In a decisive move to fast-track infrastructural development and fulfill a promise to riverine communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced early 2027 as the definitive completion date for the Ayakoromo Bridge project.

The Governor noted that the critical project had suffered years of uncertainty and delays, but stressed that he was committed to ensuring its completion as scheduled.
He made this declaration during an inspection visit to the site of the Ayakoromo Bridge across the Forcados River, along with the 3km approach road at Egbo-Ide in Ughelli-South and Burutu local government areas.

"I am confident the contractor will deliver as promised, but I have also directed them to accelerate the pace of work. This bridge is crucial for connecting surrounding villages.

"As you can see, the people are excited even though they were not informed of my visit. This shows how important the bridge is to the two communities and others in the area."
Earlier, the Governor visited the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project in Warri South Local Government Area.

He remarked that the project would enhance connectivity and create economic opportunities for both urban and rural dwellers.

"This project is vital to our people because it connects us with those in rural areas and expands opportunities.

"I was here in September 2024, and I am back again for inspection. I believe that by early next year, this project will be inaugurated, as it has already been delayed for nearly 19 years.

"We will no longer tolerate delays beyond project timelines. Under our MORE Agenda, we have committed to doing more for Deltans, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," he said.

Governor Oborevwori announced the construction of two jetties in the area and explained that, due to the rainy season, the construction company is allowing the newly sand-filled areas to settle for road stability.

Just-ln: NJC suspends Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division over Controversial Judgements

Justice lnyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja Division has been suspended for one year without pay. In addition, he was placed on the Council’s Watch List and barred from elevation for five years.

If Nigeria has judges like him just 5, the whole country would be on fire. This is a man who delivers judgement without listening to the other parties.

He's like Justice Okon Abang and former Justice, Justice Egbo Egbo! These characters are so corrupt that the court is a centre for cash and carry. They rule with impunity and feel they are untameable. They are tyrants in the temple of justice whose only mission is desecrating it and trampling on the rights of the weak and those who cannot afford their bills.

They shall continue to be disgraced by themselves and put into the dustbin of history...

Just-ln: Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri Commend INEC Fieldwork Report, Urge the Electoral Umpire to Conclude the Fresh Delineation Exercise in Warri Federal Constituency Without Further Delay

Francis Tayor

In reaction to the INEC report of the fieldwork on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units as ordered by the Supreme Court in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State, the ljaws and Urhobos of Warri has commended the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the steps taken so far towards complying with the Supreme Court order on fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency, while calling on the electoral umpire to conclude the process without further delay, stressing that any attempt to change the ljaw and Urhobo majority status in Warri North, Warri South-West and Warri South Local Government Areas respectively would be disastrous.
In a statement issued after a joint Press Briefing by the ljaws and Urhobos of Warri Federal Constituency on Wednesday 30th April, 2025 in Warri, and signed for on behalf of the ljaws and Urhobos of Warri, Hon. Denbo-Denbofa Oweikpodo, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, Hon. Arthur Akpodubakaye, Joel Bisina, PhD, Comrade Emmanuel lgetei, Chief. John Eranvor, Chief. Westham Adehor (JP), Olorogun Victor Okumagba (JP) and Hon. Mark Ikpuri has equivocally oppose to the agitation of the ltsekiri ethnic nationality to use non-existent register of voters as a basis to carry out the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units, adding that the agitation is against the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Electoral Act, 2022, the INEC Guidelines dated the 21st day of March, 2024 and the essence of the fieldwork on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units.
The ljaws and Urhobos of Warri emphasized that the primary consideration for the delineation of electoral wards and polling units is the population quota/number of inhabitants and other physical consideration of the areas concerned, adding that based on the Supreme Court order on fresh delineation of wards and polling units, there is no longer any existing register of voters in the Warri Federal Constituency upon which any activity can be predicated upon.

They however, urged INEC to stick to the law and its Guidelines and not to succumb to the antics of ltsekiri blackmail and misleading agitations to rely on register of voters, rather on the field work carried out by INEC and other existing records which clearly revealed the majority population status of the ljaws and Urhobos in the Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West LGAs respectively.

IJAWS AND URHOBOS OF WARRI

April 30, 2025

JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE IJAWS AND URHOBOS OF WARRI ON THE REPORT OF THE FIELD WORK ON THE FRESH DELINEATION OF ELECTORAL WARDS AND POLLING UNITS, AND THREATS TO PEACE AND SECURITY IN THE WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY OF DELTA STATE, THIS 30TH DAY OF APRIL, 2025.

Gentlemen of the press, this joint press conference was called by the Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State consisting of Warri North, Warri South and Warri South West Local Government Areas to state our joint position on the report of the fieldwork on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units as ordered by the Supreme Court and recent report of threat to peace and security arising from the fresh delineation.

COMMENDATION AND CALL ON INEC TO CONCLUDE THE FRESH DELINEATION BEFORE ANY FUTURE ELECTORAL ACTIVITY IN COMPLIANCE WITH SUPREME COURT ORDER:

The Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the steps taken so far towards complying with the Supreme Court order on fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State.
We note that, in a bid to frustrate the implementation of the Supreme Court order, the Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality filed multiple suits in different Divisions of the Federal High Court of Nigeria. However, INEC has demonstrated its commitment and respect for the rule of law by taking necessary steps to comply with the Supreme Court order on the fresh delineation.
In this respect, we welcome the release of the report of the fieldwork on the fresh delineation by INEC. We further note that, the report of the fieldwork by INEC confirms the obvious fact on ground, which is that, the Ijaws constitute the majority population in Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government Areas, while the Urhobos constitute the majority population in Warri South Local Government Area. We commend INEC for standing by the truth and justice.
We therefore call on INEC to complete the process of the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency and release its final decision without further delay.
It is the position of the Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri that, there should not be any electoral activity including registration of voters in the Warri Federal Constituency without completion of the fresh delineation as ordered by the Supreme Court. Our position is predicated on the ground that, without completion of the fresh delineation exercise, there are no existing electoral wards and polling units upon which any electoral activity can be predicated upon, including registration of voters.

OUR POSITION ON THE ITSEKIRI CALL FOR THE USE OF VOTERS REGISTER TO CARRY OUT THE FRESH DELINEATION:

The Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri note the agitation of the Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality against the report of the field work on the basis that, the register of voters which existed before the Supreme Court ordered fresh delineation ought to be used as a basis to carry out the fresh delineation.
We equivocally oppose the agitation for the use of non-existent register of voters as basis to carry out the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units. The agitation is against the 1999 Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Act, 2022, the INEC Guidelines dated the 21st day of March, 2024 and the essence of the fieldwork on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units. The primary consideration for the delineation of electoral wards and polling units is the population quota/number of inhabitants and other physical consideration of the areas concerned.
Furthermore, it is our position that, based on the Supreme Court order on fresh delineation of wards and polling units, there is no longer any existing register of voters in the Warri Federal Constituency upon which any activity can be predicated upon. We therefore urge INEC to stick to the law and its Guidelines and not to succumb to the Itsekiri blackmail and misleading agitations to rely on register of voters. The field work carried out by INEC and other existing public records clearly revealed the majority population status of the Ijaws and Urhobos in Warri North, Warri South West and Warri South LGAs respectively.
Furthermore, the register of voters was not one of the items considered during the field work on the fresh delineation. Also, the Itsekiris have not complained that any of their communities or settlements was omitted in the report of the fieldwork presented by INEC. It therefore means that, the Itsekiri voter register based agitation against the INEC field work report is baseless and lacks any legal foundation.

THREAT TO PEACE IN THE WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY OF DELTA STATE AND NIGER DELTA REGION:

The Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri were shocked by the report of the arrest of persons, including a serving British Army Officer for illegally bringing in arms to instigate unrest in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State, so as to truncate the Supreme Court ordered fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units. A Traditional Ruler in the Warri Federal Constituency and its close aides were allegedly involved and the said persons have not denied the report several days thereafter.
We note that, the Ijaw and Urhobo people of Warri were the primary target of those behind this dastardly act of stockpiling of arms. We therefore, commend the proactive efforts of the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) and sister security forces that carried out the covet operations leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri call for detailed investigation and prosecution of the those behind this act of terrorism, irrespective of the position and class of the persons involved. We demand that, under no circumstances should this matter be swept under the carpet considering its grave implications on regional and national security.
The office of the National Security Adviser is called upon to be transparent in the investigation and prosecution of the culprits. We demand that the Nigerian people, especially the people and residents of Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State deserve to have an official reaction from the government of Nigeria on the issue of illegal stockpiling of arms to instigate crisis in Warri.

ITSEKIRI ATTEMPT TO INSTIGATE CRISIS AND BLACKMAIL INEC AND GOVERNMENT:

The Ijaws and Urhobos of Warri note the desperate attempts by the Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality to blackmail the Nigerian government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to carry out the delineation on their terms and trying to instigate crisis in Warri. The Itsekiris have done this through attempt to disrupt oil and gas operations in some parts of Delta State, persistent media attacks on INEC and instigating some Yoruba Groups to issue reckless press statements.
The Ijaws and Urhobos call on the Nigerian government to consider the attempt to disrupt oil and gas operations as a result of compliance with the order of the Supreme Court as an act of terrorism and bring the perpetrators to justice. We state that, Nigeria is not a Banana Republic where the orders of the Supreme Court would be obeyed at the pleasure and on the conditions of an ethnic group. All persons and authorities including the Federal Government is bound by the orders of the Supreme Court on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units. Therefore, any attempt to frustrate the implementation of the judgment by attempting to attack national assets should be regarded as a threat to national security and the perpetrators brought to justice.
We condemn the reckless statement issued by some purported Pan Yoruba Groups where they threatened the peace and security of the Niger Delta region as a result of the Supreme Court ordered delineation. We are aware that all these threats are the desperate actions of some Itsekiri leaders and should be ignored by the government.
We also call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu not to allow its office to be blackmailed by the Itsekiris in their desperate attempt to truncate the Supreme Court ordered delineation. Any attempt to frustrate the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment on the fresh delineation is a direct invitation to anarchy by whoever that is involved. The Presidency must distant itself from any such act and allow INEC to carry out its functions in line with section 160 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as an independent agency of the federal government.
The Federal Government should be reminded that the relocation of the Headquarters of Warri South West Local Government Area from Ogbe-Ijoh to Ogidigben, which was instigated by the Itsekiris led to the fratricidal war in Warri from 1997 to 2003 which snowballed into the Niger Delta crisis. Therefore, we warn against any attempt to change the Ijaw and Urhobo majority status in Warri North, Warri South West and Warri South Local Government Areas, respectively as revealed by the INEC report of its field work on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units.

SIGNED FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE IJAWS AND URHOBOS OF WARRI:

IJAW:
HON. DENBO-DENBOFA OWEIKPODOR.

JOEL BISINA, PhD.

Just-ln: Burutu New PDP to Meet 30th April, Urges Defecting Excos to Handover Party Properties, Says PDP Much Alive

The People's Democratic Party, PDP, under new PDP in Burutu local government Area has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday April 30th following the recent defection of Exco members, leaders and political appointees to the All Progressives Congress, APC in Burutu LGA.

In a statement signed by concerned stakeholders of Burutu representing all the 20 wards in said the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is not only alive in Burutu, but is also undergoing an inspiring renaissance.

The emerging new leaders and stakeholders led by Comrd. Austin Ozobo, Mr Anthony Mulu, Rtn Dr. Pigha Ofogbor, Comrd. Tamaramiebi, Comrd Oyinbi Onduku and others unequivocally refuted all rumors and baseless speculations that PDP is dead in Burutu LGA, adding that the presence and influence of the PDP in Burutu remained strong and enduring, contrary to misguided claims, not all members of the party have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the new leaders, a resolute team of loyal members had remained steadfast, upholding the core values, vision, and mission of the PDP, and working diligently to sustain its legacy while steering the party towards a vibrant future.

The statement titled, "The New face of Burutu PDP" said "This is an official declaration to the good people of Burutu Local Government Area and the general public: The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is not only alive in Burutu, but is also undergoing an inspiring renaissance. We unequivocally refute all rumors and baseless speculations—let it be known that the presence and influence of the PDP in Burutu remain strong and enduring. Contrary to misguided claims, not all members have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). A resolute team of loyal members has remained steadfast, upholding the core values, vision, and mission of the PDP, and working diligently to sustain its legacy while steering the party towards a vibrant future.

"At this pivotal time, our top priority is the revival, reorganization, and consolidation of the PDP, further strengthening its foundation across Burutu. Through broad-based consultations and collaborative efforts, we are currently setting up an interim working committee to oversee the affairs of the party pending the emergence of a substantive leadership. Both veteran members and dynamic new entrants are bringing renewed energy and unwavering commitment to this noble cause. Our dedication is beyond question: to re-energize the party, rebuild trust amongst our supporters, and reclaim our position as the credible vanguard of progress in Burutu politics.

"Let there be no doubt or confusion: The new PDP is here to stay. We are ushering in a new era driven by transparent leadership, unity of purpose, and fresh vision. We invite all sons and daughters of Burutu who believe in justice, fairness, and genuine democracy, to join hands with this renewed movement. The road before us is bright and full of promise, and together, we shall unleash the full potential of our land and its people.

"Nevertheless, we find it necessary to address a grave concern. It has come to our attention that some individuals who have publicly aligned themselves with the APC are attempting to retain PDP offices, privileges, and assets. Such actions are completely unacceptable—constituting a violation of both the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the principles of ethical political practice. No statute or party constitution recognizes dual allegiance to two political parties. We call on all those who have openly defected to the APC to withdraw immediately and permanently from all matters concerning the PDP. Any further interference from defectors will be regarded as an attack on the integrity and unity of our party, and such acts will not be tolerated.

"To these individuals, let this serve as an unambiguous and final warning: You cannot enjoy the advantages of two parties at once. Your defection has been recognized and affirmed by party leadership, with full acknowledgement at the recent Canwood Hotel, Ekpan meeting. The final formalization of your move to the APC will be concluded soon in Asaba. The authentic PDP structure is currently being rebuilt by loyal members, and all defectors are hereby directed to promptly return all party documents, properties, and materials. Failure to comply will force us to initiate every legal and political measure necessary to reclaim our rightful assets.

"This is a moment of great transition and promise for the PDP in Burutu. We are pleased to announce that a comprehensive, expanded consultative meeting of the new Burutu PDP is scheduled for Wednesday. This vital gathering will provide an opportunity for open dialogue, strategic planning, and collective visioning. It is an open call to all genuine PDP faithful to join us in laying the foundation for a stronger, progressive, and people-driven party that truly embodies the aspirations of Burutu.

"Let it be proclaimed with strength and clarity: The PDP is not only surviving in Burutu—it is thriving, evolving, and moving forward. Our flag flies higher than ever, as we embark on this new era of committed leadership and resolute service to our community.

"PDP – Power to the People!

Long Live the New Burutu PDP!

Long Live Burutu Local Government Area!

The Tompolo Dancer and the Amaseikumor Festival-By: Enewaridideke Ekanpou

Calculated stately steps counted in measured stately stages announce the arrival of the Tompolo dancer.
Feet nimbly moved in stately steps are echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling tales with legwork  at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival .

Attired in immaculate
white clothes, hand-fan flexibly held, heralds the Tompolo dancer in prefatory outlines telling tales with legwork at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival.

The echoes of the Tompolo dancer are often different.
Barefooted, hand-fan moved stately, a stately step a little forward, bent fractionally, stationary state kept within a circle, shoulders shaken stately, appreciatory  gaze cast both left and right of the watching arena, are all echoes of the Tompolo dancer at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival.
Within a mentally marked spot, bending beautifully in intermittent steps, moving the hand-fan here and there 'yinke yinke', gently stepping on the dancing arena, body shaken stately like butterfly wings, are all stately echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling tales with legwork at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival.

Like sandbank crabs with spread tentacles raised and cut smartly, carrying semblance of a synchronised unity of homage to a senior military officer , the  hand-fan often fanning the dancer in a stately state, are all echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling ancient tales with legwork at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor festival in Oporoza.
The nimble moves of the hand-fan matching the stately steps in skillful synchronised unity are all echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling tales with legwork built skillfully from steps of 'agene' and 'owigiri'  dances at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival.

Bending stately and forming a circle, yet working out beautiful steps in a mentally marked stationary spot, are all echoes  of the Tompolo dancer mystically telling tales with legwork at the grand finale of Amaseikumor Festival.

Lips carrying the folk song on cue and breaking into stately steps without muscular exertion, sometimes stately  blowing a whistle, are all echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling tales with legwork at the grand finale of Amaseikumor Festival.
Suddenly breaking into stately steps built from 'agene'  and 'owigiri' dances within the radius of a stationary circle, are all echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling tales with legwork at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival

A skillful stately dancer at work without beads of sweat, head stately skyward in reverence to the cosmic, yet a white handkerchief stately wipes imaginary beads of sweat on the face at calculated moments, are all echoes of the Tompolo dancer telling tales with legwork at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival at Oporoza.

When a dancer suddenly breaks into stately steps, hand-fan held flexibly, a smiling  face  manned by white handkerchief to lay siege to imaginary beads of sweat, know that the  Tompolo dancer is on the dancing arena telling ancient tales with legwork at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival annually held in Gbaramatu Kingdom.

Gripped by the muse, Izonebi Alfred the originator of the 'wabu' and 'ozigizaga' dances, has just fashioned out another dance named Tompolo dance using his musical tentacles hooked to the ten teetotaler tentacles of Tompolo at the grand finale of the 2025 Amaseikumor Festival.
The Tompolo dance is a stately dance of happiness and appreciation...

Mulade urges Gov Oborevwori to industrialize Delta State through Agriculture, Aquaculture

Delta State born environmentalist and development advocate, Comrade Mulade Sheriff has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to adopt a pragramatic approach towards industrializing Delta state.

While stating that leaders all over the world now adopt strategies to harness the resources of their countries for more infrastructural development, job creation and economic growth, translating to wealth creation, Comrade Mulade said Delta State cannot be an exception, especially as the State is richly endowed with human capital and natural resources which are the keys to unlocking the greatness of the State.

The development advocate and the Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-west LGA called on the State Governor to industrialise the State using its agricultural and aqua-cultural endowments. He said "Delta State is greatly endowed with arable land and marine resources that can turn the State into a food basket for local consumption and create revenues via exports while also achieving the aim of diversifying from an oil-dependent economy in the long run."

The Gbaramatu Chief noted that adopting an agro-based industrialisation strategy would go a long way to creating wealth for the State's teeming unemployed youths and women. "By engaging them, it will reduce the rate of unemployment and food scarcity, while boosting food sufficiency and its affordability, a key to reducing the poverty index of the State," he asserted.

He stated that the industrialisation of the State through agriculture and aqua-culture would create opportunities for youths and women, and curtail the wastage of idle human resources and turn them into assets that can contribute their quota to the growth and development of the State.

According to Mulade, "agro-based industrialisation will help to reduce the insecurity challenges and criminal tendencies and immorality prevalent in the society. As the saying goes, an idle mind is the devil's workshop. When the youths and women are meaningful engaged, this will improve peace and reduce anti-social behaviors like armed robbery, prostitution amongst others, and in the long run attract more investors into the State."

He said apart from crude oil, "the many resources in the riverine areas of the State are greatly untapped especially in the aquacultural sector. The potentials of unemployed youths in the creeks can be tapped thereby turning the coastal areas into exporting zones of seafoods and revenue generation."

He stated that failure of the State government to meaningfully engage the next generation would amount to societal devastation that would be difficult to recover from as the negative impact would be disastrous.

He, therefore, appealed to the Oborevwori Administration to prioritize the industrialisation of the State through agriculture and aquaculture, as Delta has a lot to benefit in the long run. "This poor areas should be strategically looked into, devoid of politics, for the interest of the future of our dear Delta State."

As part of activities to mark the 2025 Amaseikumor Festival in Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State, the Gbaramatu Youth Council organised a football tourney amongst youths from various Ijaw kingdoms and neighbouring Urhobo and Isoko kingdoms.
The idea is to promote love, unity and peaceful coexistence among the different ethnic groups in Delta State, as well as to develop raw talents at the grassroot level.

However, after over 35 minutes of the controversy about the penalty awarded, normalcy was restored and the centre referee insisted the penalty shootout stands, which the Gbaramatu Urban Team utilised and scored the penalty shootout.
Ogbe-Ijoh United fought fearlessly to equalise the 1 goal but to no avail, thereby relegating them to the second position.

However, Presley Friday of Gbaramatu Urban Team won the golden boot while Pere Joseph of Ogbe-Ijoh United emerged highest goal scorer of the tournament. Gideon Blankson from Ogbe-Ijoh United also clinched the best goalkeeper of the tourney.

Peter Obi Mourns Passage of Pope Francis, Pays Tribute at Vatican City in Rome

Nigeria's former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, attended the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Vatican City. Obi, who is also a member of the Scholars Occultantes, an international circle founded by Pope Francis, described the late pontiff as a "moral light in a world darkened by inequality and indifference".
Obi reflected on Pope Francis's legacy, emphasizing his commitment to humility, simplicity, and service to the poor. He noted that the Pope's life was anchored in truth, compassion, and dedication to the marginalized, and urged leaders to emulate his values.

"Let this moment not just be one of mourning, but a call to lead with conscience, walk with the people, and govern with love," Obi said, as he paid tribute to the late Pope.
