Edumogiren Addresses Gov. Oborevwori of Delta State, Says his Performance is Key to Unlocking ljaw Votes in 2027

INTRODUCTION

As the renowned Leonardo da Vinci once stated, “Nothing strengthens evil more than silence.” It is vital to shed light on the challenging and often uncomfortable realities the Ijaw people face in Delta State.

Over the years, successive administrations have persistently undermined the Ijaw Ethnic Nation, subjecting the people to systemic neglect and emotional turmoil. This unfortunate plight has been exacerbated by some self-serving leaders, who engage in a cycle of recycled empty rhetoric each election cycle, leaving the Ijaws to grapple with their inherent and unjust marginalization.

This discourse aims to explore the historical neglect of the Ijaw Nation since the creation of Delta State, particularly from the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999. We must awaken from our passive acceptance of this pervasive status quo and actively pursue strategies to dismantle the structures of marginalization that have hindered our progress. Together, we can forge a path toward equitable development, fairness, dignity, and justice for our ethnic nation.

POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS AND HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT.

Reflecting on past instances of discrimination, one can look back at the short-lived Felix Ovodoroye Ibru administration in the ill-fated Third Republic. During the James Onanefe Ibori administration, only one Commissioner was appointed from the Ijaw ethnic group - a stark inequity, especially when considering the sizable presence of the Ijaw people in Bomadi, Burutu (which also doubles as a federal constituency due to its vastness), Patani, Warri South, Warri Southwest, and Warri North Local Government Areas. Population-wise, the Ijaws rank closely behind the Urhobos yet, within the political landscape, the disparity in representation is glaring.

While five Commissioners and the Secretary to the State Government, alongside heads of numerous lucrative boards and parastatals, hailed from the Urhobo ethnic group, the Ijaw representation remained woefully inadequate. This trend continued as Ibori increased Urhobo representation to ten Commissioners, leaving the Ijaw people with a mere two. Perhaps as a test of our tolerance or worse, a deliberate affront, the second Ijaw Commissioner was assigned the inconspicuous role of “Commissioner for the Deputy Governor's Office.” An appointment likened to a spare tire, this choice was not only a vital underestimation but also an insult to the Ijaw populace.

It is also important to remember the context of the larger defunct Bendel State, where the Ijaws secured two Commissioners while the Urhobos had three, highlighting the persisting inequalities in representation. The persistent denial of Ijaws in civil service employment and their exclusion from strategic roles is a bitter reality of which we are all too aware.

ESTABLISHMENT OF HIGHER INSTITUTIONS OF LEARNING.

Prior to the onset of the Ibori administration in 1999, the following state-owned institutions of higher learning existed primarily on Urhobo soil:

1. Delta State University, Abraka (Urhobo Land);

2. College of Education, Edjaba-Warri (Urhobo Land);

3. Delta State School of Nursing, Edjaba-Warri (Urhobo Land);

4. Delta State College of Health Technology, Ufuoma-Ughelli (Urhobo Land);

5. Delta State School of Nursing, Sapele (Urhobo Land);

6. Delta State University, Oleh Campus (Isoko Land);

7. Delta State University, Awain-Asaba Campus (Oshimilli-Igbo Land);

8. College of Education, Agbor (Ika Land);

9. Delta State School of Nursing, Agbor (Ika Land).

Under James Ibori's tenure, additional institutions were established, favoring Urhobo interests:

10. College of Medicine/Teaching Hospital, Delta State University, Oghara (Urhobo Land);

11. Oghara Polytechnic, Oghara (Urhobo Land);

12. Ozoro Polytechnic, Ozoro (Isoko Land);

13. Ogwashiku Polytechnic, Ogwashiku (Oshimilli-Igbo Land);

14. College of Physical Education, Mosogar (Urhobo Land).
Significantly, it was only during Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration that a multi-campus Delta State School of Marine Technology was established at

15. Burutu (Ijaw Land) - an exception amidst a trend of neglect;

16. Gbaregolor Campus (Urhobo Land);

17. Kwale Campus (Ukwuani Land);

18. Eku Baptist School of Nursing was taken over by the Uduaghan administration as a State Institution of Learning (Urhobo Land).

Developments under the Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa administration expanded on this disparity, upgrading various institutions predominantly in non-Ijaw areas without correspondingly supporting the Ijaw ethnic nation's educational needs. For instance, he elevated the following schools to autonomous universities:

19. Anwai-Asaba Campus of Delta State University, to Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba (Oshimilli-Igbo Land);

20. College of Education, Agbor, to University of Delta, Agbor (Ika Land);

21. Ozoro Polytechnic, to Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro (Isoko Land).

 - a proactive measure far removed from our Ijaw struggles.

Sheriff Francis Oborevwori has similarly perpetuated this inequity with the establishment of educational facilities favoring primarily the Urhobo and Isoko regions with:

22. Faculty of Management Sciences, Delta State University of Science and Technology, Orerokpe Campus (Urhobo Land); and

23. School of Health Technology, Ovrode, (Isoko Land).

This leaves Ijaw aspirations once again sidelined.

Regrettably, the educational infrastructure necessary for progress has been consistently denied to the Ijaw Nation. Rumors suggest that this grievous oversight was facilitated by Ijaw political representatives, choosing momentary gratification over long-term investment in our communities’ educational development. Their selfishness has contributed to a crippling gap in higher learning opportunities established by the administrations of Ibori, Okowa and now Oborevwori.

Education is undeniably the cornerstone of social and economic advancement, contributing significantly to poverty reduction, the bridging of inequalities, and the empowerment of future leaders.

INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT.

Infrastructural development embodies the process of enhancing the foundational structures essential for a community's growth. It improves the quality of life while stimulating enduring economic prosperity.

Yet, when assessing infrastructural progress in Ijaw Land, it is apparent that our region is treated as if it does not belong to Delta State. Aside from the Bomadi Bridge - erected during Ibori's administration - no substantial infrastructure has been developed to serve the needs of Ijaw people.

The projects initiated during the Uduaghan administration have seen little to no follow-through under Okowa, landing them in a state of abandonment or, worse, neglect. Ayakoromo Bridge and roads such as Bomadi/Ojobo, Bomadi/Ohorho and Agoloma/Toru-Agiama/Uduophori roads have deteriorated into dangerous pathways, turning into death traps for fishermen, river transporters, motorists, and passengers alike. These once-promising projects have transformed into habitats for wild animals, symbolizing our leadership's disregard for the economic contributions of the Ijaw Nation.
LIKE OKOWA, LIKE OBOREVWORI.

Like his predecessor, since he was inaugurated, Oborevwori has been displaying insouciant attitude towards the plight of Ijaw People. He has continuously demonstrated astonishing and wilful detachment from the Ijaws, offering no sense of empathy and responsibility for the gross underdevelopment of their land. This sordid and despicable behaviour of his will not be taken lightly.

He would have known that "Power is never the property of an individual; it belongs to a group and remains in existence only so long as the group keeps together. When we say of somebody that he is 'in power' we actually refer to his being empowered by a certain number of people to act in their name. The moment the group, from which the power originated to begin with… disappears, his power also vanishes" - Hannah Arendt.

The Delta Ijaw struggle is not merely a matter of representation; it is a relentless pursuit of dignity, justice and recognition. As such, we cannot continue to rest on our oars. Being the second most populated tribe in Delta State, we are a formidable political block and force that have contributed significantly to the victory of all elected Governors of Delta State since its creation in 1991.

We must rally together as a united force, demanding equitable treatment and a departure from the status quo of marginalization that has plagued the Ijaw people for far too long. The call to action is loud and clear: it is time to reclaim our rightful place in the governance and development of Delta State. Only through collective effort and resolute action can we facilitate the necessary changes that will allow the Delta Ijaw Nation to thrive and flourish.

Against this background, the overwhelming feeling of Delta Ijaws should be that, henceforth, no Governor of the State, starting from Oborevwori, should be supported and re-elected in 2027, if he continues on his present trajectory of governance. The Ijaws have realized that it is bad enough for them now, and will certainly be worst if Oborevwori is re-elected in 2027.

That, once he is re-elected by whatever contrivance, without the challenges of facing another round of elections, he will feel safe and free to perpetuate the injustice against Ijaw People.

HOW TO GET IJAW SUPPORT AND SWING OUR VOTES.

Ijaws are aware now that, incumbency factor does not always work where the people speak with one voice as witnessed in the victory of former President Muhammadu Buhari over then incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

The political shenanigans or deviousness displayed by some Ijaw Leaders that paid you homage cannot help deliver you as well. The Ijaws know that most of those persons have no electoral value. Some don't even go to their villages on election day, and even those who go to their villages leave the polling boot after voting, without recourse to hanging around to protect their votes.

This time, the collective decision of the Ijaws at the Ballot Box will be guided not by party affiliation or loyalty, but by authenticity of conscience.

I wish to state unequivocally that only aggressive infrastructural advancements in Ijaw Land and human capital development will be the fundamental influence of our electoral decision. Hence, the basic deciding factor that will determine Ijaw support and votes for you is prompt completion of all abandoned projects, including but not limited to Ayakoromo Bridge, Bomadi/Ojobo Road, Asaba-Ase/Abari Road, Kiagbodo Technical College, and convert it to a Campus (Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries), Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, commence infrastructural cum academic work at the moribund Bomadi Polytechnic, initiate, award and complete new economically viable projects like connecting Bomadi, Burutu, Patani and Ogbe-Ijoh to the National Grid, etcetera.

"It is the fly that does not listen to wise counselling that follows the corpse into the grave." "The wise man hears and increases in learning." I am convinced that Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori will act accordingly and promptly too, to swing Ijaw Votes in his favour in 2027, thus win and continue enjoying the spoils of his office for a second tenure. So I believe, His Excellency!

Hon. Prince Edumogiren Augustine writes from Ayakoromo Town in Delta State.

N'Delta Youth leader Mingo lauds NNPCL, Tantita, Tompolo, Kyari, Pondi over increase of output in Oil and Gas daily Production

N'Delta Youth leader Mingo lauds NNPCL, Tantita, Tompolo, Kyari, Pondi over increase of output in Oil and Gas daily Production

Niger Delta Youth Leader Comrade Mingo Friday Saya Ogumaka, popularly known as KingdomVoice, has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), owned by High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo GOC), for their remarkable contributions to Nigeria's oil sector.

The commendation comes as NNPCL announced that the nation's crude oil production has reached an impressive 1.8 million barrels per day (1.8m bpd). Additionally, gas production has also seen significant growth, rising to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (7.4 bscfd).

Comrade Mingo Publisher Egbemavoice News attributed this milestone to the strategic collaboration between NNPCL and Tantita Security Services in curbing crude oil theft, ensuring pipeline security, and fostering stability in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. He described this achievement as a testament to the importance of involving local stakeholders in national resource management and applauded Tompolo's leadership and dedication to securing Nigeria's critical oil infrastructure.

This development highlights the potential for enhanced national revenue generation and underscores the importance of sustainable security measures in the oil and gas industry.

Comrade Mingo, further emphasized the life-saving impact of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) in the Niger Delta region. He noted that Tantita, under the leadership of High Chief Kesty Pondi has played a pivotal role in preventing numerous tragedies associated with illegal bunkering activities.

"Tantita has not only safeguarded the nation's oil wealth but has also saved many lives from devastating illegal bunkering fire incidents," Comrade Mingo stated. He highlighted the organization's efforts in curbing the hazardous practice of crude oil theft, which has often led to fatal explosions and environmental degradation in the region.

He called on other security agencies and stakeholders to emulate Tantita's commitment to safety and community well-being, stressing that their proactive measures have brought significant relief to communities historically plagued by the dangers of illegal oil operations.

Comrade Mingo Saya, has lauded Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) for its unparalleled contributions to peace and security in the Niger Delta region. According to Mingo, Tantita's operations, under the visionary leadership of High Chief Kesty Pondi, have not only safeguarded the nation's oil assets but have also transformed the Niger Delta into one of the most peaceful regions in the country.

"Tantita has brought lasting peace to the Niger Delta riverine communities by reducing crime rates to their lowest levels," Comrade Mingo remarked. He credited the private security outfit for its proactive measures in addressing security challenges, including illegal bunkering, piracy, and other criminal activities that once plagued the region.

Mingo emphasized that the stability achieved through Tantita’s efforts has not only improved the livelihoods of the local populace but has also created an environment conducive to development and investment. He called on the government and other stakeholders to continue supporting Tantita's initiatives to sustain the gains made in the Niger Delta.

Comrade Mingo, widely known as KingdomVoice, has highlighted the enduring agitation of the Niger Delta people for resource control. Speaking on the current state of affairs, he noted that while the federal government of Nigeria remains in charge of managing the region's vast resources, the cry for true resource control continues to resonate among the people.

“Niger Deltans have been agitating for resource control for decades, yet the federal government has maintained dominance over the management of these resources,” Comrade Mingo stated. He emphasized that the region, which contributes significantly to the nation’s wealth through oil and gas production, has long sought a more equitable share of its natural resources and greater autonomy in their management.

He called for renewed dialogue and policy reforms to address the legitimate concerns of the Niger Delta people, advocating for a framework that ensures sustainable development, environmental preservation, and fair benefits for the communities most affected by resource extraction.

Comrade Ogumaka, also known as KingdomVoice, has emphasized that securing the Niger Delta's resources is the best option for the people, especially for the oil-bearing communities Indigenes. He noted that the region's resources are the backbone of Nigeria's economy, yet the host communities have often borne the brunt of environmental degradation, poverty, and neglect.

"Securing the Niger Delta's resources is not just about protecting national assets but also about ensuring that the oil-bearing communities can benefit from the wealth beneath their lands," Comrade Mingo said. He stressed that initiatives like those undertaken by Tantita Security Services have proven that involving local stakeholders in resource protection fosters peace, reduces crime, and promotes sustainable development.

He urged the federal government and relevant stakeholders to invest more in securing the region's resources while prioritizing the welfare of the oil-producing communities. According to him, this approach will lead to equitable resource distribution, improved infrastructure, and a brighter future for the Niger Delta people.

Just-ln: FG Commend NNPCL, Tantita, others as crude oil production hit 1.8 million bpd, gas' 7.4billion scfd

Just-ln: FG Commend NNPCL, Tantita, others as crude oil production hit 1.8 million bpd, gas' 7.4billion scfd

*We remain committed to attainment of over  2million bpd - Tantita

Ecomiums have been pouring in for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and a private security outfit, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) as the nation's crude oil production hit 1.8 millions barrels per day (1.8m bpd)

The board and management of NNPCL, which announced the feat on Thursday, also disclosed that gas production has also risen to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (7.4bscfd).

Stakeholders have hailed NNPCL and private security agencies hired to safeguard the nation's economic assets, especially Tantita, for achieving the feat.

Tantita has lately led a relentless war against crude oil theft and pipelines' vandalism, pursuing oil thieves out of the nation's coastal environment as well as seizing and confiscating their equipment.

It was gathered that most of the oil thieves abandoned the nefarious business in the wake of the onslaught and ceaseless heat by the operatives of Tantita security services positioned in the coastal axis of the Niger Delta.

These collaborative efforts with other state actors significantly contributed to the latest rise in the quantum of production of crude  and gas resources.

It was gathered that Tantita has initiated clampdown measures to keep the oil thieves at bay with a view to realising 2million bpd of crude oil production by the end of December, in conjuction with other industry stakeholders.

NNPCL's Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), who announced this at a press briefing on Thursday, said the feat was achieved in compliance with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Kyari  congratulated the Production War Room Team that anchored the production recovery process.

“The team has done a great job in driving this project of not just production recovery but also escalating production to expected levels that are in the short and long terms acceptable to our shareholders based on the mandates that we have from the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board,” Kyari stated.

Giving details of the efforts of the Production War Room, the Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser to the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lawal Musa, said the feat was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract partners, the Office of the National Security Adviser, as well as government and private security agencies.

He said the interventions that led to the recovery of production cut across every segment of the production chain, with security agencies closely monitoring the pipelines.

He stressed that when the Production War Room team was inaugurated on the 25th of June 2024, production was at 1.430 mbpd.

He noted that the team swung into action, culminating in it sustaining the production recovery to 1.7 mbpd in August and hitting the current 1.808 mbpd in November.

“We are confident that with this same momentum and with the active collaboration of all stakeholders, especially on the security front, we can see the possibility of getting to 2MBPD by the end of the year,” he added.

It will be recalled that the Chairman of TSSNL, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo,
 while speaking during an award bestowed on him by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), promised to ensure that the daily crude oil production output continued to increase and boost the nation’s revenue.

“The only place I have to call my country is Nigeria, so I will do everything within my powers to see that crude oil production increases.”

Reacting to the latest feat yesterday, Tompolo, said he was excited to be part of the success story.
Tompolo, who spoke through his Special Adviser Media and Public Communication, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, said Tantita was committed to the realisation of 2mbp by December as directed by President Tinubu.

He said, "This milestone, as you know, was achieved in collaboration with NNPCL, security forces and of course, Tantita, which has been at the forefront of oil pipelines protection in the Niger Delta . We are determined to take it to 2mbpd before the year runs out as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu."

"All the needed machinery has been put in place to ensure that the target is achieved. No effort will be spared to ensure that the economy of Nigeria is galvanised."
"This will lead to a boost in government's revenue, thereby making more funds available for the President and his team to run the country effectively.  I am assuring you that we are not going to rest on our oars until the target is achieved and even exceeded."

"New technologies were being deployed to monitor the facilities with a view to ensuring  that there won't be any disruption and that the theft of Nigeria's commonwealth is halted."

"So the 1.8mbpd that it has got to, certainly by the end of the year, by God's grace, we will work to get it to 2mbpd and even exceed. We are working towards that,"

Kestin Ebimobowei Pondi, has reached a significant milestone with the successful completion of his first oil well project in the heart of Niger Delta, South-South Region of Nigeria.

After two years of dedicated work, Kestin’s vision has been realized, marking his entry into Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The Leadership of the Delta State House of Assembly and its Arbitrary Suspensions

The Leadership of the Delta State House of Assembly and its Arbitrary Suspensions

As a Deltan with utmost interest in upholding the principles of democracy, I am quite concerned about the current leadership of the Delta State House of Assembly led by Emomotimi Guwor.

There has been series of suspension of members by the Speaker most of which are politically motivated and serves no legitimate purpose. Under the leadership of Emomotimi Guwor, the practice of consolidating bills appears to be unknown... Any member who questions this approach faces arbitrary suspension under the pretext of "wilful and false perversion of proceedings. "

The Delta State House of Assembly has never had such poor leadership. Suspensions are taken without due process and without adequate justification and I am forced to question if this is the new way to go in legislative process. A House where suspension is employed as a tool to intimidate members who are democratically elected by their people. Moreso, in a time when the proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year would be reviewed and deliberated by the House.

How can a member be suspended for misconduct without a clear and public explanation of the allegations? The claim that a committee will be formed to investigate after the suspension raises concerns about the transparency and fairness of the process. It appears that a predetermined outcome may have already been decided upon.

The public should note that in the plenary proceeding that led to my representative’s suspension, no member raised their hand to second the motion and that the member who seconded the motion was called out by the Speaker to second the motion.

We may not have riches but the only thing we have is our name and we will be fearless about protecting that name.

 I write as a concerned constituent of Bomadi.

He however, pledged support and participation in the groundbreaking event on December 11, 2024.

The programme Tagged "Advancing the Quest for Economic/Political Freedom in a Siege Nation," aimed at bringing together leaders and stakeholders to explore innovative solutions for the Ijaw nation and Niger Delta's economic growth. Delta Ijaw Political Merchants on The Prowl Again: Moral Bankruptcy and Intellectual Poverty of a People_ By Hon. Prince Austin Edumogiren

Delta Ijaw Political Merchants on The Prowl Again: Moral Bankruptcy and Intellectual  Poverty of a People_ By Hon. Prince Austin Edumogiren

* The way out of this evil.

PREAMBLE:

"The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything" - Albert Einstein.

Truth sounds like hate to those who hate it or hate telling it. Believing in the unquantifiable benefits of truth, I have decided to take up my pen once more and truthfully address a pressing issue facing the Delta Ijaw Nation.

REMINISCING ON  PAST EVENTS.

As whispers grow about certain individuals positioning Delta Ijaws for sale ahead of the 2027 General Elections, it becomes imperative, infact, in our best interest, to stand against their evil machinations of sellout and betrayal in Ijaw Land.

The primary and perhaps only obstacle to the progress of the Delta Ijaw Nation is not external force(s); it is the Ijaw People themselves - their actions, inactions and complacency.

In 2022, a group of Delta Ijaw Men and Women led by Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, branded themselves as champions of "Ijaw Agenda 2023". A political pressure group that advocated for Governor of Ijaw extraction in Delta State, and thus campaigned across the entire State.

Contrary to their plan and expectation(s), they couldn't achieve their desired aim due primarily to the following reasons.

1. Contradictory Leadership: The key figures that led the agenda were people that have earlier opposed and battled their kinsmen with same ambition to govern Delta State to submission, resulting in Ijaw failure in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

2. Historical Failures: For over two decades, these leaders consistently failed woefully to represent the interest and welfare of the Ijaw People, resulting in minimal delivery of the dividends of democracy or spoils of their offices in the mould of particularly infrastructure and human capital development.

3. Self-serving Motives: The actions of the foot-soldiers of the agenda reflected the pattern of their principals - largely a balance sheet of self-serving and a charade of self, family and very few cronies enrichment, rather than the broader Ijaw Nation.

GRAND CONSPIRACY TO SELLOUT.

This backdrop brings us to the recent visit by certain Delta Ijaw Men and Women, mostly PDP Members, who paid homage to Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba.

Widely reported in Leadership Newspaper and other news outlets, Bozimo led his group in expressing gratitude to the Governor for, as he claimed "keeping faith with the Ijaw People". He praised the Governor for the allegedly numerous appointments and development projects purportedly benefitting Ijaw Land since he took office on May 29, 2023.

In what can only be described as political expediency, Bozimo effectively offered loyalty and support of the Ijaw Nation for the Oborevwori Administration beyond his first term, stating, “Seeing is believing, and you don’t need to go about campaigning in 2027. We will campaign for you, and I know that we can't remain the same in Delta any more.”

In conclusion, Bozimo said, "We, the Ijaw Nation, have risen to support you. When we say it, we mean it, and that's how it will be in your second term; we will stand behind you when the time comes, because you are a 'talk-and-do' Governor."

There is an almost surreal audacity by using Delta Ijaw Nation to endorse Oborevwori, when the Urhobos who are not only his kinsmen, but on whose land Multi-billion Naira Projects are awarded to the giant of construction, Julius Berger, and construction work at advanced stages, have not endorsed their son. It smacks of hypocrisy!

But wait: doesn't this corroborate the description of some Ijaw Leaders as "Cash and carry"?! Anywhere belle face, give them Ghana-Must-Go, they will turn to you!

There is no arguing the fact that Bozimo and his fellow-travellers are leaders in their right. However, it is surprising that they now posture themselves as the mouthpiece of the Ijaw Nation. What legitimacy do they hold when the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), elected representatives of the Ijaw Nation Worldwide, stand undisputed?

QUADRENNIAL RECYCLED RHETORIC FOR STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE

Talk is cheap! For their stomach infrastructure, every four years you hear this same recycled rhetorics from these avaricious old foxes to any government in place. They are political merchants that care about themselves and their immediate families only. They are moral bankrupts that suffer intellectual poverty!

The presence of these so-called leaders mark an alarming rise in detrimental and divisive rhetoric, encouraging younger and small minds they have recruited, emboldening them to follow their treacherous part, thereby stoking flames of wider division amongst Ijaw People.

I have often asked myself what drives Bozimo and his cohorts to embark on such self-seeking and self-debasing movements that makes them an object of ridicule without getting any answer. Why continue this self-destructive cycle when there are more profound and pressing concerns in Ijaw Land?
With the wealth and influence Bozimo, an octogenarian, is blessed with, including but not limited to him being a Successful Senior Lawyer, former Commissioner when he was under thirty years in the defunct Bendel State. Recently Minister of Police Affairs and Minister of Interior (State), highly placed wives, children, grandchildren, visible money yielding properties, etcetera, and some of his septuagenarian associates that are not less blessed, what do they still want?

Paying courtesy call on the Governor in the name of any other body than Ijaw Nation would have been noble. Presenting list of projects and asking for more appointments for fellow Ijaw People is laudable and commendable.

LAND WITHOUT GOVERNMENT PATRONAGE

However, what are the development projects Governor Oborevwori has awarded, executed and commissioned in Ijaw Land since assuming office on May 29, 2023? What special preference(s), be it appointment or whatever, has his government given to the Ijaws to warrant the Bozimo Group to thank and appreciate him to the high heavens, and endorse him for Governor in 2027? NON!

For a people on whose land the Oborevwori Administration have not awarded any project, not to talk of executing any project, including abandoned projects to completion, to be quick, infact, be the first ethnic nation in the State, to sing his undeserved praises and endorse him for second tenure in far away 2027 is absurd and unacceptable.

The grim reality remains that since the administration of Governor James Onanefe Ibori from 1999-2007, aside from Bomadi Bridge, no significant development has been witnessed in Ijaw Land.

Ayakoromo Bridge that was awarded and work started in the Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Administration since 2012 was abandoned by same Uduaghan Government. Governor Ifeayin Arthur Okowa who promised to complete it during his electioneering campaigns in 2015 and 2019, succeeded in deceiving the Ijaw Nation throughout his eight years two tenure. Now Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, who like his predecessor, promised to complete it during his campaigns in 2023, took few granites, pipes and rods to the site at the beginning of his administration. He has not returned to site to make good his promise since then. Ayakoromo Bridge is abandoned, and a death trap to fishermen and others whose means of livelihood is mainly dependent on the river.

Bomadi/Ojobo Road abandoned;

Bomadi/Ohorho Road abandoned;

Bomadi/Gbekebor Road (though a federal road) abandoned, even as the Gbaregolor/Esanma Bridge head along the road hangs in the river, far from the Esanma axis;

Agoloma/Toru-Agiama/Uduophori Road, abandoned;

Asaba Ase/Abari Road abandoned;

Bomadi Polytechnic moribund;

Kiagbodo Technical College abandoned;

Akugbene Technical College abandoned;

Ijaw Land in Delta State is where there is no single Campus of the about five State owned Universities;

Bomadi, Burutu, Patani, Warri Southwest and Warri North where the Ijaws are domiciled in the State are the only local government areas not linked to electricity from the National Grid.

Etcetera! etcetera!! Etcetera!!!

WAY OUT OF THE EVIL/CONCLUSION.

At a time our annual visitor has submerged the entire Ijaw Landscape, killing our people, destroyed farmlands and properties worth billions of Naira, we should mobilize efforts and be focused on calling on government, the private sector and wealthy individuals to come to our aid, like it was obtained at Borno State. Praise-singing at this time is rather sordid, awful and a display of inhumanity. It baffles the mind!

According to Leo Tolstoy, a giant of World Literature and Noble Russian who owned a large Estate and great fortune, "if you feel pain, you are alive, but if you feel the pain of others, you are human".

Bozimo and some of his comrades have since started replacing themselves with their children, occupying the few juicy positions statutorily for the Ijaw People.

Folks, you have served these men and women, do you still want to serve their children along with your children? We must not forget that the political machinations of these leaders place future generations of Ijaw in a virtual state of servitude - serving their interests and the interests of their family. "Servitude for one's family is slavery for all." We must awaken to the reality that our silence and tolerance of these deceptions will perpetuate a cycle of exploitation.

In the science of life, anyone using you without commensurate payment is pushing you to stand on your own. The person is pushing you to greatness that you have been unwilling to embrace. Self realization and actualization is key to life.

Therefore, stop frustrating yourself with your sleepy dependence on the crumbs you get from the table of these hawks. You are a treasure of hidden wealth waiting to unveil yourself.

No longer should we allow our destinies to be dictated to by a handful of political merchants; there is no better time than now, for we, the people, to come together faithfully, be assertive and desperately work to reclaim our power. Else, we and our children will continue to be abused, used and dumped or age tells on us to retire to complete defeat and failure in life. God forbids bad thing!

Okowa clears air on alleged diversion of 1.3 trilion derivation funds, mocks political enemies

Okowa clears air on alleged diversion of 1.3 trilion derivation funds, mocks political enemies

Former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has not established any fraudulent case against him.

Okowa said he willingly reported to the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to clear himself of any fraudulent act.

The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain said he has nothing to do with the alleged 13 percent derivation fund diversion.

He issued the clarification through his media aide, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika in a statement.

The statement reads partly: “The allegation that the former governor allegedly diverted N1.3 trillion oil derivation funds is as ludicrous as it is outlandish.

“This is just a rehash of the same spurious allegations that some malicious, myopic, vindictive, and prejudiced persons concocted while Okowa was still in office.

“The first point that needs to be made is that the EFCC has not established any case against Dr. Okowa.

“As is customary with the anti-graft agency, the former governor was invited to answer questions relating to some petitions that were filed against him by some disgruntled elements.

“Upon his return from vacation, and as a man with a clear conscience, Dr. Okowa proceeded to the EFCC office in Port Harcourt as requested.

“The substance of the petitions was that Dr. Okowa allegedly corruptly enriched himself and used state resources to acquire 80 percent stake in Premium Trust Bank.
“He was also alleged to have diverted state resources to build housing estates in Asaba and Abuja and two hotels.”

Veteran Journalist, Sola Adebayo Empowers NUJ Warri Members With N25 Million Endowment Fund

Veteran Journalist, Sola Adebayo Empowers NUJ Warri Members With N25 Million Endowment Fund

Veteran journalist and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Lawal Iyanda Farms Limited, Sola Adebayo, has launched a N25 million endowment fund for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondents Chapel.

Adebayo, in his magnanimity presented the dummy cheque of the whopping sum, on Tuesday during a brief ceremony attended by some of his friends, and business associates who also made awesome donations to his welfare package for members of the chapel.

The fund, which exceeded its initial target of N10 million, was conceptualized by the renowned media consultant in October, to support journalists in need and promote the well-being of chapel members.

Speaking at his residence during the presentation of the cheque to the leadership of the chapel, Adebayo who had a long standing media practice in Warri before venturing into farming, urged journalists to uphold the profession’s tenets, cultivate lasting relationships, and remain dedicated to their craft.

“As journalists, keep your friends. Journalism is a tool that makes you come in contact with people, therefore, make friends and sustain the relationship.

“Develop core friendship and don’t sacrifice the ultimate for the immediate. I appeal to all of you to be responsible,” he said.

According to the renowned Journalist, the target for the project which commenced on Oct.1, 2024 was N10 million.

He, however, expressed joy that the process was able to hit N25 million.

Acknowledging the contributions of the various donors, Adebayo expressed gratitude to his friends, associates and well-wishers for the success of the project.
“I want to sincerely appreciate all my friends who contributed generously towards this project. When we started the process, the target was N10 million. I am grateful, we exceeded the target,” he said.

Presenting the dummy cheque of N25 million on behalf of Mr Adebayo, Rt. Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, Member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representative called on the public and good spirited individuals to imbibe the culture of giving and assisting one another and groups.

The lawmaker who was highly elated noted that ability to impact on peoples life was significant because a person would be remembered for his/her positive impact and legacies.

According to Chief Ereyitomi, “Sola has been a very good friend and we have been relating well. What we are doing here today is significant in the sense that it has to do with humanity.

“Service to humanity is very key because all of us will grow old and one day leave this planet. What will people say about you? Our ability to impact on others is very key. We need to be conscious of it,” he said.

Chief Ereyitomi called on members of the Chapel to ensure the fund was used judiciously to encourage the donors .

According to him, “when we see that this fund is put into judicious use, we will be encouraged.

“Now that Sola has used this platform to impact, we expect that it will trickle down, to encourage us to do more. Not only for this profession but for others who also want to impact on humanity”.

Also speaking, Hon. Ben Eteanabene, Member representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency said that the project has not ended but a work in progress.

Hon. Etanabene recalled his relationship with Mr Adebayo while he was the Chairman of PENGASSAN at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI),

He added that Adebayo is a controversial but compassionate journalist who stands for the truth and kindness at all times.

“This is just one accomplished means to actualize his dream of impacting on humanity.

“It is the journalism he is practising that brought all of us together and I am happy he is still maintaining the relationships with his base.

“His base has not change. You can describe my friend as NUJ politician. I rejoice with all of you for this kind gesture.

“It has not ended, it is a process. Ensure judicious use of the money,” he advised.

The lawmaker noted that money is a source of joy but could also cause serious problems and urged the members to ensure it was judiciously managed.

He averred that government at all levels in the country had not shown concern for the welfare of the media in spite of their roles in shaping the society through agenda setting and others.

Also speaking, Hon. Donald Ojogo, Member representing Ilaje/Ese Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State and a journalist by profession described journalism as a door opener.

Hon. Ojogo expressed gratitude to Adebayo for the noble gesture and urged members to at all time uphold the ethics of the journalism profession.

According to him, “it was thing of joy when Asiwaju called, for me it was not a request. Journalism opens doors, you can have access to Ministers and establish contacts with them,” he said.

The former South South Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune recalled that Warri was operating like a state within a state.

According to him, the oil-rich city was more of a melting pot between the South West, South East and South South regions of the country.

Mr. Churchill Oyowe, Chairman, NUJ, Delta State Council urged members to ensure the money does not cause division among members of the chapel but rather, it should be revolving for the benefits of all.

“People should not feign challenges. It should be shared for genuine reasons.

“I beg of us, let this money not cause problem. Let it be revolving for the benefit of all of you.

“I thank all the good minded people and Asiwaju for galvanising them for this noble gesture,” he said.

In his opening remark, Mr. Victor Okpomor, Chairman, NUJ Warri Correspondents Chapel said that the initiative kick-started on Oct. 1, 2024.

He, on behalf of the Chapel expressed gratitude to Asiwaju Adebayo.

Okpomor described him as always a leading light who had transformed journalism practice in Warri in particular, Delta State and the country in general.
