Anticipate the Book, “CRY FOR FREEDOM", Barrister Smooth's Contributions to Izon Nation Development-By PAN IZON WRITERS

Chapter 3

FREEDOM

Barrister Smooth is a freedom fighter. His popular melody FREEDOM is more than just a song, it was a revolution. It was about a people who had decided to say no to power. It was about a people who believed in their fundamental human rights.

With a precise control over the song, Barrister Smooth started with the Lord's prayer.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread,  give us this our daily bread, Amen!'

He then proceeded to appreciate those freedom fighters who had died in the war for the sake of the IZON Struggle.

Barrister Smooth is a town crier who cries like the crocodile. The first stanza of the song, he cried:

' Freedom,! Freedom! Oh Freedom!'

Notwithstanding one can feel his emotions as he brings into remembrance the patriots who had died with their families uncared for by the living.

Like a good fisherman, he throws the net of story telling around his parents.

' I Barrister had thought I had seen, but I am not. Daddy is this what you have been saying? Mummy, is this what you'd been saying? '

Then he spoke like Job in the Bible ' what my ears had heard, is different from what my eyes have seen.'

Then gradually he  opened the storyline, the beginning of the crises and delves into history.

It all started on 1st of October ,1996. The Izon man who have been praying for a Local Government Headquarters finally had his prayers answered from the creation of Warri South. But ignorantly he went to sleep not expecting any trouble. While sleeping, unknown to him, the enemy was planning and planting another thing.

The Warri South West Local Government Headquarters was situated at Ogbe Ijo comprising the following Izon clans-
Ogbe ijoh, Isaba  Gbaramatu, and Diebiri.

The elected Chairman was Chief Couple Oromoni and ten other councilors. They functioned for three months before it headquarters was aborted in 1997.

The Izons sensed a foul  play and that culminated into what was known as the Warri crises between the Izons and the Itsekiris.  To the Izons the deliberate plan to relocate the headquarters was a further evidence of the marginalisation of the people fuelled by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The leader of the Izon Nation, Pa Chief E. K. Clark stood up and spoke against the injustice done to the people. He forewarned trouble that the Izons would not accept the injustice until the Local Government headquarters was reversed. The Izon youths protested to shut in the flow stations in Delta state belonging to Shell ( SPDC).

In order to vent their anger against Pa. Clark, the Itsekiri youths mobilised and burnt down his house at No. 6 Baptist Mission road, Warri at around 3a.m on March 25th 1997. The security guard was assassinated by the culprits.

This incident further fuelled the crises. The tribal war escalated to 1998 where the Izon youths created more havoc by forcing the shut- in of about 508,000 barrels of crude oil in a day, roughly estimated as a quarter of the country's daily production rate. Shell and Chevron became the victims of the crises as the major companies affected.  As the damage continued the Nigerian government sent troops of soldiers to protect the oil companies. There was an heavy presence of military men in the area all to no avail. The disruption continued. The leaders under the banner of  'The  Niger Delta Oil Producing Communities Development Organisation'  (NIDOPCODO,) and Environmental Rights Action in Warri filled a lawsuit against Shell.  The suit was asking Shell to stop the production of works and pay for compensation to the communities due to environmental degradation caused by Shell's  constant pipeline spills.
The song FREEDOM captured the essence of the war and the position of the Izons at that time. As always  Smooth took the war to a different dimension sending message to the outside world how the Izons were being oppressed by the government of the day against their own fundamental rights, and against their own itsekiri brothers in the Niger Delta.

He cried and continued to cry for the oil wells in the Niger Delta region owned by outsiders. He cried for the land destroyed by oil exploration and exploitation. He cried over a blessed tribe yet living in abject poverty.

" Where we passed our unwanted body waste, the same water we drink from. Oh freedom is our goal!" He musical artiste cried.

The freedom of the Izon Nation to Chief Barrister Smooth is indeed a fundamental human aspiration, encompassing the ability to make choices, express oneself, and live without oppression or restraint.

To him, Freedom is a human need, a multifaceted concept, encompassing various aspects, such as:

1. Personal freedom: The ability to make choices about one's life, such as education, career, and relationships.

2. Political freedom: The right to participate in the political process, vote, and express opinions without fear of retribution.

3. Economic freedom. The ability to pursue economic opportunities, own property, and enjoy financial security.

4. Social freedom: The freedom to associate with others, form communities, and enjoy social and cultural activities without discrimination or persecution, and all these things are needed by the Izons as a people.

"The pursuit of freedom has driven human history, inspiring movements for independence, civil rights, and social justice and the Izon Nation cannot stand aside and look as if they are slaves" he said.

The tune FREEDOM is a pointer to revolution fanning the embers of the Niger Delta Struggle into explosive flames of reality. The people wailed, walked and wallowed in pains and penury while waiting to be freed.

"When will it be Uhuru", "When will our waterways be purified", "Where is the dividends of democracy", "Where are the benefits of the host communities", "Why are our politicians carried away by the pleasures of power" creating mayhem and manipulations, setting our people against one another. All these had become a burden for the people who prayed all day for a Messiah."

Before long, a vibrant and vehement voice was amplified speaking the minds of the people in songs that turn into messages for millions of men. Barrister Smooth like other international stars used the microphone and his music platform to salvage the scary situations of the time.

A cock may belong to a particular household, but when it crows, the entire community hears and so was the case of the Ijaw music star  who from a small community of Enekorougha  in Delta turned a master of his craft using his talent to transform towns and territories. The music legend of Ijaw extraction had become a global voice and peace ambassador.

Smooth took the centre stage over the fight for freedom as we have read and seen. He has remained a bulwark to the Niger Delta Struggle and the regional stability of our country. Suffice to say his dreams for a peaceful Niger Delta had become a reality. Today, his desires are broadened into becoming an outreach through his songs by reminding our leaders to do more for the people in terms of poverty alleviation and the overall welfare of the State.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience,  but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy" MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

It was in times like this, a period really dark and a little red that High Chief Government Tompolo Ekpemupolo and other warlords would lend their support in making sure the physical combats were in their favour. No stone was left unturned in the struggle and fight for freedom. While men were fast asleep in the middle of the nights, these warriors kept their watch taking upon themselves the burden of freedom.

They said NO to the weights of humiliation, oppression, repression, manipulation and slavery. Arise! Arise!! Arise !!! Sleeping giant. The clarion call for freedom echoed through the hinterlands, interior communities and cities of the Niger Delta. The sounds of songs from Smooth strengthened our soldiers who stood thier grounds for justice and peace. It became a wakeup call to live right. Smooth passed on history to the next generation, transferring our culture, shared history and struggle.

The bonds of unity were strengthened each time the timbrels, trombone, talking drums, guitars and piano is played. Men and women are gathered beyond tribe and boundaries, colour and class, the Ijaws and Itsekiris, Urhobos and Isokos, the Idoma and Tiv, Ikweres and Igbos, men and women from all races would put their differences behind as they listen to Smooth whose call for unity is echoed across regions.

The dangling movement of the waist - stretching and sliding to the left, right and centre by the group of dancers reflect a dose of our cultural differences, while the firm grip of the foot to the ground in the midst of all manners of body movement reveals we can live as one not minding our differences.

Just the same way the dangling waist would rely on the firm grip of the toes for a balance, so it is with every tribe and group relying on one another for a communal and collective progress.

After a period of disagreement, a little dangling to the left, movement to the right and and centre, the crisis came to an end as the Warri South West Local Government Area was relocated to Ogbe Ijoh - its original location. Both parties had to sheath their swords and allowed for peace. Today, the Warri metropolis and the Niger Delta region had become a commercial hub for business to thrive, attracting foreign investment and tourism because a man like Barrister Smooth spoke.

However some notable forces contributed to the peace process in the Warri crises in Delta state.

The Ijaw and Itsekiri crisis, which began in 1996, gradually subsided through a combination of government interventions, peace initiatives, and community-led reconciliation efforts.

Some key milestones that contributed to the resolution of the crisis include:

1. 1998: Peace Accord: A peace accord was signed between the Ijaw and Itsekiri leaders, facilitated by the Nigerian government and international organizations.

2. 2000: Establishment of the Delta State Government's Peace Committee*: The committee, chaired by the Delta State Governor, worked to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and development in the affected areas.

3. 2003: Launch of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC): The NDDC, established by the Nigerian government, aimed to address the socio-economic challenges facing the Niger Delta region, including the areas affected by the Ijaw-Itsekiri crisis.

While these efforts helped to reduce tensions and promote reconciliation, the region still experiences periodic outbreaks of violence and unrest. Ongoing initiatives need to put in focus on sustainable development, conflict prevention, and community engagement to ensure lasting peace.

Just-ln: IYC Drags Gov Oborevwori over Neglect of Delta ljaw Community's Development, Warms up for All Mother Protest lf

...... He fails to address Ayakoromo bridge project, Burutu Marine Polytechnic, Ogulagha/Odimodi, Ohoroh/Bomadi, Torugbene/Ojobo, Erhowa/Abari road projects within one month time

In what it described as political strangulation and suffocation of the ljaw people in the State, the ljaw Youth Council, lYC Worldwide through the National Spokesman, Amb. Princewill Binebai has called on the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to as a matter of urgency address the deliberate marginalization of Delta ljaw Communities in terms of physical infrastructural and human capital development having massively supported and voted him into office in the 2023 general elections.
Amb. Binebai made the distress call on Tuesday 4th February, 2025 at the abandoned permanent site of Delta State Marine Polytechnic Burutu lsland, during a world press briefing urged governor Oborevwori to expedite action to complete Ayakoromo bridge project, construction of Delta State Marine Polytechnic Burutu permanent site, Ogulagha/Odimodi road, Ohoroh/Bomadi road, Erhowa/Abari road, upgrade lsena-lbe Teacher Training College Bomadi to a University, establish legal backing for the new Directorate for Riverine lnfrastructural Development Agency like that of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, correct the political abnormality in Warri North LGA by giving one State Commissioner appointment to the Egbema ljaws, appointment of ljaw youths who supported him in the 2023 general elections among others for his own interest as well as to ensure fairness and justice in the system.
The ljaw youth council further stressed that it will remain apolitical in its activities by maintaining peace, law and order but will consistently advocate for truth to power that be, and mobilize for the defense of their people when necessary.
IYC however, gives governor Oborevwori one month grace to holistically address the issues highlighted in this press statement with all seriousness before they escalate to the street for a 'Mother of all Protest' against perceived ethnic biased in the state.
Read below full details of the statement:

Press Briefing Held in Burutu by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide Over Perceived Deliberate Neglect and Underdevelopment of Ijaw Areas in Delta State by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

4/02/2025

The Ijaw Youth Council, a leading youth movement in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large, is saddled with the responsibility of speaking truth to power while protecting and advocating for the rights and better living conditions of the Ijaw people across the globe. We are compelled to address this press briefing due to the alarming situation of deliberate neglect and underdevelopment of Ijaw areas in Delta State.

It is no longer news that Governor Oborevwori's government will be two years old by May 2025. The IYC has closely and keenly followed, monitored, and observed the developmental strides and political activities of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Despite our political and economic contributions to the state and the emergence of Governor Oborevwori, the Ijaws are yet to see any concrete project that could be considered a landmark achievement for the Ijaw people in Delta State.

We are beginning to perceive the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as a Governor who lacks developmental plans or an agenda for the Ijaws. His projects have been viewed as highly sentimental and against all known principles of fairness, justice, and equity. They appear to be twisted and skewed against the Ijaws of Delta State. The Ijaws cannot continue to be disproportionately burdened while others benefit from our contributions.

The IYC is stating clearly that we cannot continue to be micromanaged by the Governor of Delta State.  There is a need to balance his administration, ensuring that all ethnic groups in Delta State have a sense of belonging. Delta State belongs to all of us, and the Ijaw ethnic group is a serious stakeholder in the state. We must be given reasonable attention in terms of development, youth empowerment, and other areas to atone for our contributions toward the emergence of Oborevwori as Governor of Delta State, considering our political and economic contributions.

As a council, we have keenly followed the 2024 and 2025 budgets of the Delta State Government under Oborevwori's watch. Apart from the lack of full implementation of the 2024 budget, there is no adequate provision for the Ijaw people. Instead, we see a repetition of projects that could have been addressed in the previous budget.

●Developmental Attention Be Given To The Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu

We are using this press conference to call on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently pay serious attention to the Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, the only state-owned tertiary institution in Delta Ijaw land. The Polytechnic was established by an act of the Delta State House of Assembly in 2006 and began functioning in 2011. However, from 2011 till date, there is no structure that the Delta State Government has been able to complete at the permanent site. Snakes, reptiles, overgrown weeds, and all forms of dangerous creatures now inhabit the vast expanse of land donated to the school. This is worrisome, especially considering that within months of the establishment of the Southern Delta University at Orerokpe, gigantic structures are now visible everywhere. We need the same energy to be transferred to the long-standing Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu.

●Completion Of Ayakoromo Bridge, Long Overdue

For us, it is becoming shameful that the Delta State Government is deliberately manipulating the Ijaw people by deliberately abandoning the Ayakoromo bridge. From Uduaghan to Okowa and from Okowa to Oborevwori, the bridge remains a political subject of debate. What does it really cost for Governor Oborevwori to fix this bridge for the Ijaw people?  We are worried if there is something the government is not telling us. We have never seen anywhere in the world where a project fights this hard to come to fruition. The IYC will not tolerate any further delay of this project.

● The Urgent Need To Fix The Ohoro-Bomadi, Torugbene-Ojobo Road Projects

Moreover, the Ohoro-Bomadi Road as well as Torugbene-Ojobo Road projects should be given serious attention. It is unfair that all these projects, so vital to the Ijaw people, have remained unattended to by the Delta State Government, particularly Oborevwori's administration.

The Ijaw people are also calling on the Delta State Government to send an executive Bill to the Delta State House of Assembly for the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development, Delta State to be permanently backed by law, like the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Special Area Development Agency and the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency.

● Correction Of Poltical Anomaly In Warri North

The IYC urges the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to urgently correct the political error in Warri North Local Government Area.  Only Itsekiris were given the two commissioner slots, whereas it is a local government purely dominated by the Ijaws of Egbema and the Itsekiris. This is highly unfair and a political anomaly that needs correction.

●Ijaw Youths Who Worked For Governor Oborevwori Should Benefit Like Others

A significant number of Ijaw youths who toiled and worked for the emergence of Oborevwori as Governor are yet to be appointed to serve in any capacity. Perhaps their crime is that they are from Ijaw, hence they should not benefit. This is appalling, especially when their counterparts from other ethnic stocks, who did not do more than they did during the elections, are thriving in his government. The Ijaw youths have been so neglected.

● A State Owned University In Ogulagha Kingdom

As critical stakeholders in Delta State, if our oil money is used to fund various institutions and projects in Delta State, we demand that Ogulagha Kingdom should have a state-owned university as compensation for the many years of oil revenue accruing to the Delta State coffers and the country at large from Ogulagha Kingdom and other Ijaw areas in Delta State.

● A Tertitary Institution In Bomadi

The growing population in Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, makes it imperative for the Delta State Government to either convert the ancient Isena-ibe Teacher Training College to either a Polytechnic or University to meet the educational needs of Deltans in the area. Bomadi is a rallying settlement for most of the Ijaw people in Delta, Bayelsa, and beyond. We demand that a tertiary institution be established in Bomadi considering the political contribution of the good people of Bomadi towards the growth and development of Delta State.

Finally, in view of the foregoing, the Ijaw Youth Council is giving the Delta State Government one month, beginning from the day of this publication to address the issues raised, failure to do so within the one month period, the IYC will converge in our large numbers to pass a vote of no confidence on the Governor and to also match our words with action by declaring the mother of all protest against the Governor. We pray that these issues are fixed before things deteriorate to that level, where the falcon can no longer hear the falconer. Let it be on record that the development of Ijaw areas in Delta State going forward is  not going to be business as usual for some people.

Signed.
Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill,
Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide.

Delta State Governance, Budget 2024/2025: The Neglect of Delta Ijaw Communities and the Ayakoromo Bridge Saga_ lBy Saibakumo Williams Jnr

Delta State Governance, Budget 2024/2025: The Neglect of Delta Ijaw Communities and the Ayakoromo Bridge Saga_ lBy Saibakumo Williams Jnr

Good morning all !!!

Delta State, one of Nigeria’s oil-producing states, plays a crucial role in the country’s economic landscape. Despite contributing significantly to the national revenue, the Ijaw communities in the state remain grossly underdeveloped. The 2024 and 2025 budgets of Delta State reflect a pattern of neglect, as no significant projects have been assigned to the Delta Ijaw communities. The most glaring example of this systemic abandonment is the 12-year-old Ayakoromo Bridge project, which remains uncompleted, affecting multiple communities in Burutu and Bomadi Local Government Areas. This infrastructure deficit, coupled with worsening social services, exposes the failure of governance in Delta State.

Delta State Budget 2024 and 2025: A Pattern of Neglect

The Delta State budgets for 2024 and 2025, like previous ones, continue to sideline the Ijaw communities in terms of meaningful development projects. The allocation of funds disproportionately favors urban centers like Asaba, Warri, and Ughelli, while riverine and oil-producing communities remain neglected. The lack of significant infrastructural projects in these areas is not just an economic injustice but also a clear indication of political marginalization.
For decades, the Delta Ijaw people have endured poor road networks, lack of potable water, inadequate healthcare facilities, and collapsing educational institutions. Yet, the state government continues to prioritize projects that cater to elite interests while ignoring the very communities that generate the wealth sustaining the state. The 2024 and 2025 budgets offer no transformative development blueprint for Ijaw land, leaving the people to suffer from decades-long infrastructural decay and environmental degradation caused by oil exploration.

The Ayakoromo Bridge: A 12-Year-Old Abandoned Promise

One of the most glaring symbols of Delta State’s neglect is the Ayakoromo Bridge project. Initiated during the Uduaghan administration, the bridge was meant to connect several Ijaw communities in Burutu and Bomadi LGAs, easing transportation, boosting commerce, and fostering regional integration. Over a decade later, the project remains incomplete, with successive administrations offering only lip service and token allocations in the budget that never translate into meaningful progress.

The failure to complete the Ayakoromo Bridge has dire consequences for the affected communities. Without a proper bridge, movement between Burutu, Bomadi, and neighboring areas remains arduous, relying on expensive and risky water transport. This situation stifles economic growth, hinders access to healthcare, and deprives students of proper educational opportunities. The bridge is not just an infrastructure project—it is a lifeline for thousands of people who continue to suffer due to government negligence.

Social Infrastructure Decay in Ijaw Land

Beyond the bridge, Delta Ijaw communities face a deepening crisis of infrastructural collapse. Schools in many riverine areas lack teachers, learning materials, and proper facilities, leaving children at a disadvantage compared to their peers in urban centers. Health centers are underfunded, with many lacking doctors, essential drugs, and functional medical equipment. Roads, where they exist, are in deplorable conditions, making transportation both difficult and expensive.

Another major issue is the environmental destruction caused by oil exploration, which has resulted in pollution, loss of livelihoods, and health hazards. Yet, rather than investing in environmental remediation and sustainable development, the government remains indifferent, allowing multinational oil companies to exploit these communities with little accountability.

The Nonchalant Attitude of Delta Leaders

One of the most frustrating aspects of this neglect is the complacency of political leaders from the Ijaw region. Instead of demanding infrastructural development and economic empowerment for their people, many of these leaders are more interested in securing political appointments for personal gain. Rather than pushing for the completion of the Ayakoromo Bridge or championing development initiatives, they settle for minor appointments—mere “porridge recipes” that do nothing to uplift their communities.

This culture of political patronage has allowed successive administrations to ignore the Ijaw people’s needs without consequence. Leaders who should be advocating for their people’s rights are instead focused on personal political survival, leaving the communities to fend for themselves. This betrayal by local political elites further compounds the suffering of the Ijaw people, as there is no strong internal pressure to hold the government accountable.

Conclusion: The Urgent Need for Action

The continued neglect of the Ijaw communities in Delta State, as reflected in the 2024 and 2025 budgets, is a glaring injustice that must be addressed. The completion of the Ayakoromo Bridge should be prioritized, alongside the provision of basic infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, education, and electricity. The Ijaw people must also demand accountability from their leaders, rejecting those who prioritize personal benefits over community development.

It is time for the government of Delta State to recognize that true development is inclusive and equitable. The Ijaw people deserve more than empty promises—they deserve action, commitment, and tangible improvements in their living conditions. If this systemic neglect continues, the consequences will not only be economic but also political, as the growing frustration of the people could lead to stronger resistance against the state’s continued marginalization of its most resource-rich but underdeveloped communities.

Power of Your Mind’ Conference: Kingsley Otuaro Ignites a Mental Revolution Among Delta Youth

With a resounding message of mind renewal and success, H.E. Kingsley Otuaro has led a historic gathering of students in Asaba, challenging them to embrace positive thinking, faith, and personal growth as keys to greatness. drawing students from Oshimili North and South Local Government Areas.

The conference, organized in partnership with the Loveworld Teens and Youth Ministry, Ministry Centre Warri, was designed to equip young minds with principles of success, leadership, and personal transformation. Inspired by Power of Your Mind, a book by world-renowned spiritual leader Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the event focused on the power of thought, mental discipline, and aligning one’s life with God’s purpose.
Empowering Young Minds Through Biblical Principles

Addressing the students, H.E. Kingsley Otuaro emphasized the importance of mind renewal, citing Romans 12:2, which urges believers to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. He underscored the significance of mental discipline in overcoming life’s challenges.

"Your mind is your most powerful asset; it determines the course of your life. If you allow negative thoughts to dominate, you will struggle. But when you fill your mind with faith, vision, and purpose, you will rise to greatness," Otuaro declared.
He further quoted Proverbs 23:7, reinforcing that a person’s life is a reflection of their dominant thoughts. At a time when many prioritize financial gain, Otuaro’s commitment to investing in the mental empowerment of young people stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to building the next generation of leaders.

Key Takeaways from the Conference

The conference featured impactful teachings, interactive sessions, and motivational guidance, offering students practical tools to unlock their potential. Some of the key lessons imparted included:

Mind Management Determines Destiny – Quoting Philippians 4:8, Otuaro emphasized that success begins with the thoughts we cultivate.
The Power of Thought in Shaping Reality – Referencing Isaiah 26:3, he encouraged students to focus on God’s Word and purpose rather than distractions.

Education Beyond the Classroom – He explained that while academic learning is crucial, spiritual wisdom and character-building are equally essential for a balanced life.

Faith and Mental Transformation – Encouraging students to meditate on Joshua 1:8, he highlighted that true success comes from aligning one’s life with God’s teachings.

A Record-Breaking Youth Empowerment Event

With over 8,000 participants, the Power of Your Mind Conference has set a new benchmark for youth development gatherings in Delta State. Many attendees described the event as life-changing, gaining fresh perspectives on their future.

Miss Chidinma Eze, a senior secondary student, shared:
"This conference has changed my mindset forever. I now realize that my thoughts shape my future, and I will start being more intentional about my thinking."
Similarly, Master John Okafor noted:
"I never knew my thoughts had so much power. From today, I will apply what I have learned and think only on positive and godly things."

---

Otuaro’s Continued Commitment to Youth Development

Despite not holding public office, H.E. Kingsley Otuaro remains deeply invested in the future of young Nigerians, channeling his personal resources into empowering students with knowledge and vision.

"The future of our country is in the hands of these young ones. If we can guide their minds and thoughts at an early age, they will grow into responsible, innovative, and successful individuals who will shape our society for the better," Otuaro remarked.

He also expressed gratitude to the Loveworld Teens and Youth Ministry, Ministry Centre Warri, for their dedication to youth empowerment and encouraged other stakeholders to support similar initiatives.

A Spirit-Filled Conclusion with Testimony Jaga

The conference ended on a high note with a powerful performance by renowned gospel singer Testimony Jaga, whose energetic and faith-inspiring music left the students uplifted. His electrifying performance filled the atmosphere with joy, dancing, and renewed faith, perfectly concluding an event designed to empower both the minds and spirits of the next generation.

Building a Strong Foundation for National Development

Featured Article: That Asupa Who Fled Ayakoromo_By Ekanpou Enewaridideke

It appears this is a season politicians have chosen to flee from one place to another  -  sometimes on whimsical thoughts and wings!
Two prominent politicians fled Ayakoromo on the 25th of January 2025. Rather rigorously there were feeble attempts to deny and cover up this flight by some vested interests but everything has fizzled out. It is chronicled everywhere that Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi and Hon. Forteta Peter Asupa recently fled  Ayakoromo on the day of the famous Olorogun Masquerade Carnival with multicoloured bags laden with logically strong excuses. For Hon. Asupa his dramatic flight to Warri came when he was told the Olorogun Masquerade was on the verge of coming out to display. For Rt.Hon. Pondi he fled to the river away from the shoreline marked for Olorogun's dramatic performance and watched the dramatics from the safety of River Forcados on a speedboat, mesmerised to the extent that people who followed his flight were equally mesmerised beyond the power of words. Great politicians they are because they all bowed differently to the performance dramatics of the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun whose credos and ideals  they didn't want to trample upon sacrilegiously with hubris.
Before Hon. Asupa hurriedly fled Ayakoromo in frightened homage to the famous Olorogun masquerade, the G4 of ward seven  -  an ideologically dedicated collection of thinkers in Ayakoromo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State  -  narratively brought to Asupa's consciousness what he seemed to have forgotten like someone who feasted wholly  on flesh in a given pot of soup ladled into a plate for a meal.

Developmentally in a rare moment of 'appreciative epiphany' the G4 revealed narratively that it was Asupa who renovated the Ayakoromo Community Hall away from the  ravaging annual attacks of flood just as it was the same Asupa of Africa who had  architecturally inspiring blocks of classrooms built at Omotimipere Primary School, Akparemogbene, and Serikoromo Primary School, Oyangbene, in addition to identified number of political appointments he had influenced in ward seven and beyond. Right before him the G4 unambiguously held that Asupa was a king of philanthropy  -  a verifiable philanthropy attested to by the huge amount of money he showered on the Olorogun carnival and the Ayakoromo community on the 25th of January 2025.

In the thinking of the ideologically dedicated G4 Hon. Asupa has not been reciprocally recognised for his developmental strides in ward seven and beyond. It was this void and vacuum in reciprocal recognition  in relation to Asupa's developmental strides the G4 has emerged like frolicsome dolphins on the surface of River Niger, in celebratory recognition of Asupa the political motor-saw of Africa.
Moved to the marrow of their entire anatomy the G4 has appreciatively named Asupa the Development Ambassador because physiologically and anatomically, development of people and communities is the identity mark of Hon. Forteta Peter Asupa. As narrated chronologically by G4, Asupa deserves to be celebrated for his developmental strides as a former
Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area, former Honourable Commissioner  and former member of the Delta State House of Assembly whose developmental contours can be traced in Ayakoromo, Akparemogbene and Oyangbene  -  even if cartographically!

The thoughts of G4 which were narratively anchored saw Asupa presented with an appreciative plaque as the DEVELOPMENT AMBASSADOR on the 25th of January 2025 at Ayakoromo on a day the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun Carnival was billed to be celebrated with pomp and pageantry. In response Asupa danced and joyously took photographs with Ayakoromites but fled unceremoniously when he was informed the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun Masquerade was on the way to tell its story of performance to the admiration of spectators.

With the great thoughts the G4 narratively shared on Asupa which eventuated in his  appreciative coronation as the DEVELOPMENT AMBASSADOR, it is incomprehensible why Asupa fled Ayakoromo on a day he was honoured.Who should be blamed? Asupa who fled Ayakoromo before Olorogun emerged? Or the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun Masquerade celebrated for merciless dexterous wielding of its OGIDI the protective weapon of Olorogun?

Memorably, Asupa has created history as the first former Honourable member of the Delta State House of Assembly to be honoured with an award as the DEVELOPMENT AMBASSADOR on the day of the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun Carnival. Asupa has also been chronicled as the first G4 honouree to fear the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun Masquerade in incomprehensible cultural deferrence and flee hurriedly to Warri without a glimpse of the performance dexterity of the Ayakoromo Olorogun Masquerade. Kudos to Hon. Asupa for his developmental strides and kudos to G4 for reciprocal recognition of Asupa's developmental strides on the day of the famous Ayakoromo Olorogun Carnival!

LETTER OF GRATITUDE TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU GCFR, FOR SIGNING INTO LAW THE ACT ESTABLISHING THE NIGERIA MARITIME UNIVERSITY, OKERENKOKO, DELTA STATE

His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR,
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Aso Rock Villa,
Abuja.

DEAR MR. PRESIDENT, WE CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS HEART-WARMING GESTURE

I am writing on behalf of the good people of the Niger Delta, especially, His Magesty Pere Oboro- Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba,
Council of Chiefs and proud citizens of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State,
to express our most profound gratitude and reverence, for your historic endorsement of the 2025 ACT, establishing the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.

It gave full legal backing to the institution, a validation we can’t find enough words to express appreciation.

This magnanimous gesture, thus symbolizes your goodwill towards the region and the unwavering commitment to the advancement of learning and development of its people.

It is an act that came in the nick of time, when all hope was almost exhausted.

Thank you Mr. President, you touched base with us, with this act of courage.

The Nigeria Maritime University Okerenkoko, established in 2014, has been existence, but the absence of an enabling Act hindered its full operationalization and potentials.

For a decade, the institution functioned, but without full legal status. It was on a life support, gasping for desired breath to stay alive.

Therefore, your unexpected approval and signing of the Bill into law caught us unaware and brought with it a total feeling of euphoria.

Now, the ACT will provide the necessary legal framework for the university to thrive.

This milestone ratification will undoubtedly promote education not only amongst indigenes of the Niger Delta, but Nigeria in its entirety, bridging the knowledge gap in the nation’s maritime sector.

Nothing skips Mr. President’s constantly roving attention.
As you are aware, Ghana was the only country in the West African subregion with a Maritime University. As it is, your visionary stewardship has bridged this gap, and Nigeria is now poised to improve its capacity and manpower in the maritime sector.

The university will not only bring development to the oil and gas communities in the Niger Delta, but also curb the pervading youth restiveness in the region. It will create employment opportunities for our teeming youths, and others across the country.

The objectives of the university, as outlined in the Act, align with your administration’s commitment to encouraging the advancement of learning, developing and offering academic and professional programmes, and promoting research and innovation.

Mr. President, your signing of the Bill into law is indeed a testament to your friendship and dedication to the growth and development of the South/South zone .

Indeed, it authenticates and validates your mantra of RENEWED HOPE, for all Nigerians, no matter where they are domiciled.

I recalled that when you visited Oporoza, the ancestral headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, on Friday, November 25th, 2022, you made a pledge to our people to sign the Act establishing the university into law upon your election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This is promise made and promise fulfilled.

Once again, let me express our sincere appreciation for this landmark achievement.

Your leadership has rekindled enthusiasm amongst Niger Deltans.

It’s on this note that I also wish to congratulate and salute all of us in the South/South belt. Mr. President has done this for all of us. Let us continue to sustain the prevailing peace in our region and unite behind Mr. President in order to attract more development strides to our zone.

Our dear Iyelawei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, we are confident that your government will continue to prioritize the development of the Niger Delta.

Your Excellency, sir, you have in this regard engraved your name in the hearts of the citizens of the Niger Delta, through this decision.

Please accept the assurances of our highest esteem and unwavering support for your administration.

Yours sincerely,

HIGH CHIEF (DR.) GOVERNMENT OWEIZIDE EKPEMUPOLO (ALIAS TOMPOLO) IBE-EBIDOUWEI OF IJAW NATION & CHAIRMAN, TANTITA SECURITY SERVICES NIGERIA LIMITED (TSSNL).

US President, Donald Trump Sacks Team Of Lawyers Who Prosecuted Him

US President, Donald Trump Sacks Team Of Lawyers Who Prosecuted Him

United States President, Donald Trump, on Monday, sacked more than a dozen Justice Department lawyers who brought two criminal cases against him.

The officials were sacked after the Acting Attorney General, James McHenry, a Trump appointee, concluded that they could not be trusted to faithfully implement the President’s agenda because of their significant role in prosecuting the President.

According to the termination letter, McHenry cited Trump’s power as chief executive under the U.S. Constitution to justify the firings.

It was gathered that the lawyers worked with Special Counsel, Jack Smith, who led the two federal prosecutions of Trump that the department dropped after his November election.
Smith, however, resigned from the department earlier this month.

The sacking came the same day that Ed Martin, the top federal prosecutor in Washington and a Trump appointee, opened an internal review into the use of a felony obstruction charge in prosecutions of people accused of taking part in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The U.S. Supreme Court raised the legal bar for that offense in a 6-3 ruling last year, prompting prosecutors to drop the charge in several cases.

The moves reflect a willingness by the Trump administration to follow through on threats to seek retribution against prosecutors who pursued Trump and his supporters during his four years out of office.

Trump and his allies view the Justice Department with deep suspicion after prosecutors accused the president of national security- and election-related crimes.

The move came after the Trump administration already assigned up to 20 senior career Justice Department officials, including Bradley Weinsheimer, the top ethics official, and the former chief of the public corruption section, Corey Amundson, from their roles.

Amundson, whose section provided advice to Smith’s prosecutors, announced his resignation on Monday.

The moves to shake up the Justice Department’s workforce have happened before the U.S. Senate votes on Trump’s attorney general nominee, Pam Bondi.

Bondi’s nomination is set to be voted on by a Senate panel on Wednesday.
CN reports that Smith, who was appointed by former Attorney General, Merrick Garland, brought cases accusing Trump of illegally retaining classified documents at his Florida social club and attempting to interfere with the certification of the 2020 election.

However, Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges, arguing that the cases reflected a weaponization of the legal system.

Smith dropped both cases after Trump’s election, citing a longtime-policy against prosecuting a sitting president.
