Warri______ The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Ebike Oromoni has called on Burutu PDP leaders, stakeholders and other party faithfuls to shun divisive politics and embrace unity, love one another towards the progress of the party.

Oromoni gave the charge today at Burutu, during Burutu PDP stakeholders meeting, urged party faithfuls as well as loyalists to desist from chronic lying and backbiting, noting that it does not portend good for the general interest of the party.

In his opening remark, Hon. Ebike Oromoni thank Burutu PDP leaders for creating time to attend the meeting, stressing that Burutu PDP family needs unity and love to move forward. He called on Burutu PDP leaders to love one another and work together as a team for the progress of the party.

According to Ebike, said: " Despite we have individual interest in the party, that does not mean we should hate ourselves. As a leader, you must listen more and talkless so as to avoid creating unnecessary enemity among ourselves. I must appreciate all the leaders for your support to party activities, please keep the good work going.

I also want to called on the members of Burutu PDP WhatsApp group to stop raining insults on our leaders, because it does not portray good image of the group. The WhatsApp group was created to unite ourselves and share ideas for the progress of our party. Let's stop the abusive syndrome and think for the general development of Burutu. Finally, he charged all Burutu political appointees to provide logistics for the welfare of party officials, especially now that Christmas is fast approaching, Oromoni concluded."

In his reaction, Hon. Julius Pondi appreciate the leaders of Burutu and the grassroots for given him the opportunity to serve. He further urged party leaders to settle their differences amicably among themselves, noting that the electioneering era is over, let's work together to move Burutu forward.

While Hon. Funkekeme Solomon calls for respect among party leaders, noting that respect is reciprocal. He urged the party Chairman, Oromoni to put in his best to unite the party, so as to avoid keeping unnecessary enemity among ourselves. Opportunity is turn by turn, pray to God and wait for your turn, don't pull down your brother because of selfish political interest, Funkekeme stated.

In his remark, the Chairman Burutu LGA, Hon. Godknows Angele charged party faithfuls to engaged in constructive criticism, stressing that it is by doing that the political office holders will sit-up to do what is expected of them. He called on Burutu PDP party executives to set up a committee in order to raise fund for the welfare of party officials as well as followers.

Meanwhile, Hon. Ikisa Combolus, the Vice Chairman Burutu LGA, charged Burutu leaders to draw the attention of Gov. Okowa towards the speedy completion of Ayakoromo bridge, stressing that the bridge project will catapult road network to connect Burutu main town and the villages under the local government area, he asserted.

In his contribution, Hon. Paul Kurugbe charged party Chairman to call for Burutu PDP leadership meeting, so as to enable them settle the differences among themselves for the general interest of the party. He urged the house to set up a committee in order to unite the party leaders in subsequent meeting.

Warri_____ A warri based renowned man of God and the General Overseer (G.O) of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Snr. Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, popularly known as Owomowomo (Raw), has pleaded to withdraw a blackmail case he instituted against one Mr. Godwin Boukan and Amos Wanki on the 2nd of September, 2020 at the Magistrate Court 1, Ughelli Delta State.

According to the Court proceedings on Thursday at Ughelli, the team of Owomowomo lawyers pleaded before the presiding judge of the case and the defending lawyer of the accused persons, Barr. Omes Ogedegbe that they want to withdraw the case for further investigation of the matter.

It would be recalled that, on the 2nd of September, 2020, Prophet Fufeyin arrested and detained the accused persons for one week at Ughelli Area Command, on alleged blackmail video of his personality.

But one of the accused person, Boukan pleaded innocent of the allegation levelled against him, stressing that his arrest was as a result of drawing the attention of Mr. Gideon Oguma to a video showed him by one Amos Wanki on a Facebook page called 'Ugly True'. The content of the said Video shows one of 'Owomowomo' protocol officer known as elder Godfrey Bodonyefa, who acted as a herbalist criticizing one popular foreign Pastor J. lsrael.

According to him, said: " l was deceived, arrested and whisked away on the 2nd of September, by police men to meet with the founder of Mercyland Church, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto at Effurun at exactly 3:pm for interrogation. During the interrogation with the G.O, Omoto who even confirmed that the witch doctor in the said video was Elder Godfrey and he said the witch doctor threatened to release part 2 of the video insulting J. Israel, which said video was truly released on the 5th of September, 2020.

The said Prophet Omoto further threatened me to write a Statement so that they can arrest Amos Wanki who identify elder Godfrey Bondoyefa in the said video. He promised to release me after arresting Amos Wanki but did not release me after the arrest.

Thereafter, l was moved to Ughelli Area Command and detained on the 2nd of September, 2020 for one week without fair hearing by Owomowomo on alleged stolen phone. I know my arrest was not a stolen case when l found myself in the Mercy City.

While in police detention, our family members approached Owomowomo at Mercy City Effurun, to plead for their release on bail but the man of God turned down the plea and vow to take the matter to any level, Godwin narrated. "

In another development, the family members of the accused persons contacted the member representing Burutu North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Asupa Forteta, the Chairman Delta State Land/Waterways Security Committee, Evang Chief. Boro Opudu and the renowned Niger Delta freedom fighter, High Chief. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo called to plead with him for their release from detention, still Owomowomo refused to succumbed to their plea.

They were granted bail on the 12th of September, 2020 through court order by their lawyer Omes Ogedegbe and were charged to court for trial on alleged blackmail in which they have been going to court in the past two months.

However, it was a surprise in the court today when Owomowomo team of lawyers approached the presiding judge to withdraw the case for further investigation without considering the legal implications of their actions.

Meanwhile, the withdrawal plea was objected to by the defending lawyer, Barr. Ogedegbe and the presiding judge subsequently adjourned the case to 17th of November, 2020.

The Nigerian senate has ordered State house officials to stop President Muhammadu Buhari from making trips abroad for medical treatment.

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs on Thursday warned that this was necessary in order to make sure the State House Clinic becomes Functional.

The warning was issued to the State House Permanent Secretary, Tijani Umar, who appeared before the panel to defend his 2021 budget estimates. Umar had presented a N19.7 billion budget out of which N1.2 billion was allocated for the state house clinic.

Panel member, Senator Danjuma La’ah, revealed that the budget would be approved but that the President and other top officials of his government should no longer be flown abroad for medical treatment, the statement adds.

Save Our Lives By Stopping Gas Flaring ln Niger Delta, Mulade Tells President Buhari

Warri_____ The National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade recently in Warri, Delta state, has warned on the likely severe consequences of continued gas flaring in the Niger Delta region, demanding that the time has come for the Federal Government to do something to stop the unhealthy environment practice.

Recall that despite the pledge over the years by the Federal Government of Nigeria to stop the flaring of gas in the Niger Delta region, the unsafe environmental practice is still ongoing by oil operators in the southern part of the country. This is even more worrisome when the Federal Government's 2020 projection deadline to end the unsafe environmental practice has continued to remain elusive.

Making the call during a visit to bastardized environment around Warri River, Chief Mulade expressed worry and disappointment over the unending practice in the oil producing areas in the region.

According to the CEPEJ National Coordinator, "Gas flaring involves the release of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide (Co2) biochemical smog and their particular matter derivatives such as sulphates and nitrates.

"This, contributes immensely to climate change, which has serious ecological impacts on the Niger Delta environment.

"Beyond this, it has been scientifically proven that gas flaring causes visibility problems, environmental degradation, harm to public health and gives rise to atmospheric contaminants which acidify and deplete soil nutrients, resulting in low crop yield," he stated.

The chieftain from Gbaramatu Kingdom expressed worries that the high level for gas flaring in the Niger Delta has negative economic and environmental consequences because the process of doing it is simultaneously polluting the air, water and soil in the region.

"Those living in the region and exposed to the drinking of polluted water or consumption of contaminated food have suffered from unexplainable diseases" warning that "the heavy metals released into the atmosphere are metallic chemical elements which have relatively high density and low concentration of toxic or poisonous substances.

"It is worthy of note that gas flaring has destroyed the ozone layer in the region, therefore government at all levels must do everything humanely possible to save lives," he appealed.

A) We write to draw your attention to the activities of Delta Comrade Community whose jurisdiction of operation as the name entails cover for all Delta State Comrades which ought to also cover for the interest of our group Delta Ijaw Comrade Community yet modelled erroneously by its leadership to deliberately sideline and undermine our group with her capacity sponsored and carried out by some misleading elements who are perhaps leveraging on their close tie with you.

1. Delta Ijaw Comrade Community is an organised body of qualified youths both in character, academia and activeness in the body polity of the state with track records of distinctiveness and are critical stakeholders in ensuring your victory.

2. Delta Ijaw Comrade Community consist of some of the most prominent youth leaders in Delta South Senatoral District spread across the LGAs of Burutu, Bomadi, Patani, Warri South West and Warri North of Delta State respectively.

We wish to demand Your Excellency to appoint members of the Delta Ijaw Comrade Community via its normination into strategic offices like student affairs, youth mobilisation, sustainable community development, civil society organisation, board and media as we are membered with professionals from this field and beyond to play major role to ensure the holistic success of your administration moving forward.

7.The purported Delta Comrade Community on your directive should be reinvented to capture more cohesive forces to ensure that a name that encapsulates us all involuntarily, is not seen to be a gathering of sectional interests of Deltans.

Okowa Flood Funds, Burutu Council Begins Disbursement Of Cash, As Angele Calls On FG Intervention

Warri_____The Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Godknows Angele has begin the disbursement of Gov. Okowa flood relief funds to the various affected communities in the council, thereby calling on the federal government to intervene in order to find a permanent solution to the perennial flood menace affecting riverine areas in the country.

It was confirmed that the sum of #500,000,00 each was disbursed on Monday to all the eleven (11) federal wards constituting Burutu Local Government Area.

Also, an additional #30,000,00 provision was made available for logistic purposes for onward disbursement of the cash to the flood victims in the various communities through the ward leaders.

According to Angele, said his office is complementing the efforts of the state Government financially in reaching out to the flood victims across the LGA.

He stressed that by the disbursement arrangement, each ward is getting #500,000,00 each and #30,000,00 logistics, noting that the council is disbursing the money through the various Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leaders across the council.

When asked if the money will really get to the affected flood victims in the communities without being diverted, Angele said the ward leaders are all people with proven track records of integrity.

He said there is no doubt about it that the money is going directly to the flood victims in the various communities constituting Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, adding that there are even sub committees at the ward level.

He explained further that while carrying out the directives of the Delta State Government headed by His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the #500,000,00 will be disbursed to 100 (hundred) families per ward across the Local Government.

That means, about 1100 (One Thousand and one hindered) families have been drafted out to benefit from the gesture.

According to a list obtained from council, signed by Hon. Godknows Angele, the ward leaders drafted out to receive the cash for further disbursement to the various communities include Mr. Progress Dimaro, ward 1; Hon. Fungewei Azami, ward 2, Mr. James Nieketen, ward 3; Hon. Dan Yingi, ward 4; Hon. Gilbert Benefa, ward 5; DCN Arede Edeimene, ward 6; Godwin Edumogiren, ward 7; Barr. Chief Isa Clark 8; Hon Richard Numa, ward 9; Mr. Ignatius Ziakegha, ward 10 as well as Amb. Comr, Shedrack Agediga, ward 11.

However, it was further observed that few of the ward leaders whose names appeared above who was unable to make it rather sent representatives to receive the cash on their behalf.

When quizzed if the council in collaboration with the Delta State Government have any plan to work out modalities to prevent or control the perennial flooding of these communities, Angele said the flood is a natural disaster hence is beyond the capacity of council and even state Government to do anything, stressing that it is more of federal government arrangement that can do something.

The Burutu Local Government Chairman, popularly known as ‘Ability’ had called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to as a matter of urgency begin the process of dredging the River Niger for it to be deep enough to consume the water that is coming from the opening of dams in neighbouring countries resulting to the perennial flooding in most Niger Delta communities.

Hon. Godknows noted that himself and his colleagues have also called on relevant federal agencies in the country to come to their rescue, adding that the entire Local Government has been completely submerged by the flood.

He continued that a federal team is already on their way to access the negative impact of the flood in the affected Local Government Areas, stressing that the team was at Bomadi hence Burutu Local Government Council will be receiving them within the week.

Speaking in similar manner, the duo of Mr. Fungewei Azami and Pst. Godwin Edumogiren SSAs to the Governor who received the cash on behalf of their various wards particularly appreciated Governor Okowa for reaching out to the flood victims, adding that posterity will always judge him right.

Azami and Godwin also lauded the prudent management of resources by the council Chairman, Hon. Angele, adding that for adding cash to augment what the state Government brought and his open door policy is no doubt a demonstration of uncommon leadership, maintaining that the people of Burutu are very proud of him, the statement adds.

Just-ln: Gov. Okowa Releases Funds To Support Flood Victims ln Delta

Asaba_____ In order to cushion the effect of flooding in communities in the state, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has released funds to the affected local government areas to purchase food items for the affected communities.

The Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Delta State Chapter, Hon. Itiako Ikpokpo disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Asaba.

The ALGON boss listed the affected local government areas to include Oshimili South, Aniocha South, Ndokwa East, Isoko North, Isoko South, Patani, Bomadi, Burutu, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Warri South-West and Warri North.

He said the affected Local Governments have started procurement of the food items and will soon commence distribution to the affected communities.

He appealed to the flood victims to be patient as help was underway.

"On behalf of my colleagues in ALGON, we thank our dear Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for the gracious release of funds to procure food items for flood victims in Delta State.

"I therefore appeal to our people to remain calm and patient as the various councils carry out the task of procuring and distributing the food items to the affected communities.

"It is our firm commitment to ensure that no one suffers on account of flooding as government is prepared to meet them half way," Ikpokpo stated.

Delta Taskforce begins demolition of illegal fences at Numa street in Warri.

Warri_____The Delta state Government, today began demolition of illegal fences and other structures built on the road in warri and environs.

The demolition exercise began with a fence of about 35 metres and a Generator's house built on the road

The operation which was led by the state Taskforce Chairman on Environment Honourable Sylvester Oromoni said that the Residents wrote petition to say that a job awarded by NDDC was about to be truncated due to unapproved fence blocking the major part of the road.

Oromoni who swiftly intervened said that demolition of illegal structures became imperative as defaulters and violators had failed to heed several notices issued them.

He said that Delta State Government has commenced the demolition of illegal structures across the state to bring sanity to urban areas and restore government property to their original uses. The flagrant disregard of building codes and respect for extant laws guarding property development needed to be checked, hence the exercise.

“The process has commenced in earnest in different parts of the state (Agbor, Asaba, Sapele etc) and those with structures on unapproved sites or without necessary building plans are hereby put on notice. We warn all those who have built on roads, Right of Way (RoW), school property and on State governments’ land to remove the property immediately as demolition of such buildings statewide has commenced.”

He added that the notices served on the defaulters still subsists, noting that whoever is caught violating the law will face the dire consequences.

Oromoni said the state government had issued warnings on the defaulters severally and would not tolerate disruption of the exercise as enough leeway was allowed for the violators to do the needful by removing the illegal structures.

An Elder with Church of God mission confirmed that notices were actually served to them but never expected it was going to be this soon but concluded that since it's for development, this is what we all craved for.

Oromoni was accompanied by the SSA to the Governor on special duties sir Igho Akpojotor, Comr. Kingsley Iweka, Coordinator Delta Central and south amongst others.

Just-ln: Okonjo-Iweala Emerges World Trade Organization DG

Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonji-Iweala has emerged the new Director General of the World Trade Organisation.

It was reported that Okonjo-Iweala was chosen as the final candidate for the much-coveted role. She polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat South Korea’s trade minister at the final stage of the race.

She has broken many records, including becoming the first African to occupy win that office at the WTO.

The official announcement is expected to be made by the WTO at 3pm Nigerian time today, the statement adds.

Warri_____ The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor of Delta State on investment, Hon. Ebisine Kofee Amasuomo has expressed appreciation to his boss, His Excellency, Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, on the occasion of the signing of MoU between Delta state government and Akewa Colmer Terminal Ltd, towards the resuscitation of Burutu Port.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Warri, Hon. Kofee said Burutu Port is one of the oldest Ports in Nigeria established in 1887, but had been moribund for over 130 years. He noted that the economic importance of Burutu Port is enormous that when resuscitated, will create jobs for thousands of unemployed youths, boost the economy of Delta state by increasing the GDP, attracts infrastructural development to the state, Burutu main town and its neighboring villages.

The Burutu born Senior Special Assistant reiterated that Delta ljaw people will be forever grateful to Gov. Okowa for bringing back Burutu Port to functional after 130 years of abandonment.

He extends his gratitude to Chief. Kenneth Donye, the CEO Akewa Colmer Terminal Ltd for his display of candor, capacity, courage and perseverance in pursuing such investment to this point.

Finally, he thanked and appreciated the management of Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), especially the Chairman, Hon. Paul Nmah and the Director General of the agency, Olorogun Lucky Oghene-Omoru for their concerted efforts towards the development of Burutu Port, the statement adds.

However, it would be recalled that, the Delta State Government has on 22nd of October, 2020 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private indigenous investor, Akewa Colmar Terminal Ltd for the development of the Burutu Ports in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The ceremony which took place in Asaba had the Chairman Delta State Investments Development Agency (DIDA), Hon. Paul Nmah and the Director-General of the Agency Olorogun Lucky Oghene-Omoru signing on behalf of the State Government, while the Chairman, Akewa Colmar Ltd, Dr Keneth Donye signed for the company to officially commence the first step of actualizing the Burutu Ports Project.

The Chairman of the Delta State Investments Development Agency (DIDA) Hon. Paul Nmah speaking at the ceremony restated Government support for the project which is geared towards the development of the State.

According to him a project of this magnitude will ensure revenue and employment generations which are key concerns of His Excellency Dr IfeanyiOkowa and it will equally help to decongest the Lagos Ports.

“If you look at what is happening in Lagos State, the congestion of ports, you can see that having this project will take away much burden from Lagos State and also enhance the development of exports and import activities in Delta State with its attendant multiplier effects,” Nmah said.

He promised the investor of State government’s support towards the success of the project.

On his part The Director-General of the Agency, Olorogun Lucky Oghene-Omoru said that the agreement signifies the importance of the project and its impact on the economy of Delta State and Nigeria in general.

He stated further that DTSG has 5% equity in the project which according to him underlines the fact that the State Government is supporting the project and it will give the company the mileage in negotiation with the Federal Government and their foreign partners.

Oghene-Omoru enjoined the Management of the company to take advantage of the various windows opened regarding off-shore funding of the project which DIDA is putting together in concert with its foreign funding partners.

Speaking earlier the Chairman Akewa Colmar Terminal Ltd, Dr Keneth Donye said that the partnership with the Delta State Government will bring about a development that will engulf the whole of West Africa and beyond.

He said that the Burutu Port is very unique and strategic haven been recommended as the most suitable for dry-docking in Nigeria by a Holland Consulting firm (Imeco Naval Consultants).

According to him its natural depth of 18m makes it the deepest and only seaport in Nigeria with the capacity to accommodate all manner of vessels in the world, such as heavy liners like the Panamas.

Speaking further on the project, he said his company has the full support of the local community and that they have the capacity to see the project to a successful conclusion.

The Chairman Burutu Local Government Area, Mr Godknows Angele, HRM BosuDio, Ebenanakowei of Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu, HRH Pere Ekpama Smart, the Pere of Okun-AghoroEkeremor in Bayelsa State and HRH I.B. Ojukonsin, the Amananawei of Aghoro II Ekeremor LGA in Bayelsa in their remarks showed their enthusiasm about the success of the project and promised their full support to ensure that the project comes to fruition.

Also present at the ceremony were top DIDA and Akewa Colmar Ltd Managements.

Buhari Nominates Prof. Yakubu As INEC Chairman For Second Term ln Office

Abuja____ President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, for a second term in office.

In a letter to President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the President said in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second and final term.”

Prof Yakubu was first appointed by President Buhari in November 2015.

Omo-Agege’s aide, Guanah Donates Relief Materials To Flood Victims In Delta Community

Warri_____ Mr Raymos Guanah, Special Assistant to the Deputy Senate President on Political Matters, has donated relief materials, including food items, to victims of flooding in Patani Local Government area of Delta state.

He said on Monday in Patani that the items were meant to assuage the sufferings of the people of the area as a result of the flood, which had ravaged some parts of the country, with the area badly affected.

Guanah, who was represented by Mr Joseph Ekiyor, the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the council area, said that the presentation of the relief materials was a way of identifying with the people in their present condition.

He put the total losses in the council area at more than N500 million in farm lands, fishing nets, fishing traps and household property.

Guanah, a former Commissioner for Lands and Survey in Delta, called on the state government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to open up the several culverts currently under construction on the Patani/Uzere road.

This, he said, would make flow of water easy, thus prevent flooding and save the area from further disaster.

“It is time for the federal and state government as well as the NDDC and the ecological funds office to take urgent steps to address the coastal erosion problem in Abari community.

”This is devastating and Abari community may be completely washed into the river, if no urgent action is taken,’’ he said.

The aide also stressed the need for the construction of foreshore walls and embankments in the communities by the river to forestall recurrent flooding.

Responding, the Chairman of Patani Local Government council, Mr Perez Omoun, commended Guanah’s gesture, saying that he had never relented in supporting the people anytime he was called upon.

He promised that the items would be equitably distributed to the affected persons and advised relevant government agencies to urgently address the coastal erosion issue in Abari.
