  maladministration. He was said to be a self serving man who plays the ethnic card to whip up sentiments for self gain under the guise of fighting for Mosogar's interest.

Omayuli was also accused of alleged promotion to the rank of a senior lecturer without the requisite academic qualifications in  2008 contrary to the regulations of the National Council of the Colleges of Education. His ascension was said to be an academic fraud perpetuated with the connivance of  a compromised Academic Board of the College at that time .

Another reason stakeholders have questioned the rationality of Omayuli's scheming to come back again is that he is a master of undue process. He was said to have elevated an indicted  lecturer,  Mike Eguegu ,  accused of  sexual harassment to Dean , School of Arts and Social Sciences. He was also alleged to have made an unconfirmed assistant lecturer the coordinator of the college's demonstration school over confirmed senior colleagues just as he was said to made a part time  lecturer  the Head of Department of Political Science over permanent staff.

Omayuli, according to stakeholders should burry his ambition because of his lack of quality as an  administrator . He was said to be a puppet of his wife who was effectively in charge when the husband was acting as the college Provost.  He was said to have made the wife a lecturer II, the Head of the Department of Biology and the Director of UNICEF projects in the college.

Omayuli has been accused of bringing the college to its present sorry state. When he was acting  Provost,  he recklessly  awarded and supplied sub standard equipment and items for the price of quality ones . Omayuli is too corrupt and will kill the college if allowed to come again. Presently, the college is in court battling with litigation from a contractor over a misappropriated TETFUND money meant to pay contractors .

Dr. Moses Ossai : is a guardian and counsellor. He was said to have also acted before as Provost of the college. Ossai, believed he is there already as he flouts Okowa's and Delta north connection.

However,  critical stakeholders have also condemned Ossai's aspiration as fruitless exercise of a misguided actor who failed woefully when given the opportunity to act .   Those against him said, he is incompetent for the office and lack the requisite foresight, zeal and the push to revive the college. His ideology is not different from the one he employed when he acted in the past and that is not what the college needed in the present circumstance. The college required an astute administrator with fresh idea and the push to ensure its survival. This quality, Ossai, lacked and it will take an herculean task for him to make an appreciable impact if given the opportunity again. Besides,  like Moses Omayuli,  age is not on the side of Moses Ossai.

Moses Ossai , was also accused of alleged reckless and gross financial misconduct during his short stay as active Provost. This stakeholders said, also disqualified him  from any reconsideration of coming back again.

Mr. Daniel Avwenaghegha : is also a guardian and counsellor. He is a quiet and easy going person. Unlike the duo of Moses Omayuli and Moses Ossai, he has not acted as Deputy Provost or Provost before, and this is an added advantage. Again, Avwenaghegha, is from Jesse, a sister community to Mosogar Kingdom, where the college is situated. Opinion moulder are of the view that Moses Omayuli and Moses Ossai, should voluntarily step down for Avwenaghegha, as a befitting parting gift for his retirement, since he has not occupied the office before. Avwenaghegha, is also said to be better placed and will do better if given the opportunity to act.

However,  the only clog in the wheel of Avwenaghegha's progress to ascend the Deputy Provost's  office in acting capacity is that of the ethnic card that is been played once again. A prominent politician and a High Chief from Mosogar Kingdom is said to have been dragged into the scheme and has vowed that a Jesse man will never be the Provost of the college as long as he lives.  This is the only " k " leg to Avwenaghegha's emergence.

Dr. Onojete Power : is from the Department of Educational Foundation. He  is also scheming to become the Deputy Provost. Like Moses Omayuli and Moses Ossai, he has also acted as a Deputy Provost for two tenure in the past . Though qualified, stakeholders said, he has  so many negatives against him. First and foremost, he was accused of extreme rigidity in his administrative / leadership style.  Added to this, is that age is  not on his side and he is said to lack the ideals of a young vibrant administrator that could turn things around for the college.

Sheath Your Swords And Embrace Peace, Okowa Aide On Security Daniel Ezekiel Appeals To Okere-Urhobo, Itsekiri Youths In Warri

Francis Tayor

Warri_____ Senior Special Assistant SSA, to the Delta State governor on security matters, Comrade Daniel Pere Ezekiel has appealed to the youths of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom and her Itsekiri counterparts in Warri to sheath their swords and embrace peace, over the recent killings at the weekend during the burial of late Okere-Urhobo monarch, HRM Late Prof. Oghenero Okumagba Idama ll, stressing that the issue could have been resolved amicably without resulting to lost of lives and properties.

The SSA made the appeal in a Press Statement at Warri, stated that it is so disheartening that the youths who are suppose to be peace ambassadors in our society are the ones causing bloodbath over a minor misunderstanding is uncalled for. He said it is better to jaw-jaw than to beat drum for war, noting that no matter the level we go in terms of violence, we are all still bound to dialogue on the same table at the end.

According to the Press Statement reads; " Late Jamaican reggae musician, Bob Marley said in one of his songs titled, 'one Love',  lets come together and live alright. It is so disheartening that youths who are suppose to be the embodiment of this reggae icon message are the ones causing bloodbath over an issue that could be resolved amicably. Burial of His Royal Majesty , late professor Oghenero Okumagba Idama ll , a man of absolute peace while alive and father to all regardless of ethnic group, should not make people to turn clubs, cutlasses and guns against each other.

My fellow youths, you all clamour for job and other forms of empowerment from state government and muti-national companies, but how do we expect them to bring this in the midst of crisis ? The answer is capital NO. It is better to jaw-jaw than to war because no matter the level we go in terms of violence, we are all still bound to dialogue on the same table, so why killing each other in the first instance. I hereby call on youths from  Okere-Urhobo and their counterpart from Itsekiri  axis to please lay down their arms and give peace a chance so that His Excellency,  Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa developmental agenda can flourish in their communities.

I equally appeal to the elders and leaders in the area to play unifying role instead of fanning ember of crisis and reign in the youths with words of wisdom on why peace should be given a chance for the good of all, the statement adds."

Signed ,
Comrade Ezekiel Daniel,
SSA to Delta state Governor on security .

Burutu_____The National Deputy President of Concerned Citizens For Izon-Ebe Development (CCFID), Comr.Ekpegha Tamaraupreye has called on the governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen  Dr.Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to intervene immediately in order to save the lives of riverine dwellers from the ravaging flood across the state. Comr Ekpegha disclosed that the State Emergency Operation Centre has been activated as the state was already experiencing flood emergency as a result of river flooding, noting that over twenty Communities in Burutu local government area in Delta State have been submerged by the so called flood.

Comr.Ekpegha who is also an activist in the Niger Delta Struggle, speaking to journalists on the 30th September, 2019 in Ayakoromo alleged that more than twenty communities in Burutu,Bomadi,Patani, Warri south and North in Delta State were severely affected.

According to Comrade Ekpegha, said; " communities, villages and schools that are severely affected includes; Ayakoromo community, Ebeingbene, Ojojogbene, Sunday Gbene, Bobogbene, Gbekobo, Newtown, Akparemogbene, Ogbeingbene, Ofenibagha among others. The activist reiterated that over 70 percent of Ayakoromo communities have been submerged by flood.

Speaking further, he said in the last few days, many communities, settlements have been displaced as a result of flooding. Flood threat in Delta State and Nigeria as a whole have become a normal and re-occurring phenomenon which sometimes has devastating impacts on human livelihood and infrastructural development."

He stressed that causes of this problem are, poor drainage facilities and decaying infrastructures, lack of proper environmental planning and management strategies, poor practice of dumping waste/refuse and climate change coupled with inadequate preparedness have been traced and among others, human activities in terms of developmental involvements adjudged to be very important factors in accelerating the rate of this disaster which often leaves in its wake spread of diseases, loss of thousands of lives from various parts of the state and properties worth billions of naira being destroyed. The impacts of floods are more pronounced in low-lying areas.

It is high time the government recognised flooding as a real - time problem especially, in the face of global climate change. The ecological funds should therefore be used to protect the citizenry from floods and environmental challenges.

As a matter of urgency, am calling on the state governor Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa and the legislators representing the coastal region to sponsor bills containing the permanent creation Camps, with yearly budget to rehabilitate flood displaced victims. Design flood displaced camps and financial support to them, relief materials should be made available and other measures to control the threatening flood situation now before its cause more damage. Because affected individuals need food, shelter assistance, provision of health services, drinking water and access to clean toilets.

He further advised those living in flood-prone and affected communities to relocate to safer locations or move to the nearest camps which had been opened by the state in different local government area's, in order to avoid loss of lives and property, the statement adds.

The National Coordinator Center for Peace and Environmental Justice CEPEJ, Comrade Amb.Sheriff Mulade has charged Nigerians to remain resolute and committed in the Nigerian project that can bring about development to the doorstep of all citizens, stressing that the nation will surpass its present challenges when there is collective effort.

Amb.Mulade made the call yesterday October 1st, 2019 in a goodwill message to Nigerians from Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), on the occasion of Nigeria 59th Independence Day Anniversary, said Nigeria has been enveloped with various trials which culminated into the Nigerian spirit of perseverance, courage, selflessness and the dream of a greater Nigeria irrespective of the insecurity, religious, political and ethnic challenges faced by its citizens today.

In his goodwill message, he said;" My fellow Nigerians, it is with great joy that l send this congratulatory message to you all on this auspicious day as important to our country Nigeria.

Today is the beginning of a new month and new dawn in our various lives and our 59th Independence Anniversary day, the day our founding fathers fought and freed us from the shackles of colonial rule exactly 59 years ago.

Our nation's journey has been enveloped with various episodes, scenes and trials which culminated into the Nigerian spirit of perseverance, courage, selflessness  and the dream of a greater Nigeria irrespective of the insecurity, economic, religious, political and  ethnic challenges faced by citizens today .

The vision of our founding fathers built on love, freedom and justice  was destroyed by the mindless military entrance into our polity which led us into the wilderness of corruption, hatred and selfishness. As we all stand united with one voice clamouring for a greater, brighter and prosperous Nigeria, all hands must be on deck to bring back the lost glory of our country.

There is no doubt that we have all come a long way in this project called NIGERIA, but as a great and strong nation, we should plan to position our country to greater heights.

As we all celebrate our 59 years of nationhood today, I want all our leaders to reflect back and do an appraisal by focusing on what will make our country the giant of Africa again.

Today CEPEJ is informing all Nigerians to build our  nation  and it is a collective effort which requires the collective will and mindset of all to achieve. We all need to see ourselves as one Nigeria, we all need to let go of our culture of mediocrity and corruption which has held us backwards from developing our society and potentials of emerging as a great nation before other international world.

Nigeria is a great nation, we have strong and hard working people who can survive all over the world, we are courageous, we are bold and beautiful, we are blessed with minerals resources such as crude oil, gold, limestone among others.

My fellow Nigerians, it is time for us as a nation to sing a song of victory and chart a new beginning that will lead us into prosperity and advancement in all spheres of human endeavors having being immensely blessed by God with rich human and natural assets which makes us the envy of all African nations and the globe at large.

CEPEJ believes a bright future awaits us as a country Nigeria and  urges all to remain resolute and committed in the Nigerian project that can bring about development to the doorstep of all citizens.

Though we have passed through various challenges as a nation in security, educationally and financially, we must strive to succeed!

The Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, still believes confidently that the sky is indeed bright for us as a nation.

Please, accept my congratulations of our 59 years of nationhood, the statement adds."

God Bless Nigeria!

Comrade Sheriff Mulade
National Coordinator, CEPEJ.
