The Problem With Africa: Read What Happened To An African Man Who Was Given Opportunity To Ask For Anything He Wants

The Problem With Africa: Read What Happened To An African Man Who Was Given Opportunity To Ask For Anything He Wants

The condition was that, whatever he gets, his brother would receive double.

He thought about asking for a house; but he did not like thought of his brother having two houses.

So he thought about asking for a million dollars to go to his

bank account; but again, he was unhappy with the thought of his

brother having two million dollars in his account.

The man sat down

and thought hard, “What can I have and still be better than my brother when he has double?”

So, he thought of having one of his eyes removed so that his

brother might have his two eyes gouged.

This sounds like a very unlikely story; however, this is the typical mentality that has set Africans backward for ages and caused witchcraft to thrive in Africa.

An African wants to be better than his brother at all costs

The African man is only careful:

-to share his beer, not his books;

-to spread his diseases, and not the cure;

-to transfer his problems, and

not the solution

When an African man fails, he wishes his brother same fate so that he won't be the only one who had tasted the bitterness of failure.

An African man is happy when evil besets his brother.

When most African men succeed, they want to enslave their

brothers; they try to make the class gap between them and their brothers widen daily.

An African man wants to outperform his

brother in every area and most African men do not want to let their brothers have any chances of success because they want to be the only ones succeeding.

When an African man gets to sit on a seat of authority, he wants to

keep it to himself and refuses to give anyone else a chance to sit.

In African schools, students who can afford textbooks do not let other students borrow their textbooks because they want to stay top of the class or they don't want to give another student the opportunity to perform better than them.

When one independently discovers the way to success, an African man who refused to give directions would still do all he can to stand in the way of that success.

An African man is ready to spend money to intimidate his brother and make him look like nothing.

Africa will become better; When we begin to share books to pass knowledge, not just our drinks.

When we begin to let others also lead without our influence.

When we begin to give the same quality

of food and clothing to both our children and our maids.

When we let our servants eat on the same table with us.

When the boss lets

his lower staff get paid before him.

Africa can become progressive when we begin to look out for each other rather than stand in the way of one another.

When we can sincerely say, “let my brother get it too, and if I can't get it, let me help him get it```

The Keke Menace And Why It Must Be Tamed

The Keke Menace And Why It Must Be Tamed

Tricycles have regrettably turned into a nightmare for road users. They have equally become prime sources of trauma to commuters and other motorists.

It is common knowledge and real-time experience that commercial motorcyclists, otherwise called “Keke”, have become a source of worry in our society. When some states across Nigeria clamped down on motorcycles, popularly called “Okada”, for a number of unpleasant reasons such as recklessness, robberies, kidnapping, speeding and dangerous riding, many people had thought that there would be sanity on our roads. Alas, they were dead wrong!

The ban of commercial motorcycles from major roads in the country had encouraged the patronage of tricycles as the alternative mode of transport for the common man. Apart from the structural similarity and functionality to motorcycles, tricycles are not expensive to buy, use and maintain. The operators easily maneouvre very busy roads, especially, during serious hold-ups and when many people are eager to get to their destinations at the same time. This causes commotion on the road. It is common to see a cross-section of people within the working class ride on commercial motorcycles whenever they need to keep up important and urgent appointments.

Massive importation of tricycles encouraged more people to take to that line of self-employment by earning a living and boosting the economic life of many states. Before now, the common means of public transport in the major cities involved the use of taxis with commercial buses joining as the nation’s population shot up. Tricycles became prominent during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, which implemented the National Agency for Poverty Eradication Programme, making it possible for the importation of large quantities of tricycles into the country, mainly for jobless youths and young school leavers.

The rationale behind banning commercial motorcycles (Okada) in many state capitals had to do with the negative consequences associated with the fast-growing mode of transport in the country as well as other developing nations. As noted earlier, they are cheaper to purchase, manage and ride, unlike cars or vehicles that require more attention and effort, to maintain or move from one place to another. The lawlessness that has been associated with “Okada” brought about more patronage of tricycles, as an alternative, but it appears to be causing more problem than the relief it was meant to bring. This unfortunate development has fuelled agitations for the proscription of tricycles from our roads. Many people also feel that tricycles should not be proscribed in the sense that they remain a viable alternative and a cheaper mode of transport.

Sadly, tricycles have regrettably turned into a nightmare for road users. They have equally become prime sources of trauma to commuters and other motorists. They are now a terror on the roads through reckless speeding, disobeying traffic rules and dangerously meandering through every available space between vehicles on serious traffic situations and engaging in recklessness. I have seen on several occasions where tricycle riders struggle with vehicle owners on the road.

The truth is that there is a faint difference between motorcycles and tricycles. In actual sense, what most motorcyclists did after their ban was to dispose of their motorcycles and purchased tricycles in order to be in business. What it means is that nothing has really changed when we look at the so-called migration. It is the same personalities behind both the banned motorcycles and the new tricycles that are still carrying excess luggage, engaging in speeding and committing other crimes and attacking commuters. It is simply like an old wine in a new bottle; no matter how much the wine is packaged or represented, it remains the same.

It is for these reasons that a better approach should be put in place to tame this monster. It remains a social problem because of the lives and property of the people that are involved and vulnerable to the untold and ugly experiences being suffered in the hands of the operators. To start with, the purchase and use of tricycles for commercial purposes should be revisited. They should be well-regulated so as to prevent people of questionable character from becoming commercial tricyclists overnight. Furthermore, indiscriminate importation of tricycles into the country should be closely monitored, as many of them are not roadworthy at all. The country appears to be a dumping ground for imported equipment and machines.

Government personnel plying for roads safety should stop looking elsewhere and rather beam their searchlight on only cars and buses at the neglect of motorcycles and tricycles. Stiffer penalties such as fines should be imposed, to punish anyone that violates traffic rules and regulations. Law enforcement agents should be supportive in restoring sanity on our roads. More mobile courts should be put in place to summarily try traffic offenders. They should not compromise their status by setting free offenders. This often happens when reckless offenders plead with law enforcement agents to set them free and never be punished. This gives some of them the courage to misbehave and feel on top of the world when they evade deserved punishment.

Opinion: Does Politics Teach Us To Destroy One Another ? (Part 1)

Opinion: Does Politics Teach Us To Destroy One Another ? (Part 1)

The major negative factors that have prevented development and stability in our Political dispensation in Nigeria is politics of bitterness.

Often times I see politicians killing each other, betraying one another because of political positions or appointments.

Does politics teach us to destroy one another?

Is  polities meant to eradicate integrity and love for one another?

Politicians who destroy and betray each other do so because they lack ethics of politics and true meaning of politics. The fact that you lost you lost in an election should not make you to develop hatred and bitterness towards your opponents.

Between 2016 till the eve of 2019 Gubernatorial election, I repeatedly throw tantrums, using derogative and ancoat words against our opponents in response to their repeated attacks on my principal but it will surprise you to know that in all these, it ends on our social platforms. We meet in different occasions, we sometimes call ourselves and have nice time together.

A true politician should constantly allow ethics in politics to guide his words and actions.

A case study of politics played in the western world, like America, Britain, Japan, Italy and Spain and so on, should be emulated by our politicians in Nigeria.

Recently, I watched the politics of Ghana to see if it would be characterized by violence that is often being  associated with Nigeria and other Africa nations. To my amazement, I discovered that Ghana politics was devoid of violence and rigging of election.  This is not to say that there were no negative flaws in Ghana politics. But it produces platform for other politicians to learn from.

The fact that you are in a different political party with your opponent should not make you nurse the ambition on how to destroy your opponent’s ambition or career.

The essence of Politics is to promote one another, enhance development in our society, promote peace and unity and motivate one another to higher heights generally.

We fail in our political ambitions and positions because of wrong motives in politics. We should constantly emulate God who makes the rain to fall on the just and on the unjust. We should always learn from his faithfulness, love, mercy, and kindness towards his creatures. Politicians who succeed in any Position should wish others well, overlook the mistakes and short-comings of others, see beyond the now and allow ethics in politics to guide their words and actions.

I will urge us all here in Delta to constantly allow our words and actions be devoid of hatred for our perceived opponents, live in unity and have a common goal that will always enhance positive development in states and communities. These will help to enhance your longevity on earth and favor with God and man.

I come in peace!

Presidential Amnesty: ljaw Youth Leader, Bakumor Faults Appointment Of Another Old Soldier, Accuses NSA Mungono Of Causing Problem In Niger Delta

Presidential Amnesty: ljaw Youth Leader, Bakumor Faults Appointment Of Another Old Soldier, Accuses NSA Mungono Of Causing Problem In Niger Delta

In what should ordinarily be an announcement of jubilation and celebration, Buhari has once again made a mistake of another acting appointment and shortchanged the  Ijaw people once again.

It is obvious that this is another attempt by the NSA Mohammed Babagana Monguno to keep installing stooges and ex-military friends that do his bidding to cover up the massive looting going on within the Amnesty office right from the time of Paul Boroh to Charles Dokubo as he is obviously the master behind the puppets.

Secondly, the Amnesty program needs an Amnesty Coordinator and not an Acting one. We want to call on the president to do what is right and listen to counsel and immediately do the right thing by appointing an Ijaw man as a Substantial permanent Amnesty boss instead of acting who is not experienced in the actual issues bedeviling the Ijaw people and the Niger delta people and not use it as an office for political compensation for Ex military old friends .

It would help Mr. President to be gently  reminded that the amnesty office was created for the rehabilitation of Ex- Agitators and to act as a sister body to the Niger Delta Ministry to address developmental issues of mostly the Ijaw Ethnic group of the Niger delta that took up arms against the Federal Government, and our cry remains that we need experienced and grounded people to man this offices and not all these ex military men and people with records like that of Akpabio, if the president wants the good of the Niger Delta truly.

Lastly, we want to ask the NSA Mohammed Babagana Monguno to either learn to listen to the wise counsel and advice the president on the right things as his greed for using Niger delta sons who are his stooges to gulp the Niger delta funds is an act that is capable of causing unrest within the region which may not be good for the government revenue and also for the innocent people of the region because it is almost like he is bent on crippling the Amnesty program and give the president a reason to scrap the program after you may have all allegedly looted the office dry with his stooges and friends to the detriment of the poor masses of the Ijaw national ethnic group and the Niger Delta at large.

This is another Boroh and Dokubo play book of the NSA against the Niger Delta, and the idea is to kill all interventionist agency in the Niger Delta. Then kill the Ministry Of Niger Delta too, as Godswill  Akpabio is just a tool in their hands.

Environment Taskforce Set To Checkmate Traffic Congestion In Warri Metropolis, Begins tow of vehicles illegally parked along roadside

Environment Taskforce Set To Checkmate Traffic Congestion In Warri Metropolis, Begins tow of vehicles illegally parked along roadside

The State Environment Taskforce says it will henceforth take action against all those obstructing vehicular movement on the roads in and around Warri Metropolis.

The warning was made Friday when members of the taskforce embarked on a road clearing mission particularly in areas where the roads are often congested and cause accidents.

Specifically, the team was at Airport Road, Jakpa Road and Refinery roads where it was observed that motorists block the road recklessly thereby obstructing the free flow of traffic.

Taskforce Chairman, Honorable Sylvester Oromoni insisted on the need to Checkmate the spare of indiscriminate parking on the road as well as other vices that often hold up the road, a situation that affects the economic prosperity of the area.

He warned that the days of reckless driving in the area were numbered as those caught will be made to face the full weight of the law.

According to the chairman, ' what we are seeing in Warri is not acceptable and we have resolved to bring a stop to it by insisting that motorists obey simple traffic rules '.

Continuing, he said, ' we cannot compromise on safety on the roads, other road users have a right to enjoy a free flow of traffic and government must step in to create a level playing field for everybody '.

Honorable Oromoni also frowned at the way most car dealers display their vehicles on the road insisting that they too have become a source of pain to other road users.

According to him, "government did not ask you to display your vehicles on the road. Your action is illegal and causes congestion as the right of way is blocked."

He warned that the State Environment Taskforce will henceforth tow vehicles parked without further notice as the patrol and visit to the car dealer shops was adequate notice.

The team was led by Comrade Kingsley Iweka who serves as the Co-ordinator Delta Central and South of the State Environment Taskforce.

It will be recalled that the team visited Robinson plaza recently where a similar warning was handed down after it was observed that visitors to the plaza park their vehicles on the Okumagbe Avenue road leading to traffic congestion on that axis of the road.

Taskforce Serves 7-Day Abatement Notice To Residents ln Warri, Marks Illegal Buildings For Demolition

Taskforce Serves 7-Day Abatement Notice To Residents ln Warri, Marks Illegal Buildings For Demolition

Delta State Taskforce on environment has served abatement notices on several premises in Warri metropolis and its environ for violating environmental sanitation laws.

It also marked some illegal buildings on top drainage canals along Olare river road, Bendel Estate in Uvwie local government area for demolition.

Chairman of the Taskforce, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni who led the team for an inspection visit on Tuesday complained that most of the environmental problems observed were due to clear violation by the people.

At the various places were the environmental breeches were observed, he asked the owners and occupants of the premises to take immediate action to correct observed lapses as the taskforce will come back to check compliance level.

The team which was at Edah Street, off Okere Ugborikoko road discovered that most house owners in the area connected their septic system into the public drains which is capable of causing widespread occurrence of infectious disease in and around the neighborhood. Auntie Mansal Bakery and other buildings in the street were served abatement notices to abate the nuisance within 7days.

While at Robinson Plaza along Déco road, the state taskforce chairman, Hon. Oromoni expressed displeasure over the traffic gridlock caused as result of illegal parking of vehicle by customers at the roadside.

To avoid impounding of customers vehicles, Oromoni charged the management of plaza to provide car park space for its customers, stressing that illegal parking of vehicle along the public road will no longer be tolerated by Delta state government.

Reacting to residents at Bendel Estate Ogboroke, Oromoni frowned at the environmental nuisance perpetrated by landlords. He said the deliberate blocked of canal with building is part of the reason warri and its environ are suffering from annual flooding. He therefore, urged landlords of whose buildings are marked to immediately correct the error before government come back for operation bulldoze illegal structures in a week time.

Meanwhile, the team was also at Igbudu Market, where it was discovered that the canal which is supposed take water from the area into warri River was blocked by refuse illegally dumped by unknown persons.

When contacted, the member representing Delta south in the Waste management board, Hon. Mofe Edema said that Igbudu market have two PSP covering it and was surprised to hear that people are patronizing cart pushers.

In his reaction, Chief Efe Ukwuwhere, the secretary general of Igbudu community said that the only medium of disposing the waste generated by the traders are through cart pushers as PSP has since ceased to attend to them. The secretary general also called on the government and well meaning individuals of Warri South to help provide toilets in the market as the market lacks toilet amenities.
