2023: Wike Mocks Atiku Over Protest At INEC Office, unfolds why he fails at the poll

2023: Wike Mocks Atiku Over Protest At INEC Office, unfolds why he fails at the poll

PortHarcourt____ Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Monday took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who led leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on a demonstration at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protest the outcome of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election.

Wike, who spoke at the commissioning of Chokocho-Igbodo Road in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, said he warned the leadership of the party over its insistence that northerners hold onto the presidential ticket and national chairmanship seat of the party.
“While other people are demonstrating, I am commissioning projects. I have not gone to do demonstration; my own is to commission projects and make my people happy,” Wike said.

The Rivers governor also commended the people for voting a southern President in the just-concluded elections.

According to him, Section 7(3)(c) of the PDP constitution recognised zoning and rotational presidency but the leadership of the party contravened the provisions of the party’s regulations.

“I owe nobody any apology at all. I am one of the apostles, one of those who stood firm that power must rotate to the South. This is for equity, this is for fairness and this is for justice.

“Whether you voted for Labour, I have no problem with you. Whether you voted for APC, I have no problem with you. That is what we have argued for: that the north has had it for eight years. Therefore the south must be there for eight years,” he said.

For months before the elections, Wike and four other PDP governors known as the G5 demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, saying northerners should not be the PDP national chairman and presidential candidate.

Both Atiku and Ayu called the governors’ bluff and did not succumb to their demands in the just-concluded elections.

For the presidential election, Atiku lost in all the G5 states while Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi won Enugu and Abia, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) raked in Oyo, Benue and Rivers.

INEC subsequently declared Tinubu as President-Elect after he came out tops in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states, and secured significant numbers in several other states to claim the highest number of votes — 8,794,726, almost two million votes more than his closest rival — Atiku.

Atiku, 76, who has now run for president six times, got 6,984,520 votes, while Obi, who, in less than a year, galvanised young voters in a manner some have described as unprecedented finished the race with 6,101,533.

Both Obi and Atiku said the election was flawed and will be challenged in court. They faulted INEC for not uploading election results from polling units electronically to the commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV), as stipulated by Section 60 of the Electoral Act 2022.

“The weekend election was neither free nor fair. Preliminary assessments indicate that it is the worst conducted elections since the return to democratic rule. The manipulation and fraud that attended this election were unprecedented in the history of our nation,” the former vice president said last Thursday.

He is a leopard that can never be changed, and a great serpent whom l can assure you that will brutally bite you more than the one he did in the past if you make the mistake of anointing him to be governor.

“His excellency, your daughter is one of numerous PDP flag bearers, how will you feel should the party be pull down and opposition becomes rulling party in the state. If this particular candidate can put you in the mess you went through few years ago as SSG , imagine what he will do should he become Governor. I can bet you that your legacy that shines like morning star across the state will be totally wiped out.

‘His excellency, SI SI KE EMA ETE ME (Ijaw word for please am appealing to you that you should not go this path of wanting to cut your nose to spite your mouth)
Always remember, PDP is your home, PDP is your family, PDP is your sweat and PDP is your legacy, reason the party’s sectariat at Oghara was named after you.

“His excellency, do not allow anger to make you to destroy what you built, whatever happened prior and during the party primaries are all family affairs which you should not allow opposition to take advantage to erase your legacy. Godbless Delta State", the statement added.

The Untold Story of How Fela Kuti Married 27 Brides on Same Day in 1978

The Untold Story of How Fela Kuti Married 27 Brides on Same Day in 1978

In 1978, the pioneer of Afrobeats, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, married 27 women in one day. This should not be strange to those who know the life and style of the Nigerian music legend nicknamed Abami Eda (strange creature).

Many of Fela’s band members became homeless after the devastating soldier attack on Fela’s commune (Kalakuta Republic) in 1977. In order to keep them together, Fela decided to do the unusual.

He gave a piece of paper to his female band members requesting the names of those that would like to marry him; the entire twenty-seven female band members put down their names.

After getting their consent, Fela Kuti married the 27 women on the 20th of February, 1978, at the Parisona Hotel in Anthony, Lagos, with the blessings of twelve Ifa priests. It was alleged that some parents of the ladies objected the marriage.
Fela married the women to protect and keep them together. The marriage ceremony was attended by Fela’s families, friends and other band members.

During the marriage ceremony, Fela rendered a short speech, pressed naira notes on his new wives’ foreheads and gave them marriage certificates. Fela embraced a rotation system of 12 wives at a time. After the marriage, Fela took his 27 wives to Ghana for honeymoon.

However, in 1986, shortly after his release from prison, Fela Kuti divorced his 27 wives on the claim that marriage brings jealousy. It should be noted that they were not forced to leave his house after the divorce; some lived with him till his death in 1997.

Unknown Gunmen Shot Dead Governor, Five Others in Philippines

Unknown Gunmen Shot Dead Governor, Five Others in Philippines

A provincial governor in the central Philippines and five other people were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday, his widow said, in the latest attack against local officials.

Local police said six suspects carrying rifles and dressed in uniforms similar to those worn by the armed services entered the governor’s home in Pamplona town and opened fire.

Roel Degamo, governor of Negros Oriental province, and five others were killed in the shooting, his widow said.

“Governor Degamo did not deserve that kind of death. He was serving his constituents on a Saturday,” Janice Degamo, who is also the mayor of Pamplona, said in a video posted on Facebook.

President Ferdinand Marcos condemned what he described as the “assassination” of his political ally and warned the perpetrators to “surrender now it will be your best option”.

“My government will not rest until we have brought the perpetrators of this dastardly and heinous crime to justice,” Marcos added.

The condition of four other people who were shot in the incident was not disclosed.

The politician was distributing aid to constituents when he was shot, provincial police spokesman Kym Lopez told AFP.

Police said they were searching for 10 suspects, including the six gunmen, who fled the scene in two SUVs and a pickup truck before abandoning the vehicles in a nearby city.
Degamo, 56, is the latest target in the Philippines’ long history of attacks on politicians, and at least the third to be shot since last year’s local elections.

The Supreme Court last month declared him the rightful winner of the contest for the Negros Oriental governorship following a recount that unseated his local rival, who had previously been proclaimed the victor.

Degamo had also campaigned for Marcos in his own candidacy for president last year.

Mamintal Adiong, governor of the southern province of Lanao del Sur, was shot and wounded in February in an attack that killed his driver and three police escorts.

That same month, the vice-mayor of the northern town of Aparri, Rommel Alameda, and five other people who were travelling with him were shot dead in a highway ambush.

In the bloodiest politically motivated ambush on record, the leaders of a powerful southern clan and about two dozen followers were sentenced to life in prison for a 2009 attack on supporters of a gubernatorial election rival in Maguindanao province.

The attack left 58 people dead, including the politician’s wife and relatives, along with 32 journalists and media workers who were covering the race.

Deposit Banks in Nigeria resume receipt of old N500 and N1000 notes

Deposit Banks in Nigeria resume receipt of old N500 and N1000 notes

Investigation has revealed that Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Nigeria have resumed the receipt of old N500 and N1000 notes.

According to reports, the banks started receiving these notes at the beginning of this week.

A bank official disclosed to Vanguard in Abuja on Wednesday that customers could now deposit any amount below N500,000. To do so, they must download the appropriate form from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) portal, from where a code would be allocated for the deposit.

It has been learned that individuals holding the affected old notes could deposit them in their bank accounts until April 10. The decision was made by the CBN in a bid to prevent holders of the old notes from losing their money.
Just two weeks ago, there was confusion surrounding the fate of those who held the affected notes in their possession. The CBN had initially extended the deadline for the circulation of the old notes from January 31 to February 10, stating that it would continue to receive them between February 10 and 17 after they had ceased to be legal tender.

However, some holders of the notes were turned away when they tried to deposit them at the apex bank. The CBN later clarified that individuals with less than N500,000 should take such monies to their banks, but some banks refused to accept them.

On February 21, the CBN issued a statement denying reports that it had directed DMBs to receive old N500 and N1000 notes from their customers. Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, who retired as Director, Corporate Communications of CBN last week, clarified that only old N200 notes had been directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to be reissued, and the CBN would stick to that directive.

Delta 2023: CEPEJ With INEC, Party Candidates Sign Peace Accord

Delta 2023: CEPEJ With INEC, Party Candidates Sign Peace Accord

Asaba____ Political parties and their candidates in Delta State on Tuesday 15th February, 2023, signed a peace accord to be of good behaviour in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

The peace accord was at the instance of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in collaboration with Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, and International Republican Institute, IRI, in the State.

Part of the reasons for the peace accord was to forestall violence during and after the elections, as violence had been one of the factors that had militated against credible elections in Nigeria.
To nip this in the bud and run a violence-free election, INEC, CEPEJ and IRI assembled the political parties and their candidates to make a commitment that they would play by the rules.

In addition to what the peace accord is expected to achieve, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta State, Reverend Monday Udoh Tom said he believed that the BVAS would also give a boost to the credibility of the 2023 elections.

Other peace-oriented organizations such as CEPEJ admonished political parties to shun vote buying and selling, advising candidates and their followers to play by the rules of the game.
In an interview after the signing of the peace accord, the Executive Director of CEPEJ, Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade told journalists that the political parties showed commitment and were ready to support INEC to achieve and actualize peaceful elections devoid of violence in the State.

He said “from the interactions and discussions, we can see that they are committed to the peace process. Since the campaigns began, you can see some level of peace in Delta State. The peace accord is like a constitution, so they must abide by it. It is a binding document on them.”
Comrade Sheriff Mulade said as a peace advocate with his organization championing peace in the Niger Delta Region, CEPEJ in partnership with IRI, an America-based election monitoring body, would collaborate with INEC to actualise peace during the elections. He said the peace accord was not limited to Delta State but signed across the nation.

According to Mulade, “the essence of this exercise is to have unity and understanding to build on the existing peace in the State. Prince Kelvin Pen Down Amazing Words to Celebrates Wife's Birthday

Celebrating A Virtuous Wife....

Nobody makes me smile the way you do.

I will always be your biggest supporter.

You light up my life and I’m forever grateful for you.

I don’t know what I’d do without you in my life.
I look forward to growing old together.

No one knows me like you, and no one will ever.

Love like ours is rare. I’m so glad our paths crossed on this journey called life.

You are the most thoughtful, intelligent and caring person I know.

How lucky am I to call you, my wife.

I haven’t stopped smiling from the moment our eyes met.

You deserve everything your heart desires.

You’re the sunshine on a cloudy day.
You brighten my life and I'm so blessed to have you as my forever companion.

Thank you for always showering me with your love.

Absolutely, you are the best wife.
