Warri _____ In continuation of engaging critical stakeholders to sustain the existing peace in the Niger Delta region, the administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro on Wednesday brainstormed with the mothers of Niger Delta in order to profer possible solutions in tackling youth unemployment in the region.

Otuaro, speaking during the meeting appreciated the women for turning up enmasse to contribute their ideas as critical stakeholders in sustaining peace, stability and development in the Niger Delta.

He acknowledged that women were the first casualties in the Niger Delta crisis before amnesty was declared by federal government to curbed the tension in 2009.

He however, lamented that since the inception of the amnesty program, the women were not carried along, hence the need for this stakeholders meeting to hear from them on the areas to be trained for proper empowerment.

Otuaro highlighted the progresses made so far by the amnesty office, citing that approximately 780 women have been sent to school, 1,389 women have received training, and about 1,000 women have been economically empowered. 

He stressed that women's contributions are vital to building a robust home and community, and their empowerment is essential for meaningful participation in the peace-building process, he stated.

Reacting to the development, a renowned Niger Delta human rights activist, Ankio Briggs commended Otuaro for his laudable reforms ongoing in the amnesty program.

She noted the men played a vital role in the Niger Delta struggle but the mothers paid the supreme price in protecting and safeguarding the children at home during the agitation.

The 72 years old Rivers born rights activist noted despite the sacrifices made by the women, it was unfortunate they were not recognized and carried along in the scheme of things by the men.

However, she was very pleased with the approach of Dr. Otuaro for recognizing the women for the first time since the inception of the amnesty program.

She maintained that Nigeria wouldn't have enjoyed the current peace in the country without the women of the Niger Delta region, while charging the men to show some respect to the women in the society, the statement added.

In her remark, a renowned women leader of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Triple Chief. Vero Tangbeiwei, the Eyelaere of ljaw nation also appreciated Otuaro for recognizing the women.

She admonished the women to make good use of the opportunity to express their mind with the amnesty administrator in order to be incorporated into the system.

Meanwhile, during the interactive session, Mrs. Tonbra Kasikoro thanked the amnesty coordinator for the opportunity to interface with the women. She revealed that most of the women are into agriculture, especially fish farming, while charging Otuaro to consider that area for training.

While Dr. Lulu Fubara from Bonny Island suggested partnership with state and local government to revamp craft centers to enable the women learn skills of their choice to be empowered.

She suggested that the youths in the rural areas need to be educated on computer skills so as to enable them write and pass the computer base test Jamb to further their education.

Dr. Lulu further appealed for grant to enable the women start up business to manage their homes. Finally, she urged the Coordinator to do proper rehabilitation and reintegration of the youths so as to save them from the influence of drug addicts and other social vices in the society.

While others appealed for enduring employment where they can earned monthly stipends so as to support in taking care of the home without depending on their husbands.

However, having heard from the Niger Delta women suggestions, the Amnesty Administrator, Otuaro appreciated them for the brilliant ideas generated, and promised to look into it holistically to reach out to them for proper empowerment.

Bomadi_____ The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has put all mechanisms in top gear to build a 132/33 KV Transmission Station at Kpakiama in Bomadi local government government area of Delta State to end the nightmare of electricity supply in Bomadi and environs.

The project, being influenced to the area by the executive chairman of the council area, Hon. Rawlings Dagidi Andaye, when completed will supply electricity, not only to Bomadi local government area, but to all towns and villages down to the Atlantic fringe.

Recall that, Hon. Andaye in his bid to light up Bomadi and environs by any mean possible, last month struck a deal with Tempo Energy Nigeria Ltd to install a turbine in Bomadi, who are said to be still on the process of necessary documentations with the state government when this new development set in, which is considered to be economically more viable.

However, the TCN delegation who came from Abuja, the nation's capital, on a scoping visit to the host community, Kpakiama, yesterday, affirmed the suitability of the location and acquired 300/300 feet of the proposed land at Amalasama, a hamlet belonging to the community.

Speaking after the deal, the General Manager Delta Sub-region of the TCN, Engr Chukwuemeka Kenneth, thanked the host community for what he termed unexpected support and cooperation from the people.

He said: "First of all, I want to appreciate the community for this unexpected cooperation and support given to us.

"The trip to this forrest is about scoping for 132/33 KV Kpakiama Transmission Station. What we have been able to do today is that, we have taken the coordinate of the proposed land, and with that it will enable us scope the shortest route to the source line, which is the Ughelli Delta Transmission Power Station in Ughelli North.

"So, that will enable us transverse the line down here, then link it with the existing 33 KV which is the network that is already in use. With that, the distribution being BEDC would be able to offtake whatever transmission we're stepping down here, and that's basically what we came to do today".

Potential Benefits for locals

Continuing, Engr Kenneth said: "The potential benefits of this project to the local people are amazing; there will be steady power supply because this existing line travelled as much as 50 kilometres all the way from Ughelli.

"We have what we call Transmission Losses if the line travels too far, if a particular voltage is supposed to leave a station and by the time it gets to the destination it's dissipated and you don't get what you're expecting, and with that you have so much low voltages in your houses.

"But, with this on ground here, we have succeeded in transmitting at a higher transmission voltage, which is 132 KV, that is 132, 000 volts. We have another transformer that would further step it down from the 132/33 KV and that is the one that will be distributed among the local governments.

"This project will also create employment opportunities for youths of the local government area".

Electricity my number one priority—Hon. Andaye

The Bomadi council chairman, Hon. Andaye, in his remark said: "Let me say this is a divine intervention and I want to appreciate Engr Kenneth and his team that has just done with the scoping.

"Electricity is my number one priority and we are in it together. As a council chairman for all Bomadians, I can assure my people that few months from now the issue of electricity will be a thing of the past in Bomadi local government area".

It's a welcome development—Host community

The chairman of Kpakiama Urban Community, Mr Ebiegberi Abamoh, reacting to the development thanked Hon. Andaye for the great feat in wooing the transmission company to the council area, stressing that the people of Kpakiama were proud of his developmental strides in just over two months in office.

"This is a welcome development and on behalf of the people of Kpakiama Urban Community, I say a big thank you to Hon. Dagidi Andaye and the delegates of the company. 

"As a community, we will provide the enabling environment for the project to be executed and become a huge success for the council area and environs. We will cooperate with the company, we will work together to ensure Bomadi local government area is lightened up", he said.

Warri _____ Chief Dennis Brutu Otuaro, administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), paid a visit to HRM Felix Mujakperuo, the revered Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, as part of his ongoing stakeholder engagement efforts to foster peace and security in the Niger Delta region on Tuesday in his palace in Delta State.

Otuaro briefed the monarch on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to implementing reforms and developing the region, emphasising the crucial role traditional institutions play in building sustainable peace and security.

During the meeting, Otuaro shared the achievements of his administration in the past few months, highlighting the progress made in promoting peace and development in the Niger Delta. 

The Orodje of Okpe, in turn, thanked Otuaro for recognizing the importance of traditional institutions and advised him to continue his innovative leadership to ensure the region's development and peace.

Otuaro assured that President Tinubu is dedicated to maintaining peace and security in the Niger Delta, and is not taking the current stability for granted.

The meeting emphasised the vital role traditional institutions play in building sustainable peace and security in the region.

Warri ____ The Special Adviser to the president on Niger Delta and the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro on monday met with Niger Delta traditional rulers in warri, Delta State in order to appreciate them for their support of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration as well as brief them of the ongoing reforms in the amnesty program.

Otuaro noted that the essence of the meeting was to brief the traditional rulers as a critical stakeholders of the amnesty program on the various reforms put in place by this current administration.

He stressed that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser to Mr President, Malam Nuhu Ribadu extended their greetings to Niger Delta traditional rulers for the support given to this administration.

According to Otuaro, said the meeting was an expanded Niger Delta stakeholders engagement with Traditional rulers, Opinion leaders, women groups, youth bodies, community leaders, elders and camp leaders in order to ensure peace as well as sustain the existing peace in the region.

He specially appreciated the traditional rulers for their support so far and appealed for continue support.

He noted that the amnesty program have many areas of interest, ranging from education scholarship, vocational training, grant/loan and many others.

Otuaro reiterated that the stakeholders meeting is very important because the traditional rulers and other interest groups are all critical part of the amnesty program.

He emphasized that the office is working hard in expanding the program to accommodate more people to the thirty thousand delegates already captured in the program, especially traditional rulers, women groups, elders and youth bodies from the region as impacted beneficiaries.

He further noted that the federal government is also working to mope up the Niger Delta communities in order to retrieve small fire arms from our youths and incorporate them in the amnesty program so as to sustain the existing peace in the Niger Delta region in particular, and Nigeria at large, the statement added.

In his reaction, the Pere of Akugbene Mein-Kingdom, Pere SP. Luke, the Kalanama Vlll thanked the amnesty coordinator for his laudable initiatives in reforming the amnesty program to meet the ideals of the program.

He noted they are very impressed by his reform agenda ongoing in the Amnesty program, praying God to give him the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the program to achieve its set goals.

On his part, the Ibenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom, King Joseph Timiyan Who is the Chairman Delta ljaw Traditional Rulers Council, described Dr. Dennis Otuaro as one of the best coordinators appointed by the federal government since the inception of the program.

While HRM, Justice FF Tabai, the lbenanaowei of Tuomo Kingdom adviced the amnesty coordinator to focus more on the educational sectors, especially the scholarship program so as to reform the mindset of the ex-agitators back to the society.

He appealed to the amnesty coordinator to always involve the traditional rulers in the activities of the program, promising to support him to deliver on the assignment given to him, the statement added.

Coincidentally, today happens to be the birth anniversary of the amnesty coordinator, Otuaro as the traditional rulers in their numbers wished him happy birthday with the singing of birthday song to the amazement of the celebrant.

Our attention has been drawn to false and misleading statements recently circulated by a group operating under the name Niger Delta People Stakeholders Forum (NDPSF). These baseless accusations are aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Mrs. Eyesan Oritsemyinwa, the Executive Vice President of Upstream at NNPC Limited, a highly respected and accomplished daughter of the Niger Delta.

Mrs. Oritsemyinwa has built a sterling career defined by professionalism, dedication, and an unshakable commitment to excellence. She has risen through the ranks at NNPC Limited through sheer hard work, integrity, and vast experience, making her more than deserving of her current role. The attempt by NDPSF to discredit her is an affront to her impeccable track record and the progress she has driven both within the Niger Delta and Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

It is evident that the statements made by NDPSF are intended to stir conflict, breed disunity, and create unnecessary tensions in the Niger Delta. Such malicious attacks are harmful not only to Mrs. Oritsemyinwa’s character but also to the entire region’s peace and collective progress. The Niger Delta is built on principles of unity, collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership. Attempts to derail these efforts by tarnishing the image of one of its most prominent figures are not only unacceptable but will be resisted.

Mrs. Oritsemyinwa’s extensive experience, spanning over 30 years at NNPC Limited, speaks for itself. She has held numerous key roles, including Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer, Group General Manager of Corporate Planning & Strategy, and General Manager of Planning at NAPIMS. Each position showcases her leadership and her drive to champion positive transformation within the oil and gas industry.

As the current Executive Vice President of Upstream at NNPC Limited, Mrs. Oritsemyinwa has led several groundbreaking initiatives, driving improvements in oil and gas exploration, securing critical infrastructure, and unlocking new developmental opportunities. Her work in frontier exploration, her leadership in Nigeria’s first NAG commercialization, and her efforts in securing over $10 billion in eco-friendly investments demonstrate her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy sector.

We urge the public to disregard the defamatory statements made by NDPSF and to instead recognize Mrs. Oritsemyinwa’s vast contributions to the Niger Delta, the nation, and the oil and gas industry. She is a role model and a testament to what dedication, hard work, and competence can achieve.

The Niger Delta Foundation for Leadership and Equity condemns in the strongest terms the unwarranted attacks on Mrs. Oritsemyinwa’s character. We know the individuals behind this campaign of misinformation and, in due time, their identities will be revealed.

Mrs. Oritsemyinwa remains the most senior and qualified officer in her cadre at NNPC Limited. Her record of service, experience, and accomplishments cannot be contested. We call on the President and other relevant authorities to ensure that justice prevails, as any attempt to undermine her will be met with firm resistance from the Niger Delta people.

WARRI—The executive chairman, Bomadi local government area of Delta State, Hon. Rawlings Dagidi Andaye, in collaboration with his Ughelli South counterpart, Hon. Lucky Iroro Avweromie, yesterday brokered sustainable peace between embattled Okuama community and neighbouring Okoloba community with the signing of a Peace Accord.

The peace deal initiated by the Bomadi local government boss took place at the Government House Annex, Warri, which had in attendance the leadership of both communities, royal fathers and security agents from both council areas, where Okuama and Okoloba communities resolved to live in peace and harmony.

In his opening remark, Hon. Andaye, who chaired the peace meeting, disclosed it was convened with the backing of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, who he said mandated him to iron out all aching issues between the two communities.

"The main purpose of this meeting is that we have no other option than to live in peace. The Okoloba and Okuama crisis is not from God, it is of the devil and no price is too big to pay for peace to reign between these two communities.

"You people have lived together peacefully in the days of old and you can do same today. Let that old relationship between Okuama and Okoloba be sustained.

"Our governor His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is aware of this meeting and he is expecting us to report back to him after the meeting. If we don't agree to live in peace now, we are planting hatred and persistent conflicts for our future generations.

"The ultimate goal of this meeting is to ensure lasting peace between Okuama and Okoloba communities, and we want both communities to go back to your age-long relationship of peaceful co-existence", Hon. Andaye said.

His counterpart, Hon. Avweromie, on his part said that sustainable peace could only be achieved if both communities forgave one another's offences and mistakes.

He said: "No other person can settle this issue but the people of Okuama and Okoloba communities. We have to speak as brothers and sisters, lasting peace can only be achieved if you forgive one another. 

"Let us maintain our old relationship where we farm and fish together because we want free access to the river, we want free trade in the river and it is a must Okuama and Okoloba lived peacefully".

The Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, HRM Pere Kalanama VIII, who commended the council chairmen on the peace deal, disclosed that the two communities had lived together for over three hundred years.

 

"Okoloba and Okuama have been living together for over three hundred years and I want to appeal that it's enough of the fight, the land dispute should be amicably settled.

"I want to urge the state government to step in to demarcate the boundaries between the two communities for lasting peace to reign".

Crisis breeds sorrow, hardship, deaths—Ewu monarch 

On his part, the ovie of Ewu Kingdom, HRM Clement Oghenekevwe Ikolo, who emphasized the need for peaceful co-existence between the two communities, said an atmosphere of crisis often hatched out negative effects on an area and the people.

He said: "Crisis destroys the very fabrics of our communities, crisis breeds fear, sorrow, economic hardship and deaths. When we live in peace, we develop our domains and there is no need for us to be fighting one another.

"I urge both community representatives here to go back home and talk to your people on the need for peaceful coexistence. We must refresh our minds and have the spirit of forgiveness so we can stand together as a people".

In the same vein, the ovie of Arhavwarien Kingdom, HRM Solomon Okukeren, who also preached peace and unity to both communities said Okuama and Okoloba communities were one people.

"Stop the spread of hate speech and I want both communities to embrace peace and harmony", he said.

Responding, the leadership of both communities pledged their willingness to live as brothers and thanked the initiators of the peace move.

Okuama Eternally Committed to Peace, Harmony with Okoloba—Sec. general Ewu Kingdom

The secretary-general of Ewu Kingdom, Amb. Edewor Egdegbe, who led the Okuama community representatives, commended Gov. Oborevwori and the two council chairmen for initiating the peace move, pledging the community's readiness to live peacefully with its neighbour.

He said: "I thank the government of Gov. Oborevwori for ensuring that there is sustainable peace between us. I also commend the efforts of the council chairmen and traditional rulers on this peace building process.

"The people of Okuama are eternally committed to peace between both communities. These two communities have lived together in the past and will continue to live together. We will abide by the Peace Accord.

"We also use this medium to appeal to the federal government to follow due process in the approach on issues as innocent Okuama indigenes are suffering, and as we are speaking we don't know the whereabouts of our frontline community leaders".

Okoloba Committed to Peaceful Co-existence with Okuama—Dr Akpobolokemi

Okoloba community, responding through the leader of the delegation, Dr David Akpobolokemi, who was Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to former governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Research and Youth Development, said: "Peace Accord is a fundamental move we as a community fully subscribed to.

"We subscribed to it in its entirety and Okoloba community is committed to ensuring sustainable peace between us, we will do everything humanly possible to live together in peace and move forward.

"We thank Gov. Oborevwori and the two council chairmen for their tireless efforts made towards achieving sustainable peace between us".

However, the Peace Accord, which was signed by both communities leaders, council chairmen, DPOs and DSS of both council areas with its full content as follows:

1. Immediate Ceasefire: Both communities agree to an immediate ceasefire and an end to all hostilities

2. Denouncement of Violence: Both communities denounce the recent military operations and the looting and destruction of property in Okuama community.

3. Reconciliation: Both communities agree to work towards reconciliation and forgiveness

4. Access to Farmlands and Farming Activities: Both communities agree to grant free access to farmlands and farming activities within our respective boundaries, recognizing the importance of agriculture to our livelihood.

5. Joint Patrol: Both communities appeal to government to strengthen the joint patrols along the Forcados River bank to ensure safety and security.

6. Free Passage along the Forcados River: Both communities agree to allow free passage of boats and passengers along the Forcados River bank bordering both communities.

7. Abuja____ Frontline youth leaders under the auspices of over 60 youth organisations have declared their members will not participate in the  rumoured national protest being planned by some persons and groups for October 1 against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The president of Nigeria Youth Organization, Duke Alamboye, made the position of the youth leaders known when he led a delegation of representatives of the groups on a courtesy visit to the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr Dennis Otuaro, in Abuja on Thursday.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Special Assistant on Media to the PAP Administrator, Mr Igoniko Oduma, on Thursday.

The youth bodies include the National Youth Congress, Arewa Youth Council, Yoruba Youth Council, Ohaneze Youth Council, South-South Advocate, Niger Delta Coalition, the Nigeria Nexus, Youth Parliament of Nigeria, Green Africa Youth Initiative, Youth Foundation for Non-Violence in Nigeria, Niger Delta Youth Parliament, National Association of Nigerian Students, and Youth Empowerment for Peace and Security, among others.

Alamboye said that they would work together with a network of other youth groups to ensure that Nigerian youths were not misled into taking part in any ill-advised protest against the government of Tinubu.

He said they would carry out a series of activities in the days ahead, including a world press conference and a youth summit, to sensitize Nigerians on the need to shun any demonstration in the country.

Alamboye urged youths to embrace constructive dialogue and explore available channels of engagement with the government to express their views instead of disrupting the peace and stability of the nation.

He said, "Concerning the state of the nation, we are not unaware of the agitation from certain quarters calling for a nationwide protest on October 1, 2024. It is a protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government.

"As youth leaders and lovers of peace and national advancement, the Nigeria Youth Organization would like to inform you of our plan and intention to hold a world press conference on the 23rd of September, 2024, geared towards sensitizing the average Nigerian youth on the need to shun the planned protest.

"We want people to seek dialogue as a better reconciliation tool for venting their grievances. We also hope to organise a summit on October 1st, 2024, as a follow-up to the world press conference. We anticipate that all well-meaning stakeholders will play vital roles in charting a better cause for our youths."

The youth leader congratulated Otuaro on his appointment and commended the President for putting a square peg in a square hole through the appointment of Otuaro.

He stressed that they were solidly behind Tinubu and the PAP boss.

Also speaking, Henry Okonkwo of the Ohaneze Youth Council, Tobi Bakare (Yoruba Youth Council), Ifon Daniel (Niger Delta Youth Parliament), and Nasir Lawal (Arewa Youth Council), among others, corroborated Alamboye and expressed support for the president.

Responding, the PAP Administrator praised the youth leaders for dissociating themselves from any planned protest, noting that Tinubu was a youth-friendly leader who had appointed several youths to serve in different capacities in his government.

Otuaro urged them not to allow themselves to be manipulated into unpatriotic activities in the name of protest, as the president needs more time for the benefits of his people-oriented reforms, policies, and programmes to manifest.

While thanking the youth groups for their decision and support for Tinubu, he said, "Mr. President means well for the country. It is reassuring to know that Nigerian youths are with Mr President, who has been in office for a little over a year. 

"As youths, we should organise ourselves and present our grievances and concerns through constructive dialogues. Nobody should manipulate you to achieve their ulterior goals. Most of those championing the so-called protest are only seeking attention and they thrive under the guise of anti-government protests to get attention. Youths should be watchful."

Bomadi___ The Executive Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye, has embarked on a proactive mission to tackle the recurring issue of flooding in the area. Accompanied by his Vice Chairman, Chief Powei Guembe Bekes, Secretary to the Local Government Council, Mr. Famous Ofurobiri and Mrs. Dirime-ere Talbort, Head of the Environment Department, Hon. Andaye conducted a comprehensive assessment of flood-prone areas within the local government.

During the inspection, it was discovered that illegal obstructions and the indiscriminate dumping of refuse were major contributors to the perennial flooding that has plagued parts of Bomadi. The areas assessed included the Bomadi Library Road, Donbraye, and Winners Chapel, where the Council is working to clear and open up critical drainage networks to prevent further flooding.

In addressing the situation, Hon. Andaye stressed the importance of removing any structures that obstruct water channels, noting that buildings blocking the flow of water will not be spared in the forthcoming drainage clearance exercise. He underscored the need to enforce strict environmental measures to restore the free flow of water and eliminate silt buildup in the drainage systems.

Key Measures to Combat Flooding:

Demolition of Obstructive Structures: Buildings or structures hindering water flow will be demolished.

Drainage Clearance: The removal of silt from blocked drainages to ensure effective water passage.

Strict Environmental Enforcement: The Environment Department will take decisive action against those flouting environmental regulations.

A Warri based peace and development advocate, Comrade Chief Sheriff Mulade has repeated his appeal to the leadership of the good people of Benikrukru Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom (where he hails from), to donate any portion of land required by indigenes of the area for investment, not to sell to same, so as to encourage connected indigenes to attract investment to the locality.

The renowned peace and environmental justice advocate also appealed to people of that community not to set a dangerous precedence by selling land to indigenes, as that might create chaos in the nearest future and negatively affect the growth and development of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in future.

Chief Mulade, who is the Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, re-emphasized the need to encourage and support investment by donating land as equity stake that would guarantee security and sustainable benefit to generations yet unborn.

The Gbaramatu-born peace advocate emphasized that all sons and daughters of Benikrukru Community were entitled to land free of charge as bonafide indigenes, and not to buy land under any disguise whatsoever.

He strongly advised: "We should support and encourage any of our indigenes who has the capacity to attract investors to Gbaramatu Kingdom, especially Benikrukru Community, to create employment and job opportunities for our teeming youths that will in turn attract massive development to the area. Therefore, we should appreciate one of our indigenes for his contributions to the development and growth of the community, and also for showcasing the potentials of the community to the outside world". 

Nothing further,  Sheriff Mulade emphasized that, "land should be donated freely as the community equity contribution towards supporting his efforts,  instead of selling land to him. This will serve as motivation to this illustrious son, and many others like him."

Mulade expressed strong belief that the prevailing harsh economic situation in Nigeria today was not enough for Benikrukru people to forget his  contributions to the economic growth of the community. "Let us avoid doing things that are inimical to natural justice, equity and fair play," Mulade advised. 

The Ijaw-born High Chief said Benikrukru land belongs to all the indigenes with free holding entitlement, and strongly advised that the community should support and contribute to the investment move of our illustrious son, without selling of land under any disguise. Let remember and learn from history, he added.
