NDDC Saga: Uduaghan Denies Akpabio’s N429m NDDC Road Contract Allegation, Says Report ls False And Laughable

NDDC Saga: Uduaghan Denies Akpabio’s N429m NDDC Road Contract Allegation, Says Report ls False And Laughable

Francis Tayor

The immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, says allegation by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of collecting N429m road contract from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is false.

Uduaghan described the report as laughable and untrue in its entirety.

According to media report, Akpabio in a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had linked Uduaghan and Chief James Ibori, also a former governor of Delta, among others with some contracts awarded by NDDC.

The media reports quoting the minister saying that Uduaghan, now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was linked to the emergency repairs of Close B, Alhaji Estate & Environs, Rumuodomaya, Port Harcourt at a cost of N429m.

But Udugahan in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Monoyo Edon, debunked the allegation, stressing that he had never “approached the NDDC for any contract whatsoever.”

The former governor said he had reached out to Akpabio, his former governor colleague, to immediately correct the report as he had never been awarded contracts by the interventionist agency.

Uduaghan said, “We want to state very clearly that the said accusation is FALSE. Dr.

Uduaghan has never approached the NDDC for any contract whatsoever. It is even more ridiculous that the said contract is a road inside Port Harcourt town.

“Dr. Uduaghan has drawn the attention of the Hon. Minister of the Niger Delta, Sen Godswill Akpabio to the publication and hopes he makes a correction.”

He, however, advised the reading public to disregard the mischievous publication, the statement adds.

Just-ln: Shoprite To Close Operation ln Nigeria Due To Negative Effect Of Coronavirus Outbreak

Just-ln: Shoprite To Close Operation ln Nigeria Due To Negative Effect Of Coronavirus Outbreak

Francis Tayor

South African Company, Shoprite Holdings Limited, has blamed its decision to close operations in Nigeria on the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The company revealed on Monday that it will auction off its outlets in Nigeria.

This is coming about 15 years after it opened its first store in Lagos in December 2005.

According to our source reports that the megastore company with presence in most Nigerian cities hinged this decision on the coronavirus pandemic which has disrupted major businesses globally.

In an “Operational and Voluntary Trading Update (52 Weeks Ended 28 June 2020)” released on Monday, the company said it has been approached by “various potential investors”.

The update partly read, “Despite difficult circumstances, in a year incorporating the COVID-19 lockdown and accompanying regulations governing trade, transport and operations, the Group increased total sale of merchandise for the 52 weeks to 28 June 2020 (including the impact of hyperinflation in the prior year) by 6.4% to approximately R156.9 billion. Like-for-like growth for the year was 4.4%.

“Following approaches from various potential investors, and in line with our re-evaluation of the Group’s operating model in Nigeria, the Board has decided to initiate a formal process to consider the potential sale of all, or a majority stake, in Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Shoprite International Limited.

“As such, Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited may be classified as a discontinued operation when Shoprite reports its results for the year. Any further updates will be provided to the market at the appropriate time.”

The company, which provides jobs for more than 2,000 Nigerians, has over 25 stores across eight states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The South African business established 40 years ago with over 500 stores across the continent is arguably Africa’s largest grocery retailers.

Corruption: Political Appointees Have Abused Trust Reposed On Them, President Buhari Reacts To lnvestigations ln NDDC, EFCC Saga

Francis Tayor

Abuja_____ President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Abuja reacted for the first time on the allegations of corruption levelled against the leaderships of some Federal Government Agencies and Commissions.

These commissions include the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The president, who spoke after observing his Eid prayers at the forecourt of the presidential villa, observed that some appointees of the government in both his administration and the previous one have abused their trust.

He, however, expressed delight that some stolen assets are being recovered, sold and proceeds put into the Single Treasury Account (TSA), which is inaccessible to the corrupt persons involved.

When asked how he felt about recent revelations coming out from the EFCC and the NDDC, President Buhari said:

“There has been an abuse of trust by people trusted by the previous administration and this administration.

“A number of assets have been recovered and some money.

“But we have introduced TSA where all the monies are taken and I said asset should be sold and the money be put through TSA so that it can be identified at any level and I will see who will come after us and take it back again to those who misappropriated public funds.”

While assuring that all past and present cases would be fully investigated, he said: “This is why we put the commission (of investigation) in place.”

He stressed that all of such cases would be uncovered and firmly dealt with by his government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports Senate and House of Representatives are currently investigating how the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) allegedly squandered N40 billion within few months.

NAN also reports that the Presidency had instituted a Presidential Probe Panel headed by retired Justice Ayo Salami to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the suspended acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

The alarming negative statistics resulting from tricycle accidents and the compelling need to enhance safety remains sacrosanct - Oromoni

The alarming negative statistics resulting from tricycle accidents and the compelling need to enhance safety remains sacrosanct - Oromoni

A statement signed by the Delta State Taskforce Chairman Honourable Sylvester Oromoni, affirmed that the ongoing enforcement of traffic laws will be stepped up across the State to check cyclists from violating the laws.

The violation of traffic laws by commercial motorcyclists remain unacceptable and this has necessitated the enforcement of the State Traffic Law to pave the way for the implementation of the present administration traffic laws.

“Their operations were restricted from the federal roads, including highways, yet they felt protest will make us rescind our decision.

We cannot fold our arms and watch them disrupt the peace of the State. Accidents involving tricycles were reported between yesterday and this afternoon. At Okuokoko today by 2.11pm another accident was recorded along this said road.

Bemoaning the era of indecency exhibited by tricycle riders, the the State Taskforce Chairman on Environment stated that their consistent and brazen disregard for the law, in addition to drug abuse by many should be a matter of concern to us all.

Keke is being used to escape after robberies. Besides, the influx into the State of many riders without traceable addresses and valid means of identification remains a huge security and safety threat to residents.

Aside from the sheer size of the industry, the level of indiscipline, security concerns and, particularly, the level of fatalities being recorded daily, demand appropriate and very serious sanctions.

Honourable Sylvester Oromoni affirmed that the resolve to strengthen security has reinvigorated the government’s commitment to instilling sanity in the operation of ‘‘Keke’ business.

JKing Alfred Izonebi Pays Glowing Tribute To Late Mentor, King Dr. Robert Ebizimor After 6Years Of Departure To The Great Beyond

That music genius, that peerless philosopher of inestimable value, called King Dr Robert Ebizimor who cleared a clearing,a path,a career, for me and who still guides and lectures me musically in dreams, departed this world today even after telling me on the phone on 27 July 2014 that I should get the musical instruments arranged and ready for his thanksgiving and survival celebratory party.Robby, did you merely trick me and left for the underworld?

Dear King Robert Ebizimor, you are everything in my life. There is no Alfred Izonebi in Ijaw without King Robert.Even the name Izonebi was given to me by you.King Robert was my father, mother, brother, friend and mentor.I can still feel the emotional impact of your departure which still aches and pains me till this moment and it shall remain so forever.

Dear King Robert Ebizimor, in a wrestling match or bout you never bargained for, Death arrogantly arranged it and beat you mercilessly on 31 July 2014 while the whole world was eagerly waiting for your thanksgiving and survival party. No tears could bring you back to me.However, whereever you may be in the DUEAMABOU, know that your musical protege,Alfred Izonebi, is still full of tears and pains that never go away because they dwell in the innermost part of my body.

Dear King Robby, you are my peerless mentor and father who will continue to teach and guide me until my bones grow too old and tired for this world - a time the tired bones will willingly journey to that world at a very old age approved of by all my lovers, fans and believers.

And for those of us who always remember King Robert, let us always remember him on the stage with King Robert Ebizimor's own songs without singing our individual songs on 31 July 2020.Singing King Robert's songs in remembrance on stage would be a soothing and memorable remembrance for the unbeatable philosopher called King Dr.Robert Ebizimor.

FONDLY REMEMBERED BY JKING ALFRED IZONEBI

Marginalization: Ogulagha Kingdom Decries Over Neglect, Writes President Buhari

Marginalization: Ogulagha Kingdom Decries Over Neglect, Writes President Buhari

Ogulagha Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Areas of Delta State yesterday through a Press Conference decries the absolute, total and abject neglect of the Federal Government and the multinational oil companies operating in the kingdom.

The kingdom frown against the total neglect and marginalization despite being the golden hen that lays the golden eggs, yet nothing meaningful is visible seen in the kingdom.

    The statement reads in part.

*The ancient OGULAGHA KINGDOM is comprises of over 30 major communities and several satellite villages under the leadership of a Traditional Ruler, His Royal Majesty, Elder Capt, Joseph Timiyan (JP).......*
*It is of common knowledge to Nigerians and foreigners alike that  OGULAGHA KINGDOM is one of the highest producers of crude oil and gas and the 'BLACK GOLD' is found in all nooks and corners of the Kingdom*..

*There are in fact several National and Multinational Oil and Gas Companies that carry out crude oil exploration, exploitation and production activities in the kingdom and prominent amongst these are; The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited; Nigeria Agip Oil Company, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Britannia 'U' Oil Limited, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) and OANDO PLC.*

*

*The Kingdom hereby request for the following developmental project to be executed which are not limited to the followings; Shore production at Ogulagha, Obuguru, Osain and Abarabebe communities which lands are being washed away by high and heavy ocean waves, the sitting of a Federal University, Polytechnic and a Federal Medical Center/Hospital in Ogulagha Kingdom; construction of road and drainages in all the communities, dredging and canalization of access creeks in the Ogulagha community, Dredging and reclamation of Stuart creeks in the communities and a bridge connecting the kingdom to warri Urban Settlement.*

Amongsts other demands, The Kingdom  request that her indigenes should be considered for appointment as chairmen and board members of Federal Agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Presidential Amnesty Office, the Federal Executive Council etc.

They also harped on the quick execution of the Export Processing Zone/ Gas Revolution Industrial Park as the project is designed to cover 27,000 hectares of land, part of which is the land of Ogulagha Kingdom. They opined that the name of the park should be called the Niger Delta Gas Revolution Industrial Park or any other appropriate name that will reflect all the host kingdoms, and not to a particular community as it is being called the Ogidigben Gas Revolution Industrial Park. They request that the leadership of the Kingdom should be consulted, liaised with and be part and parcel of all negotiations towards the actualization of the project. They called on the president to re-energize the process towards making the project a reality as it has the prospect of opening up the Riverine Communities in terms of provision of massive employment.

On Marginal Fields Bidding Process, the kingdom queries the process of bidding for ownership and operation of marginal field exercise of 2020. They lament that, the process does not give preference to indigenous investors who are natives of oil and gas producing communities/kingdoms.
They however, requested that indigenous investors from Ogulagha Kingdom should be given the right of first Refusal in the bidding process. The indigenous investors should have the right to run and operate the marginal fields in their Kingdom and it is only when there are no qualified investors from the kingdom that the bidding should be made open.

The Press Conference which was held at OBOTOBO 1 community in Ogulagha Kingdom witness a massive gathering of chiefs, Community leaders, Youth Leaders, the kingdom women leadership and host of numerous sons and daughters across the length and breath of the Kingdom.
