I’ll take back Nigeria from 16 years of PDP’s mystery, poverty: Tinubu boasted.

I’ll take back Nigeria from 16 years of PDP’s mystery, poverty: Tinubu boasted
.

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, has said he will take back Nigeria from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr Tinubu, during his acceptance remarks at Eagle Square on Wednesday, said the PDP caused mystery and poverty when it was in power.

Mr Tinubu’s party has been in power since 2015 when Muhammadu Buhari won election. He was reelected in 2019 and will complete his second four-year term in May 2023.

Although the PDP had powers for 16 years from 1999 to 2015, Nigerians have said the current poverty and deprivation currently ravaging the country should be blamed on the APC.

“The cat that lied down quietly is not a pretence of death but the breathing of energy to devour its enemy,” We will run. We will do it. We will take the poverty development party, called the PDP, 16 years of mystery, 16 years of failure, 16 years of forgetting about our children’s future,” Mr Tinubu said. “We will bring back our country and build the best nation for our children.”

Mr Buhari spent his early years in government blaming the PDP, which caused repeatedly a war of words between the opposition party and pro-government spokespeople.

Mr Tinubu’s comment indicated that he would be running against the opposition rather than his party’s record.

2023: Jonathan Congratulate Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, Kachikwu, others

2023: Jonathan Congratulate Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, Kachikwu, others

I congratulate the winners of the various primaries across the political spectrum, particularly Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who has won the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and  the flagbearers of other parties that have also concluded their primaries.

They include Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Malik Ado-Ibrahim, Young Progressives Party (YPP), Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dumebi Kachikwu, African Democratic Congress (ADC) as well as Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP.
Your emergence as the flagbearers of your parties after submitting yourselves to rigorous selection and election processes demonstrates your belief and interest in the progress of our nation.

I consider you are all aspiring to be elected as the leader of the country because you are democrats who believe, like the rest of us, that Nigeria is our common heritage which we should all strive to protect, prosper and preserve for the future generation.

As you progress towards the electioneering campaigns, it is important that the issues confronting the country and credible solutions take centre stage.
I urge you to conduct your campaigns in a manner devoid of acrimony, divisiveness and treachery so that at the end of the day Nigeria will win, democracy will triumph and humanity will be better for it.

As I have always said, no ambition is worth the life of another. As candidates, you must eschew violence and acts that will encourage any form of bloodletting or exacerbate the national fault lines. We live in a season of unprecedented violence and all political leaders have a responsibility to de-escalate the tension in the country. The candidates by conduct and language must prioritise non-violence and peaceful coexistence.

I also salute the sportsmanship displayed by other aspirants who have continued to lend their weight to the democratic process, despite the fact that they did not emerge victorious in their various party primaries.
I urge all stakeholders to place national interest above personal interest. We must commit to upholding virtues that will sustain  our democracy and advance the cause of good governance, peace and sustainable development.

Nigeria is at a critical junction in its march to nationhood as it grapples with security and economic challenges. The 2023 elections present an opportunity to renew our union, rebuild the dreams of our founding fathers and revitalise our economy.

The importance of this election imposes on the election managers and security agencies a historic burden to continue deepening the reforms of our electoral system. A transparent election will go a long way to increase the confidence of Nigerians in our democracy and restore trust in our public institutions.
We can attain our national aspirations of unity, peace, and progress through the instrumentality of a functional and effective democracy.

I urge all leaders, especially politicians, to prioritize the peace and stability of our nation as we commence the activities of 2023 elections.

To the good citizens of our beloved country, I charge you all, particularly the youth, to make honest and patriotic choices that will guarantee us the hope that we desire for ourselves and our nation.

Delta Guber: Wahala As Court Bars PDP, INEC from Accepting Sheriff as Flag Bearer

Abuja_____ A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party in the interim from forwarding the name of Mr Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orhowedor to the Independent National Electoral Commission, as well as the INEC from receiving his name and acting in any manner recognising him as the flag bearer of the PDP for the Delta 2023 Governorship elections.

The court also restrained Oborevwori from parading himself as the candidate of the PDP for the Delta 2023 Governorship election.

The orders emerged from an Exparte Motion in suit  number FHC/ABJ/CS/715/2022 filed by Moses Ogege and Timinepere Ogobiri of Patani LGA Ward 8 before His Lordship, Hon Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division on May 31, with the Peoples Democratic Party, the Independent National Electoral Commission and Francis Oborevwori as 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants, respectively.

After listening to Ibrahim Idris SAN, JD Jefia, Osita Alele and Sarafadeen Salimo for the plaintiffs, the court found that there were sufficient grounds to grant the interim injunction sought.

Accordingly, the court ordered the defendants to enter a defence within seven days of service to show cause why the reliefs sought by the plaintiffs should not be granted.

It also ordered the defendants not to do anything along the line of presenting or accepting Mr Oborevwori as the Delta PDP Governorship flag bearer nor Mr Oborevwori acting in such manner until the final determination of the matter by the court.

While the court also granted the plaintiff's prayers for accelerated hearing, the next date has been fixed for June 9.

Delta South: NNPP Candidate, NYCN Launched Voters Awareness Campaign in Warri

Delta South: NNPP Candidate Nesiama, NYCN Launched Voters Awareness Campaign in Warri

Francis Tayor

Warri_____ ln his bid to provide effective representation to the good people of Delta South Senatorial District at the red chambers in the National Assembly, the candidate of the New Nigerian People's Party (NNPP), Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd) has teamed up with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State to launch a Voters Enlightenment Campaign in LGA in order to sensitize eligible voters on the need to have their PVCs ahead 2023.
According to the Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Warri South LGA Chapter, Comr. Henry Efetobor, said the major reason for the enlightenment campaign exercise was to educate the grassroots on the importance and need for the electorates to register with INEC in order to have their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead 2023 general elections.

Addressing traders and market women at Essi Layout Ward 9 in Warri South LGA, Comr. Efetobor made them to understand that to make positive change in leadership, first the electorates (eligible voters) must register with INEC to collect their PVCs, stressing that the PVC is their right, civic responsibility and weapon to elect credible servant leaders to represent them in government.
He noted that without the PVCs, they cannot vote in good leaders to serve their common interest, adding that the PVC is their power to effect positive change of leadership in the society. He therefore, encourage them to register with INEC so as to collect their PVCs ahead the forthcoming 2023 general elections, saying that this is the only way for them to participate fully in the decision making process by electing capable persons to represent them, Efetobor stated.

Meanwhile, it will interest the general public to note that the exercise was powered by the Hope Restoration Movement (HRM) in order to awaken the market women and other eligible voters to get their voters cards before 2023 elections. The Hope Restoration Movement has not hidden its admiration for the NNPP candidate for Delta South Senatorial District, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd) who has the mission to restore the people's hope for a better tomorrow.

Buhari Shortlist Lawan, Osibanjo Presidential Aspirants as his Successor

Buhari Shortlist Lawan, Osibanjo Presidential Aspirants as his Successor

Abuja_____ President Muhammadu Buhari may have shortlisted Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Ahmad Lawan as his prefered successor.

The President had appealed to the APC governors to allow him to pick his preferred successor ahead of the party’s presidential primaries on June 6.

Buhari made the appeal during a meeting with the governors and the National Chairman of the ruling party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

A Presidential source disclosed that Buhari is torn between the choice of Lawan and Osinbajo, following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate.

According to the Daily Sun, a team is looking at the pros and cons of selecting Lawan or Osinbajo, with the view to giving President Buhari informed advice for the final decision to be made on his return from Spain by Friday.

The presidential source said Buhari during his meeting with APC governors carefully highlighted that his choice would be someone capable of driving his visions.

He said Osinbajo has also strongly defended Buhari’s policies and projects, having played a lead role in its execution with the management of key initiatives central to the administration’s strategic imperatives.

The presidential source added that Lawan has also supported key legislation and helped support the President’s external borrowing policy.

It was learned that a lobby group would be raised in the coming days to work in the north and south, depending on who the President chooses between Osinbajo and Lawan.

The lobby group is waiting to meet with northern and southern elders in APC to solicit support for either of the two presidential aspirants.

2023 Presidency: Emeka Ihedioha Likely to Emerge PDP Atiku Running Mate

2023 Presidency: Emeka Ihedioha Likely to Emerge PDP Atiku Running Mate

Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is reportedly favouring Emeka Ihedioha to emerge as his running mate.

Since Atiku emerged as the flag bearer of the main opposition party the names of Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Nyesom Wike, Udom Emmanuel have been thrown up as those considered to be the former VP’s running mate.

But sources have now tipped the former Imo state governor, Ihedioha to be selected.

When contacted, Media aide to the former Imo state governor, AIC Akwarandu told Vanguard that Ihedioha’s name is among other names being considered .
He said, “Ihedioha is not Vice President. Atiku is yet to choose. However, his name is among those being tipped for it which he has been indifferent about.”

But a source in the PDP revealed that Ihedioha has been favoured among others to be Atiku’s running mate.

He said, “Ihedioha has a very good relationship with Atiku and Tambuwal but he mobilized for Tambuwal during the primary and we all saw what happened when Atiku needed help, Tambuwal came to his rescue.

“As a party, we are looking at zoning the Vice Presidency slot to the southeast given the support of the region in time past to our party. And when I look at the track records of Ihedioha, he is the best fit for the role.”

Buhari Meets with APC Governors, Seeks Support to Pick his Successor

Buhari Meets with APC Governors, Seeks their support to pick his Successor

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, TO THE PROGRESSIVE GOVERNORS’ FORUM AT THE CONSULTATIVE MEETING HELD AT THE PRESIDENTIAL VILLA, ABUJA, ON TUESDAY, 31ST MAY, 2022

I am delighted to address this gathering of the Progressive Governors’ Forum as part of the consultative processes that have always strengthened the internal dynamics of our Party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

2. You will all recall that APC came to power at the center in 2015 through a cohesive machinery, notwithstanding its status as the opposition party. Similarly, in 2019, it was returned to power under my leadership, because of the dividends of democracy delivered to Nigerians irrespective of their political leanings.

3. The Party has since grown in strength and capacity to govern. The key to both electoral successes is the ability of the party to hold consultations and for its members to put the nation above other interests.

4. The transition processes for the 2023 General Elections have commenced in earnest and I note that the most successful Political Parties globally have always relied on their internal cohesion and a strong leadership brand to achieve bigger electoral fortunes. Our party, the APC, shall not be any different, more so as we are still implementing the blueprint for a more prosperous nation.

5. As I begin the final year of my second term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and leader of the Party, I recognize the compelling need for me to provide stronger leadership to the Party under this transition process and to ensure that it happens in an orderly manner.

6. Such leadership is required so that the Party remains strong and united. It is also needed to improve our electoral fortunes by ensuring that it retains power at the center, hold the great majority in various legislative chambers and also gain additional number of states at state levels.

7. In pursuit of the foregoing objectives, the Party has successfully established internal policies that promote continuity and smooth succession plans even at the state and local government levels. For example, first term Governors who have served credibly well have been encouraged to stand for re-election. Similarly, second term Governors have been accorded the privilege of promoting successors that are capable of driving their visions as well as the ideals of the party.

8. In a few days, the Party will be holding its Convention during which primaries would take place to pick the Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2023 General Elections. This is a very significant process and its outcome should prove to the world, the positive quality of the APC regarding democratic principles, culture as well as leadership.

9. As we approach the Convention, I appeal to all of you to allow our interests to converge, our focus to remain on the changing dynamics of our environment, the expectations of our citizens and the global community. Our objective must be the victory of our party and our choice of the candidate must be someone who would give the Nigerian masses a sense of victory and confidence even before the elections.

10. In keeping with the established internal policies of the Party and as we approach the Convention in a few days, therefore, I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the Governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

11. I wish to assure you that the consultation process shall continue to ensure that all aspirants and stakeholders would be brought on board right through to the convention. This would also ensure that any anxiety occasioned by different factors are effectively brought under control and that our party emerges stronger.

12. I thank you all for listening. God bless you all. God bless our Party, the APC and God bless our nation, Nigeria.

PDP Lists Gov. Okowa, Udom of Akwa-lbom As Vice Presidential Candidate

PDP Lists Gov. Okowa, Udom of Akwa-lbom As Vice Presidential Candidate

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for next year’s election, Atiku Abubakar, is considering choosing one of two South-South governors – Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State – as his running mate.

Party sources said Atiku began consultation with the leadership of the party shortly after he won the primary of the party held in Abuja Saturday night.

Atiku, in his previous outing as the candidate of the party at the 2019 election, picked former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as his running mate.

At the time, Mr Obi’s choice annoyed many party leaders, especially those from the South-East, who complained that he was a new entrant to the party and was neither familiar with leaders of the party in the region nor enjoyed their trust.

Mr Obi served two terms as governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He retrieved his first electoral victory in court from the PDP, whose candidate, Chris Ngige, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the winner of the 2003 governorship election in Anambra.

To avoid ruffling feathers again with his vice presidential pick, party sources said Mr Abubakar is working closely with Iyorchia Ayu, a long-time ally, and other top leaders of the party on the nomination of his running mate.

According to our sources, the discussions so far have focused on Mr Okowa and Mr Emmanuel, but the Delta governor is said to be the favourite.

Delta State delegates to the PDP National Convention on Saturday voted for Atiku, ignoring the two aspirants from their region, Rivers State Governor Wike and Mr Emmanuel.

This choice was despite Mr Okowa hosting a meeting of southern governors in May 2021 in Asaba at which they demanded in a 12-point resolution that the two major parties pick their presidential aspirants from the south of Nigeria.

Although other key PDP leaders like former governor James Ibori were also believed to have determined the voting pattern of Delta State delegates, the party is giving the credit for the delegates backing Atiku to the governor who they said has been strategic in his management of the party in the state.

Another factor said to favour Mr Okowa in the consideration is his close linguistic and cultural affinity with the South-East, as the Igbo language is spoken in the governor’s senatorial district in Delta State.

Atiku courted Igbo affection in the last election but will be overlooking the area in his choice of running mate this time due to a number of reasons, party sources said.

The immediate reason is that the two governors of the party from the zone – Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu – led their delegates to vote for Mr Wike at the convention. Atiku was however able to pick votes from Imo and Anambra delegates. Ebonyi State’s delegates voted for former Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim.

Party leaders are also said to be concerned about the threat of the socio-political association, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to disown any governor or politician who accepts nomination as a running mate for next year’s presidential poll.

Mr Emmanuel, who was a candidate in the PDP presidential primary like Atiku and won the votes of the 31 delegates from his state and those of seven others from Benue, is said to be in contention for the nomination because the candidate and party leaders see him and Mr Okowa as possessing the characters of their ideal vice president. Although Mr Udom’s refusal to step down for a more viable candidate even when he knew that he had less than 50 delegates in his bag may count against him.

However, party leaders believe the two governors would be loyal to their principal, while also having the capacity to perform the constitutional and other roles that may be assigned to them.

Atiku has a few more days to consider his options before he and other parties submit lists of their candidates to INEC from June 9.
