DO YOU KNOW IJAW POLITICIANS ? By Asiayei Enaibo

DO YOU KNOW IJAW POLITICIANS ?
By Asiayei Enaibo

Yes, they are great politicians in Ijawland, many have groomed followers with the gospel of hatred, those who managed our poverties with one salary divided
to seven. Those that only wants to see you  serve their children and take over from them while their  servants service their grandchildren and in-laws.

DO YOU KNOW IJAW POLITICIANS?

Yes, we have great and eloquent Ijaw politicians that make or support a bill once in four years and give us cups of rice at the end of the year and we called them Messiahs. Are they messiahs or cups of rice and anti-development politicians? The last time I saw my village children sent as delegate from their families to collect cups of rice tied in a cellophine, as the children too were happy and angry, but they could not say a word, for they do not know what good governance is all about.

We have politicians only in election period as our youths including myself praise them for survival to manage our collective poverty as we clap for their third or sixth term coming!

Ijaws are blessed with great mines as politician that never brief us on constituency development for four years or twenty years. Once you make such comments, they will hire community based boys from your area to disarm your pen and break your legs in a ghastly Keke accident when their convoy is coming.

From the Senate down to house of Representatives, to House of Assembly
the lawmakers, their oversight function is to gather enemies, a list of stubborn boys they could starve for objective criticism, blacklist, even though you have community base policy ideas to show them for them to excel in their business of politics, they will refuse you to come near their homes,  locked with iron Gates and Dogs to attack the Talking Drum.

Empowerment, zero percent, once you say something about empowerment, they will go and snap photos at the sales points of Keke and Okada to show us photos that they did empowerment at Abuja, while the people in the villages  they are representing have no idea of such empowerment.

DO YOU KNOW ANY IJAW POLITICIANS?

Yes, those who have not said anything as a matter of an urgent public importance even though flood kills all the children at Bobougbene, yes those that don't listen to the youths but listened to old ones on money sharing formula in Burutu.

DO YOU KNOW ANY IJAW POLITICIANS?

Yes, the few good ones are good but the corrupt familitocracy are more than the public interest. Once they give our children one scholarship, they said it is my personal money, when they were not elected, non has personal money to share. They turn our head against us.

They have never called for a town hall meeting to address us. Once we make such comments, those who called themselves as Ijaw Watchdogs that they have given cups of rice are blindfolded to distract the meeting for their own interests not to allow the meeting expose their selfish, un-political thinking. They said they have influenced project to us, the last time I checked, the lawmakers are the same contractors, their grandfathers father's name are the contractors, they partner as elder brother to corruption whose senior sister is to embezzle the money and abandoned the work while they give her negotiated amount to run away. For they are the Messiahs we have as politicians in Nigerian.

I do blame the good ones that are afraid of bad ones not to contest to rule us with great ideas, innovative laws that can project our rural riverine areas to a tourist centres. We have great mind in Ijawland, the old good ones are poor, the Young good ones are poor, they can't buy vote, for our society sells vote to buy poverty. For some have already exchanged their franchise for twenty piece of rice cup come 2023.

Look at them, we have Urban development commission everywhere, but no riverine rural development board and nobody is saying anything. They gather and only laugh with their colleagues, no policy, Where is great Comrade Joseph Evah, who has done this to us?

HOW DO WE REFORM THEM NOW?

First, we should hold them accountable with a blue print whenever they are coming to our communities for campaign, itemize what they can do for us in a black and white paper and use Egbesu to swear, once they failed us, let  what happened to Abacha happen to them. Amen!

Let us hold them to brief us in a town hall meeting what they could bring to our communities in a yearly budget. If they failed, we go to their national office with a placards as a vote of no confidence to withdraw our mandate in protests. Yes, we can.

Yes, it is a good point, we do not have light, no politicians care in our area, we don't have drinkable waters in Ijaw area, no elected politicians care, we don't have good schools, the appointees are afraid to tell the Governor.

We don't have road, they said our places are difficult terrain.

Our mothers gave birth in the canoes while paddling to the cities to deliver in the hospitals, then we called such children names with "Arukazi"

2023 is around the corner, they hire all the 200HP Engine boats to go to the difficult terrains to buy votes, the good, the ugly and the evils, many have listed the stubborn boys to beat the writers, many have planned hired boys for rigging, then vote buying, four years equal to two thousand naira, ten thousand  naira for the future of a whole family. I blamed our mothers and women with political Asoebi clapping for five hundred naira on daily bases at the end no empowerment. Eyorotuooo.

DO YOU HAVE GREAT POLITICIANS IN IJAWLAND?

Yes, one half bridge as a legacy project for twenty years, they are the best coming again. Let us prepare to buy 'Ongu', that ancient water reservoir and cry into it to full it with tears so we could have water to drink.

Arise youth of conscience, let us watch over our future as 2023 comes around.

Some have already listed lists of my father's enemy once he becomes a Governor, they will suffer, a premeditated plan to suffer the masses as if they are God.

Good leadership is a manifestation of public development.

Look around you and where you are representing, don't allow your praise singers to deceive you as Darkness and Light are known to humanity at all level.

Delta 2023 is ljaw Turn to Produce the next Governor, says Ozobo

Delta 2023 is ljaw Turn to Produce the next Governor, says Ozobo

..... Urhobo should wait till 2031 to produce the next governor

By Timi Black
Chief Correspondent

Niger Delta foremost activist and national president Ijaw People's Development Initiative IPDI, has stated that it will only be fair that the gentleman rotational agreement, if it exists, begins with Delta Ijaws, now that all the major tribes, except Ijaw, have gotten their fair shares.

The popular activist cum politician maintained that among the three major tribes in Delta State, Uhrobo, Delta Ibo, Ijaw and Itsekiri, it is only Ijaw that is yet to produce governor in the state, noting that it will be inimical for anybody to argue 2023 governorship with the Ijaws in Delta State.

Ozobo added that Urhobo who had produced several governors both in military and civilian governments in the state should support Ijaw to produce the next governor in the state come 2023.

The Ijaw leader argued that since the purported gentleman rotational agreement had been benefitted by all major tribes, except Ijaw, let Ijaw man have his fair share come 2023.

The statement reads: "Even if it is by senatorial basis, since the first Osusu began with Delta central, it can't begin with Delta Central again. Let it begins with Delta South, then it will proceed to Delta Central and Delta North respectively.

"If truly labourer deserves wages, let Ijaw man have his wages of his labour for labouring politically over the years."

The Niger Delta popular advocate reiterated that Urhobo should wait till 2031 to produce the next governor.

He further adduced that except Ijaw man betrayed himself, it is a divine providence for Ijaw to produce the next governor of Delta State come 2023.

Gov. Sanwo Olu Replaces Oshinusi over Dowen Students, Staff Exenoration

Dowen College: Sanwolu Replaces Oshinusi over Dowen Students, Staff Exenoration

Lagos Government Replaces Justice Ministry Official Who Exonerated Dowen College Staff, Students Over Sylvester Oromoni’s Death.

Oshinusi had in her recommendation to the police on the matter on Tuesday called for the release of the Dowen staff and students suspected to have a hand in circumstances leading to the death of Oromoni, insisting that autopsy result showed that the victim died of infection and not as a result of being physically tortured as claimed by family members.

Following growing backlash that has greeted the exoneration of some staff and five students of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, who were arrested and questioned over the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old pupil of the school, on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, Ms Adetutu Oshinusi, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice has now moved the official to another department – Directorate of Citizens Rights.

The legal advice addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department and Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola, stated that the interim and final autopsy reports issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and toxicology report of post-mortem samples established the cause of death as Septicaemia, Lobar Pneumonia with Acute Pyelonephritis, Pyomyositis of the right ankle and Acute Bacteria Pneumonia due to severe Sepsis.

Oshinusi stated further that based on the findings; there was no prima facie case of murder, involuntary manslaughter and or malicious administering of poison with intent to harm against the suspects including Favour Benjamin (16), Micheal Kashamu (15), Edward Begue (16), Ansel Temile (14) and Kenneth Inyang (15).

“To hold otherwise would amount to sniffing for an offence and a speculative act which is not permitted in law. It is trite law that suspicion no matter how grave cannot be a ground for conviction,” part of the advice read.

But after the victim’s family rejected the verdict of the DPP and insisted on a coroner inquest through their lawyer, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the Lagos State Government apart from acceding to that request also quickly replaced Oshinusi in a desperate attempt not to appear partisan.

A new Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Babajide Martins, who was Head, Office of the Public Defender, has since been named by the state government as confirmed by a memo signed by Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the state, Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey.

However, reacting to the legal advice by Oshinusi in a statement on Tuesday, Falana had said that her position did not put to rest allegations of murder levelled against the suspects.

He said, “However, the report has not laid the allegations surrounding the gruesome murder of Sylvester Oromoni to rest.

“The report is escapist and hasty as the authorities are aware of the fact that the Chief Coroner of Lagos State has ordered that an inquest be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the unnatural death of Sylvester Oromoni.

“The inquest which commenced before the Coroner on December 16, 2021 has been adjourned to January 15, 2022 for further hearing.”

Also reacting to the exoneration of the Dowen College staff and students, a handful of groups across Nigeria have continued to demand for justice, warning the Lagos Government and police not to compromise but ensure those responsible for Oromoni’s death were punished.

For instance, on Thursday, members of the Ijaw Youth Council staged a protest in front of Dowen College in Lagos, insisting that the school could not resume like others when justice was yet to be served on the matter.

The group condemned the legal advice issued by Oshinusi.

“We are expressing our anger and grievances with the fake and corrupt report released by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution that this school where cultists are being trained is cleared. They cleared the same people that killed our son without trial, without concluded investigation; they said they cleared this school to open.

“If they open this school, the whole Ijaw nation will come here, let them try it and see.

“Our son cannot die and their children will walk in here, it's not possible, we want justice, justice is not done served,” one of the group’s leaders said.

According to the students union, there were frantic efforts by powerful individuals to ensure the reopening of Dowen College without regard to the weight of the allegation against students and teachers of the school over the death of Oromoni.

NANS warned the Lagos State Government to ensure the college remained closed, threatening to not only tag the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, an enemy of humanity but to also “mobilise all our armless battalion to the streets of Lagos and march in our thousands to seek for adequate justice for slain Sylvester if the school is re-opened anytime soon”.

Succumbing to multiple internal injuries allegedly sustained from being tortured and bullied by senior pupils at Dowen College, Oromoni’s death in December 2021 has continued to raise dust across and beyond Nigeria with calls for justice growing by the day.

Despite attempts by some influential persons to have the matter swept under the carpet, the noise generated by his death has refused to settle, instead gathering momentum at every turn.

Observers believe that the coroner inquest beginning on January 15 will lead to fresh direction towards justice for late Sylvester Oromoni jnr.

2023 Presidency: Jonathan Denies Rumor of Nursing Presidential Ambition_Eze

2023 Presidency: Jonathan Denies Rumor of Nursing Presidential Ambition_Eze

The spokesperson to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ikechukwu Eze has debunked rumours that his principal is putting structures in place to contest the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.
He also ruled out the possibility of Jonathan defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

The media aide went further to explain that the recent meetings between his boss and President Muhammadu Buhari have no political implication linked with the 2023 presidency or a planned defection to the APC.

Eze made the series of denials as rumours continue to gather and spread about Jonathan’s alleged ambition to succeed Buhari in 2023 amidst clamours for a southern presidency.

Recalls only recently, a poster emerged online further fueling speculations that former President Goodluck Jonathan is interested in contesting the 2023 presidency.

The poster was tagged “GEJ Is Coming Back” and according to details on it, the poster is sponsored by a group identified as the National Agenda For Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The campaign poster has a picture of Jonathan and signs off with a slogan that says “coalition for a better Nigeria 2023.”

But when contacted on the issues, Jonathan’s spokesperson, Eze who was initially reluctant to speak on the rumours as he said they have become recurring questions said there is no truth in the speculations.

He submitted that Jonathan met Buhari on Thursday to brief the President in his capacity as the special envoy of the Economic Community For West African States (ECOWAS) on political developments in Mali.

The media aide also denied a meeting between Jonathan and some political campaign coordinators targeted at working out moves for his 2023 presidential ambition.

“Everything they are saying is speculation,” Punch quoted him to have said.

He added, “Defection issue and presidential ambition are all rumours. It has no foundation. We do not want to be reacting to such (things) again. We have issued statements on this before.

“Former President Jonathan went to the Villa to brief the President on the forthcoming ECOWAS meeting in Ghana. The meeting will discuss the political happenings in Mali. So, as a special envoy, he was at the Presidential Villa to brief President Buhari.

“There are issues in Mali and at the forthcoming meeting, ECOWAS leaders are to look at the transition timetable proposed by the Malian rulers and take a position on it. It is also at this meeting that a decision would be taken on whether to sanction the Malian military ruler or not. This is the issue that took oga (Jonathan) to the villa.”

OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR OKOWA OVER ABSOLUTE POOR FUNDING OF AYAKOROMO BRIDGE PROJECT

Your Excellency, Senator, Ifeanyi Author Okowa,
The executive governor of
Delta state.

Sir,

I write with pains and tears looking at the sorrowful state of infrastructural development among Delta Ijaw communities, coupled with the famous Ayakoromo bridge project that has been starved with fund.

I have come to find out that despite Ijaws were not opposition to your government, they are being treated as opposition. The real opposition to your ascending to the seat of governor are now riding horses in your government, it is ironical.

Sir, don't easily forget that one good turn deserve another. Don't also forget that the Delta Ijaws put their best in making sure you proceed to power uninterrupted in two consecutive times. I felt you are grateful about these gestures. But starving Ayakoromo bridge, the only capital project in the whole of Burutu Local Government Area with fund doe not really tell well about your acclaimed love for Ijaw people.

I write today to disabuse your mind of all misinformation and disinformation you may have been told about the Ayakoromo bridge. The Ayakoromo bridge , like Bomadi bridge will open up the whole of Burutu LGA and connect it to Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs. It has too many economic importance, which are visible to even the blind to see. I do not know your perceptions about Ayakoromo bridge but whatever your conceptualisation, it is my candid advice that the implications of not completing Ayakoromo bridge before leaving office are always greater.

Your Excellency, this is a clarion call. You know I am not a praise singer and will never be one. I am sincerely begging you to complete the Ayakoromo bridge before the end of your second tenure being a legacy project, even though you do not like my Ijaw people. You established four state Universities and none was sited in the Ijaw local government areas. To the best of my knowledge, these universities are to be funded with the crude oil proceeds from the Ijaw communities which you detested so much.

It is unfortunate that my Ijaw leaders are very very comfortable about it as no one comes out to draw your
attention. Sir, do not consider the quietness of the few Ijaw leaders who are privileged to enjoy the Delta state treasury with you as general perception or view of the entire Delta Ijaws. There is a growing silence and anger against you and you have to make amend by correcting some of the ill-treatments during your two tenure administration with Ijaw son as deputy governor.
Among the Ijaws, Chief  Mulade Sheriff is among the few Ijaw activists who have cried out against the injustice meted for Ijaw people in your administration in Delta state.

My dear intelligent and and eloquent governor, you may consider me as ethnocentric. If you were in my situation, you will write more than this. Remember that I do not fall from a branch of a tree. I am a full blooded Ijaw man who suffers amidst so much wealth in my domain.

Sir, during my University days at Delta state University, Abraka, I spent so much resources to acquire a University education from the far mangrove creeks of Delta state. Transportation from my village to Abraka too takes almost N10,000.  Why not be magnanimous enough to at least give one University to the Ijaws out of the four Universities you established during your tenure? It is not too late as the laws can be reviewed and amended to consider my Ijaw people with one University or better still send  another fresh bill of the  5th University establishment to the Delta state house of Assembly for them to debate the allocation of state University campus in Delta Ijaw community.

Sir, this photo is not a file photo from the internet. I went to Ayakoromo through Okwagbe route in boat to attend a crucial  family meeting on the 7th January, 2022. When I saw the abandoned bridge, I asked the boat driver to slow down to enable me snap this image today at 2pm to show Governor Okowa and the world to know the abandoned bridge project.

Your Excellency, it is my strong appeal that fund be timely release for the contractor on site to expedite the completion of the Ayakoromo bridge project before the end of your tenure 2023, and I equally beg that you make more efforts to spread more developmental in the Ijaw riverine communities in the state.

May God bless you as you hear my outcry. While I pray for you to finish strong, I urge you to reach out to areas and people of key importance to your two time victories that have been left behind in all ramifications.

Thank you and Godbless.

Yours Cletus Opukeme,
(Activist/Journalist)

I won’t bury my son even if it takes 30 years to get justice – Sylvester’s dad

I won’t bury my son even if it takes 30 years to get justice – Sylvester’s dad

..... No evidence Sylvester was tortured, bullied – Lagos CP

Sylvester Oromoni, the father of the late 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, has restated the family’s commitment to get justice, saying that he would not bury his son even if it takes 30 years to get justice.

He also kicked against the report of the autopsy carried out at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, alleging that there was foul play.

Sylvester’s death went viral following a social media post by his cousin, Perry Oromoni, who alleged that some senior pupils of the school beat him up in his hostel because he refused to join a cult.

The school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of leg pains following an injury he sustained while playing football.

The state government ordered the indefinite closure of the school pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.

Five students and five employees of the school were arrested by the police but legal advice by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Adetutu Oshinusi, cleared the suspects.

The autopsy carried out by a consultant pathologist at the Central Hospital Warri, Clement Vhriterhire, revealed that Sylvester died of “acute lung injury due to chemical intoxication in a background of blunt force trauma.”

But the interim and final autopsy report by LASUTH attributed the cause of death to “Septicaemia, lobar pneumonia with acute pyelonephritis and pyomyositis of the right ankle.”

However, the outgoing Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu, on Friday said the toxicology report of the first autopsy carried out in Warri was released on December 30, 2021, signed by Vhriterhire, attributing cause of death to “acute bacteria pneumonia due to severe sepsis.”

Sylvester Snr and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, had kicked against the DPP’s advice with the latter describing the report as “escapist and hasty.”

Falana had said, “The report has not laid to rest the allegations surrounding the gruesome murder of Sylvester Oromoni. The report is escapist and hasty as the authorities are aware of the fact that the Chief Coroner of Lagos State has ordered that an inquest be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the unnatural death of Sylvester Oromoni. The inquest, which commenced before the coroner on December 16, 2021, has been adjourned till January 15, 2022 for further hearing.”

Speaking to our correspondent on Friday the father said the case had yet to have a closure, insisting that his son would not be buried until “justice is served” even if it took as long as 30 years.

He said, “The family does not have power. We only rely on God. If they insist that the school will reopen, there is no problem. If God keeps me for 20 or 30 years, I will follow up this case. Government will come, the government will go. I am not bothered. The soul of that boy is crying round. God is alive; He cannot be bribed.

“My son will never be buried. If it takes me 30 years to get justice, he would remain there (in the mortuary). He is my son; I won’t bury him. Nigerians should look beyond what they are saying.”

Asked if he had any doubt over the autopsy released by the state government, he retorted “Do they have any autopsy report? They don’t have any. The doctor that did the autopsy in Delta State was recommended by the Area Commander. He is not the family doctor. We don’t know him. Our lawyer applied to the Area Command to get a copy of the autopsy.”

But Odumosu, during a press briefing held at the police headquarters in Ikeja on Friday and tagged ‘Sylvester Oromoni Jnr: Update on Investigation,’ dismissed any foul play.

He said eight persons–five pupils and three house masters – were arrested following a petition to the police on the matter, adding that on December 9, 2021, he interviewed the late pupil’s family, the school management, and witnesses at the command’s headquarters.

He said, “During the open interview, it was unanimously agreed that another autopsy should be carried out where pathologists from all parties would be present. Investigation was extended to Delta State and Abuja. I will like to state here that investigation revealed that the same case was reported at the Area Command Warri, Delta State, on December 1, 2021.

“It has also been established that a post mortem examination was initially carried out on December 2, 2021 by a Consultant Pathologist, Dr. Clement Vhriterhire of the Central Hospital, Warri, Delta State. The result of the first autopsy dated December 10, 2021 attributed the cause of death to ‘acute lung injury due to chemical intoxication in a background of blunt force trauma.’

“However, toxicology screening was recommended and also carried out. While waiting for the result of the toxicology, another autopsy was ordered by the Coroner Magistrate in Lagos because of the status of jurisdiction. The corpse was, therefore, moved with armed police escorts from Delta State to Lagos State by TOS Funeral and the autopsy conducted at the expense of the Lagos State Government.

The second autopsy was carried out at the Lagos state University Teaching Hospital on December 14, 2021 in the presence of representatives of all the parties involved in the case.”

The CP said the second autopsy was carried out by the Consultant Pathologist and Chief Examiner, Department of Pathology and Forensic Sciences, LASUTH, Dr. S.S Soyemi, witnessed by representatives of all the parties, including Vhriterhire, as well as police officers, among other principal officials.

Odumosu said the final results of the post mortem and toxicology examination conducted at Delta and Lagos states agreed that the deceased died a natural death.

He stated, “Before the expiration of the 21 days remand order, the families of the students applied for their bail at the Magistrates’ Court 1 Yaba. The application was approved hence the students who were earlier remanded at Boys Home, Oregun, were granted bail. The house masters were also granted bail after the expiration of the 21 days remand order.

“The result of the second autopsy carried out in Lagos was released on December 21, 2021. The result attributed the cause of death to ‘Septicaemia, lobar pneumonia with acute pyelonephritis and pyomyositis of the right ankle.’ On December 30, 2021, the toxicology screening results of the first autopsy carried out in Warri was released. The result issued and signed by Dr Clement Vhriterhire, the same doctor who carried out the initial autopsy, attributed the cause of death to ‘acute bacteria pneumonia due to severe sepsis.’

“At the end of diligent investigation carried out so far, there is no evidence to establish a case of torture, bullying and forceful application of poisonous substance against the suspects. All the suspects denied the allegations of torture, bullying and administering of poisonous substance to the deceased. Allegation that the deceased was being forced to join a cult group was also not established as other students interviewed denied this.”

Oldest Surviving World War II Veteran, Lawrence Brooks Dies at Age 112

Oldest Surviving World War II Veteran, Lawrence Brooks Dies at Age 112

Lawrence Brooks, the oldest surviving World War II veteran, who served in a segregated Army unit in the South Pacific in the 1940s has died.

He died in his New Orleans home Wednesday morning, January 5, at the age of 112.

While in service, Lawrence N. Brooks was part of the mostly black 91st Engineer General Service Regiment, which built roads, hospitals and housing in places like Horn Island, Papua-New Guinea and the Philippines, according to Military Times.

He was drafted in 1940 at the age of 31. Even though he never saw combat, he worked as a driver and cook for his white officers. Most African Americans serving in the segregated US armed forces at the beginning of World War II were assigned to noncombat units and relegated to service duties, such as supply, maintenance and transportation, said Col. Pete Crean, vice president of education and access at the museum in New Orleans.

‘The reason for that was outright racism – there’s no other way to characterize it,’ Crean added.

The National WWII Museum announced his death and it was confirmed by his daughter and caregiver, Vanessa Brooks. He is survived by five children, 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

‘At 112 years old, he was the oldest surviving WWII veteran in the country,’ the museum wrote on Instagram.

‘More than that, he was a dear friend, who celebrated his birthday with us every year starting in 2014, when he was just a spry 105-year-old.

‘His consistent advice when asked for the secret behind his longevity was, “Serve God, and be nice to people.”‘

US president, Joe Biden also tweeted a tribute to Brooks, writing;

‘I had the honor of speaking with him last year, and he was truly the best of America. I’m keeping his loved ones in my prayers.’

Nigerians Reacted As Jonathan 2023 Presidential Campaign Poster Surfaces Online

Nigerians on social media have reacted to a poster with the inscription “GEJ Is Coming Back” which suggests the ambition of former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest for presidency in the 2023 elections.

The poster done by a faceless group known as the National Agenda for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. It claimed it aimed for a better Nigeria come 2023.

However, this has been greeted with mixed reactions from citizens with many condemning Jonathan’s ambition.

This was even after the Instagram blog, mufasatundeednut, queried if Nigeria was going backwards or forward.

In her reaction, popular actress, Nkechi Blessing said she would vote for Jonathan if he chooses to run. She wrote, “I will over vote for him sef.”

Another Instagram user, @popcorrnn._ wrote, “Yesss oh, he should please come back. He had a far better government than Buhari, & it took for him to go for us to realize it, he should please come back.”

For @_james_oluwa, it is better to vote for Jonathan than any other candidate. He wrote, “It’s better to vote for him than any other candidate!! The Angel you know before is better than the one u just meet.”

However, others have shown a contrary opinion saying the former President would simply dent his image if he ran for the presidency again.

One of such users is @icobenson who said, “He will fail woefully, he didn’t maximize the opportunity given to him initially, so what does he have to offer this time absolutely NOTHING we need a fresh start. Soro Soke.”

shoes_by_shem opined: “This would be the most foolish move for him.”

Another user el_patron_wanz stated, “Dem wan package backwardness make e be like forwardness give us.”

Ijaw Youths Protest ln Lagos Over Denial of Justice on Oromoni's Death

Ijaw Youths Protest ln  Lagos Over Denial of Justice on Oromoni's Death

.... If Dowen College Opens on Monday, Expect Ijaw Nation Here-; Niger Delta Youths

The Ijaw Youth Council has insisted on getting justice for Sylvester Oromoni, the 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos State who was allegedly bullied to death at the school.

Members of the council, on Thursday 6, staged a protest in front of the school saying the school could not resume like others when justice was yet to be served.

The late Sylvester is from the Ijaw-speaking tribe in Delta State.

The IYC condemned the legal advice issued by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Adetutu Osinusi, clearing staff and students of Dowen College of complicity in the death of the young man.

Recall that on Tuesday, Osinusi issued a legal advice which stated that police investigation and the two autopsies conducted on the body of the deceased failed to establish a prima facie case against the suspects — five students and five staff of the college.

According to the Legal Advice, the interim and final autopsy reports issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and toxicology report of post-mortem samples established the cause of death as Septicaemia, Lobar Pneumonia with Acute Pyelonephritis, Pyomyositis of the right ankle and Acute Bacteria Pneumonia due to severe Sepsis.

But reacting, the IYC leaders said any attempt to open the school would be strongly resisted while promising to invade the school with their school bags and food flasks.

One of their leaders said, “We are here today to express our anger and grievances with the fake and corrupt report released by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution that this school where cultists are being trained is cleared. They cleared the same people that killed our son without trial, without concluded investigation; they said they cleared this school to open.

“If they open this school, the whole Ijaw nation will come here, let them try it and see, if they open this school on Monday, the whole Ijaw nation will come, we will come with our school bags, feeding bottles and join them here. Let them bring armoured tanks here, we have the capacity.

Revealed 2023: Buhari Shops for Ex-President Jonathan to Succeed him, Shuns Tinubu, Osinbajo's Ambition

Revealed 2023: Buhari Shops for Ex-President Jonathan to Succeed him, Shuns Tinubu, Osinbajo's Ambition

President Buhari, it was reliably gathered, has in fact reached out to his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, on taking over power from him and was already working with some of his most trusted lieutenants to actualise this plan.

Against widespread belief that President Muhammadu Buhari was preparing to hand over power to a former governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in May 2023 when his second term in office elapses, SaharaReporters has reliably gathered that the current occupier of Aso Rock Villa, Nigeria’s seat of power, was already looking in another direction.

President Buhari, it was reliably gathered, has in fact reached out to his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, on taking over power from him and was already working with some of his most trusted lieutenants to actualise this plan.

A trusted source around the President told SaharaReporters that the idea had already received the backing of some prominent politicians from the North including state governors as the arrangement will enable power to return to the region in 2027 when Jonathan would have served out his single four-year term after previously occupying same position from 2011 to 2015.

President Buhari and Jonathan had met last Thursday and according to the source, modalities of this new arrangement were discussed at length with further meetings to take place in the coming weeks to cement plans to help achieve the target.

“Pressure came from two Northern governors for President Buhari to allow Jonathan to complete his term and return power to the North for another eight years beginning from 2027,” the source revealed.

“It is for this reason that Buhari had requested Jonathan to see him last Thursday following conclusion of discussion with the two governors, one of which is Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and APC Caretaker Committee Chairman.

“This same Buni worked against Tinubu's interest in the electoral act to ensure Buhari did not sign it.

“Tinubu had hoped to ward off challenge from Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi and others to get the APC presidential ticket through direct primaries.

“Buni is also working to organise national convention to create substantive national executives, all a ploy to ensure a Jonathan candidate.

“He's masterminding a likely micro-zoning to the South-South to ensure Jonathan is the sole aspirant during the primary.

“Following the successful meeting on Thursday with Buhari, Jonathan has also moved swiftly to hold a strategic meeting with South-South ministers and will hold a national ministers' meeting under his government afterwards as a prequel to formal declaration.

“The meeting which held under the South-South 2023 Presidency group headed by Jonathan's associate, Mr Dikivie Ikiogha, took place at Mrs Patience Jonathan's Aridolf Hotels and Spars.

“If the plan goes well, Jonathan will choose a serving Northern governor as running mate. The most likely candidate for that will be Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State,” the source revealed.

The latest development will surely come as a huge blow to the aspirations of Tinubu, who has been desperate to become President of Nigeria since serving two terms as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

The APC stalwart has been romancing President Buhari since helping him to defeat Jonathan in 2015, refusing to criticise his administration’s failures in a desperate bid to have the latter hand over the reins to him during next year’s election.

However, top power brokers close to Buhari see the former Lagos governor as politically unpredictable and therefore have been working against his interest.

But to help push through his ambition, Tinubu and his men have created scores of groups to mobilise support to help make the dream a reality.

For instance, in October 2021, the South West Agenda for Asiwaju was formed in Lagos to help sell Tinubu as a viable candidate to every part of Nigeria.

Headed by a former Minister of State for Works, Dayo Adeyeye, SWAGA said emerging President of Nigeria in 2023 will be the best way to repay Tinubu for all his contributions to political development in the country.

In November 2021, another group, Patriots of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was established in Abuja to further push the former Lagos governor’s ambition of succeeding President Buhari in office in 2023.

On January 1, 2022,  Director-General, Tinubu Support Groups Mgt. Council, Abdulmumin Jibrin, said the former Lagos governor will contest the 2023 election because he had more experience to run Nigeria than the others eyeing the position.

“The issue of Bola Tinubu contesting is a done deal. He is going to contest the election; he’s going to be on the ballot paper.

“The person who has an edge over all of them, that we can hand over the ticket to and perhaps go back home and sleep, is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” Jibrin said.

In December 2021, Tinubu disclosed that he would consult widely before making a decision on whether to run for the Presidency or not.

“I will effectively and widely consult, particularly brainstorm with my friends and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians,” he had said at the time.

Like Tinubu, there are dozens of other groups also currently drumming support for Osinbajo ahead of the 2023 election.

According to one of such groups, The Progressive Project, the Vice President had all it required to effectively run Nigeria after Buhari leaves office next year.

TPP’s Director of Operations, Alhaji Usman A. Usman, said, “We made critical assessments far beyond mere partisan considerations and all rational indicators throw up the name of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as being most qualified and most adequately prepared to undertake such assignment.”

But despite these ongoing efforts by loyalists of Tinubu and Osinbajo to market their principals, Buhari’s new stance might have thrown both men under the wheel.

Though Buhari’s new choice – Jonathan – has continued to distance himself from talks of his return to Aso Rock Villa in 2023, events of recent times strongly supports the notion of him taking over from the incumbent – an outcome that greatly benefits Buhari’s nepotistic agenda of returning power to the North in 2027.

Bizarre As Kenyan Woman Sets Self, Three Children Ablaze Over Husband’s Infidelity

Bizarre As Kenyan Woman Sets Self, Three Children Ablaze Over Husband’s Infidelity

A Kenyan woman, Helen Vuyanzi, 35, set herself and her three children on fire following a disagreement with her husband in Sirende village, Lugari sub-county, Kakamega.

While she and two of the children died, her third child survived the fire after jumping out of the house through a window.

According to Kenya’s The Star, reported that the incident happened on Saturday. The daily reported that Vuyanzi had quarrelled with her husband and they were counselled by police officers led by Lugari subcounty commander Bernard Ngungu, before returning home but without her husband, to avoid further problems.

Vuyanzi had accused her husband of cheating after she learnt he was dating another woman, the police boss said.
