In his keynote address, the PAP Administrator, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, noted that the deployment of the beneficiaries signified a consolidation of the Niger Delta human resources base through the scholarship scheme.

Otuaro said formal education was a critical component of the PAP’s intervention aimed at creating opportunities for the youths of the region, particularly indigent students from impacted communities, to achieve their dream of getting university education.

He said, “By sponsoring you for undergraduate studies, the PAP has taken a bold step to strategically deepen the Niger Delta formal education trajectory of bridging the human capital development gap to foster the region’s social-economic status. In fact, this is my desire and vision for our people.

“The selection process for the award of scholarship to beneficiaries for the 2024/2025 academic session was open, transparent and thorough and I take responsibility for the process.  We have, as a result, deployed about 1,700 students for this academic session. My leadership would always maintain high standards and work hard to ensure everyone was fairly treated in the selection process.”

He urged the students to be peace ambassadors of the Niger Delta expected to focus on their studies,  shun cultism and other social vices, while respecting the laws of their schools in order for them “to be found worthy in character and in learning” at graduation.

‘’We have become aware of a story published by Sahara Reporters with the headline, “How the Presidential Amnesty Programme illegally withdrew over N6 billion and paid tuition for students without records.” Similar stories were also published by other media organizations, notably Channelstv.com.

‘’The news stories were based on the Auditor-General of the Federation’s audit report, which noted alleged infractions in managing funds for the Presidential Amnesty Programme between 2020 and 2021.

‘’We'd like to clarify that the audit findings and reports have nothing to do with the current Administrator of the Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, as they predate his appointment as the head of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

‘’Dr Otuaro was appointed in March 2024, while the audit findings were for alleged infractions that took place between 2020 and 2021, clear three years before Otuaro’s appointment as the Amnesty boss.

‘’Since assuming office, Otuaro has diligently followed all extant rules and regulations regarding financial transactions at the PAP office, implementing strict financial controls and oversight to ensure transparency and accountability, and is committed to upholding the highest standards of financial management.

‘’As Administrator of the Programme, Otuaro has initiated a comprehensive review of the PAP's operations, focusing on streamlining processes, enhancing transparency, and improving service delivery, all of which have yielded significant positive results.

‘’We appeal to our media friends to be circumspect in publishing reports such as the one referenced above, and ensure that they get the facts right, in order not to incite stakeholders against the management of the Programme, or disrupt the peace and stability of the Niger Delta region.”

Awakening The ljaw Spirit: A Call to Action Against Political Subjugation_ By Hon. Prince Austin Edumogiren

Awakening The ljaw Spirit: A Call to Action Against Political Subjugation_ By Hon. Prince Austin Edumogiren

“We too often bind ourselves by authorities rather than by the truth.” - Lucretia Mott.

Just as bubbles release foul air from the depths of water, ultimately reaching the surface, so too will the truth triumph over authority, regardless of how vehemently it is suppressed. Deceptive narratives may delay the inevitable, but they can never extinguish the essence of reality.

There is no denying that Ijaw Land is the economic lifeblood of Delta State—and, by extension, Nigeria. The vast reserves of oil and gas extracted from our sacred land contribute significantly to the nation’s wealth, resulting in multi-billion-dollar revenues that are distributed to the federating states through the Monthly Federal Allocation Committee, the 13% Derivation, and various other financial instruments. Not surprisingly, Delta receives the largest share, earning Ijaw Land its well-deserved appellation as the "Glory Of All Lands."
Politically, as the second most populous ethnic group in Delta State, the Ijaw people hold substantial sway and will continue to be pivotal in shaping the political landscape.

In Nigeria, politics often resembles a conspiratorial race, where a politician’s clout is directly linked to the resources they can attract for their constituents.

Given this context, it has become abundantly clear that many Ijaw politicians—particularly the leaders and elected officials from 1999 to the present, have exhibited a troubling lack of resolve, often displaying traits of timidity, servility, naiveté, and selfishness in their political dealings.

Instead of diligently fulfilling the duties for which they were elected or appointed, these self-serving individuals resort to cunning tactics and manipulative strategies. They chorus the time-worn and destructive hymn of sycophancy, betraying their fellow Ijaw people in exchange for meager handouts from the wealth overseen by external forces they have come to regard as their superiors. The irony of this scenario is striking!

The underlying dynamics of Ijaw political maneuvering over the decades reveal not just a pattern of behaviour but a psychological battle. The emotions of fear and confidence, coupled with the oscillation between doubt and certainty, serve as a significant backdrop to the reality that political patronage for Ijaw Land and its people remains an elusive dream.

The Delta Ijaws find themselves encircled by political jeopardy, largely facilitated by traitors within their ranks. The political, economic, and infrastructural marginalization they endure poses a grave existential threat to their identity and future.

It is crucial for the Ijaw community to recognize that the various administrations of Delta State—most notably that of Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa and the current Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, who seems merely an extension of Okowa's third term—have exhibited a blatant disregard for Ijaw interests. Their astonishingly indifferent stance reveals a detachment lacking both empathy and responsibility towards our plight. One must ponder how any state in Nigeria can hope to thrive while systematically excluding an entire group from governance?

As the great Martin Luther King Jr. once asserted, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

Fear is a neurological response that can compel individuals to either capitulate to adversity or unite against it. The chronic marginalization and dehumanization faced by the Ijaws since the establishment of Delta State in 1991 compel us to seize control of our destiny.

Beloved Ijaws, let us remember that we are the cornerstone of political influence and that our land is the economic heartbeat of Delta State. It is time to awaken from our slumber, to unite as one, and to stand resolute and firm. We must take decisive action for our present and future if we are to survive as a people and restore our rightful place as a beacon of hope within the State.

We must refuse to remain passive and accept the cycle of deception and betrayal that has entangled us in a dance of servitude.

Let this message of liberation resonate deeply within us, particularly among our youth, whose futures are being sacrificed by leaders indifferent to their plight, while successive governments exploit this vulnerability to deny us our inalienable rights.

“A stitch in time saves nine”!

CHIEF BARRISTER S. SMOOTH CALLS BAYELSA LEADERS TO LOOK INTO THE SUFFERINGS OF THE PEOPLE, THANKS CHIEF KESTIN PONDI FOR COMING TO SAVE CHIEF ABRAHAM YOUNG

CHIEF BARRISTER S. SMOOTH CALLS BAYELSA LEADERS TO LOOK INTO THE SUFFERINGS OF THE PEOPLE, THANKS CHIEF KESTIN PONDI  FOR COMING TO SAVE CHIEF ABRAHAM YOUNG

The creation of Bayelsa State no doubt was the collective efforts of every Izon man, far and near. Many gave their resources and lives to see that we should have an indigenous state we can call home of every Izon man. The people danced and rejoice over the fact that their dream had been achieved. They thought freedom had come at last. They thought they had arrived safely to their promise land. Hopes were high, expectations soar.

First we had our military Administrators who did their best but too small and we feel they could not do better because they were strangers who had no sympathy or understanding the sufferings of the people. To make their voices heard the Ijaw youths numbering thousands gathered at Kaiama to declare their sovereignty as a free Nation. Many youths who came to participate in the protest died in the course. Their wives and children are forgotten today by the present crop of politicians who think of nobody but themselves. Their blood cry from the ground asking to be appreciated and appeased and yet nobody tend to listen.

Then came Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha who became our Piller of strength and hope. He was angry at the underdevelopment and opened Yenagoa the state capital for rapid growth and development. He became the voice of the IZON man anywhere in the world and that earned him the appellation (The Governor General.)  His reign marked the beginning of the success story of the IZON Dream.

But however his glory was cut off betrayed by his own brothers like Joseph in the Bible. He died for the Ijaw struggle that inspired my song APOLOGY. As a believer and fighter of the struggle, I saw the need for the Bayelsa land to be appeased to the spirit of late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha for future leaders to have a great sense of direction to lead the people well. To many that was a mere song to be overlooked with careless abandon. But today the land is in darkness calling our leaders to wake up to their responsibilities. Now that we have our own sons and daughters in positions, let nobody should blame the North for wickedness. Not again.

Pained I went to the studio and came with another song  titled ZIMO in which I called our leaders to cut loose the rope of slavery, poverty, tied on the lives of the people. The hunger became unbearable. The people became slaves in their own land. The people that supposed to be celebrating their prosperity and freedom today are in abject poverty and darkness. Nobody cared about us, cried late Michael Jackson. Truly nobody cares about the Bayelsa of our dream. Nobody.

They say if you want to know the sufferings of your people, you should come down to mix with them, after all, we are all brothers. I have been in Bayelsa for two weeks and what I saw concerning the people were indescribable. I could not help but to assist almost 10m, with over 20 people with the sum of 500k each, for hospital bills and poverty alleviation.

Our political leaders, please this is not funny, ZIMO. Our Federal Ministers and Senators be your brother's keepers and ZIMO. Our Governor of Bayelsa State, this is no longer funny, move around and see the people wallowing in poverty in the dark, ZIMO. This is no time for politics, this is the bitter truth facing the state, please ZIMO. I know no big man will understand the people crying for light in their black out because they have their generators giving light every night and day. I weep when I go around the state.

Please I beg our leaders,  ZIMO!

PANDEF CALLS FOR URGENT PRESIDENTIAL INTERVENTION ON ITU-CALABAR ROAD IN HONOUR OF LATE SENATOR JOSEPH WAYAS

PANDEF CALLS FOR URGENT PRESIDENTIAL INTERVENTION  ON ITU-CALABAR ROAD IN HONOUR OF LATE SENATOR JOSEPH WAYAS

In  Calabar, Thursday 28th November 2024

National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta FORUM (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Igali has called on the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently reverse the  neglect of the Itu-Calabar Road connecting Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. Speaking to newsmen on arrival at the UJ Usuene Airport, Calabar for the funeral of the top lawmaker after spending 4 hours on the 72km road, he decried  the situation of the road under succeeding administrations as a "criminal neglect”. The leader of the apex South-South's socio-political body stated that the road is presently one of the worst in  Nigeria, describing it as “a road where very little work is being done and as such, has become a death trap in which helpless Nigerian commuters struggle their way along with thousands of heavy duty trucks on the route.

On a day when Nigerians have gathered in Calabar to pay last respect to the Second Republic Senate President and leader of the National Assembly, PANDEF appealed  to Mr. President to prioritise the completion of the Itu-Calabar road by funding competent contractors as a fitting tribute to the memory of Senator Wayas.

Speaking, the PANDEF helmsman described Senator Wayas as a Nigerian patriot of a special class and appealed that his immediate area; i.e Akwa Ibom and Cross River states must not be allowed to continue to suffer.

Finally the PANDEF National Chairman thanked PRESIDENT Tinubu,  the President of the Senate, Chief Godswill Akpabio and the Governor of Cross River state, Senator Prince Bassey Otu for taking steps to accord the  late Senator Wayas a befitting interment.
