FG to Shut Down Errant Filling Stations as Petrol Price Hits N1,000/Litre

FG to Shut Down Errant Filling Stations as Petrol Price Hits N1,000/Litre

Many filling stations operated by independent oil marketers have now fixed the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, at between N900 and N1,000/litre.

Owners of these stations seem not to care about the cost of the product at retail outlets operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. Petrol prices at NNPC stations range from N568 to N617/litre. This often leads to queues at the stations.

As Nigerians raise concerns about the high cost of the commodity by independent petrol dealers, the Federal Government has also vowed to shut down filling stations that will be caught dispensing PMS at exorbitant rates.

It declared this through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, stressing that it was not in the interest of Nigerians for marketers to profiteer in the sales of PMS.

Independent oil marketers claimed that they’ve been buying petrol from private depot owners for as high as N850/litre since last week and that this was why the pump prices were high.

However, the spokesperson of the NMDPRA, George Ene-Ita, argued that the petrol price reports that the regulator gets from its officials at the depots were different.
“Our depot people see a different price because we ask them to publish the prices at the depots every day and it is not N850/litre. Our field agents at the depots give us a different figure,” he said.

When told that some filling stations operated by independent marketers in Lagos and many other states dispense their products for as high as N900 and N1,000/litre, the NMDPRA official said such outlets would be brought to book if apprehended.

“If we get these outlets, all we do is to try and shut them down, because NNPC is the company that brings in the product and they tell us how much they sell as their ex-depot prices to off-takers. And we sit down together and work out the margins and there is no way it should be that high,” Ene-Ita declared.

The NMDPRA official further noted that there was no way the agency could reconcile the high cost of petrol sold by independent marketers.

“Do you have these stations displaying the high prices on their pumps?” Ene-Ita asked.

Our correspondent responded in the affirmative, and the regulatory agency’s official declared again, “Once we get these outlets, we are going to shut them down. NNPC tells us how much they sell and there is no way the pump prices should be that high. We don’t expect it to be higher than N650/litre.”

The NMDPRA spokesperson warned marketers involved in profiteering to desist from the act, stressing that the agency would not fold its hands and allow operators to cheat Nigerians.

Findings by our correspondents show that marketers are making more profit as the fuel crisis rocking the country has refused to end.

The PUNCH reliably gathered that owners of filling stations have seized the opportunity to add to their margins as regulators could not enforce any particular price.

Due to the low supply from NNPC, private depot owners were said to have hiked the price of petrol as high as N850/litre.

The depots sell to independent marketers, who could not get the product directly from the NNPC at about N570/litre like the major marketers.

In return, the independent marketers sell a litre of petrol to motorists and other Nigerians at prices ranging from N850 to N900 or even N1,000 in some remote areas.

“That is why no marketer is complaining of low margins again. This is the time for them to make money. The only issue is that getting the product is not that easy,” a source told The PUNCH.

“The price is high because the supply is low. It is a matter of demand and supply. The price will continue to be up, at least for now. It Is an opportunity for the filling stations to add to their margins. This is an abnormal situation. Normalcy is restored, and the regulatory authority can monitor. Can the regulator monitor anybody now?

“Imagine when you pay about N30m to NNPC to order petrol and it takes about one month to get the product. Assuming you take N30m from a bank with this interest rate, is that not a problem?’  a marketer stated.

Sources at the Lagos depot informed our correspondent anonymously that the NNPC is still rationing the product despite assurances that normalcy would be restored last Wednesday.

It was gathered on Monday that marketers could only get half of whatever metric tonnes they bid for.

A depot operator said though the situation had improved a bit, the supply is still far below what is required to ease off the queues and make the product available for all Nigerians.

Another source hinted that the Federal Government is now prioritising the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to reduce the long queues in filling stations.

“The queue is easing a little bit in Abuja. Almost 70 per cent of the trucks are going to Abuja. The directive is that they should go to Abuja,” the depot operator confided in The PUNCH.

Contrary to claims that the marketers might be hoarding fuel, the manager of a filling station in Ogun State, who identified himself simply as Adeyanju, said no one hoards fuel because it will continue to dry up.

“The way PMS is, if you put 33,000 litres in a tank, if you hoard it for too long, by the time you want to haulage it, it may not be more than 31,000 or 32,000 litres. It will be evaporating. No tank operator will ever hoard fuel, not even at this time when people are making money,” the manager disclosed.

He added that no miracle could clear off the queues in this new week, asking the NNPC to ramp up supply.

On Monday in Osogbo, Osun State, petrol was sold by filling stations owned by independent marketers at prices ranging from N900 to N1000 per litre.

However, the few major marketers that dispensed petrol, sold the product for N700 per litre.

Many filling stations within the metropolis did not open to customers, as commercial intra-city bus operators increased their charges by 50 per cent due to the high cost of fuel.

Petrol was priced between N980 and N1000 at stations owned by independent dealers in Damaturu and its surrounding areas.

The same scenario played out in parts of Lagos and Ogun states, where petrol went for as high as N950 and N1,000/litre at independent marketers’ stations.

Following the reluctance of many marketers in Kano State to open their filling stations despite having the commodity in stock, black markets continued to thrive.

Delta State @33: Dagidi Felicitates with Gov. Oborevwori, Hails Deltans for their Support

GOODWILL  MESSAGE

As Delta State turns 33 today, I, on behalf of the people of Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, celebrate with our workaholic and amiable governor, His Excellency Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the government and the people of Delta State on this auspicious day of the creation of our dear state.

Your Excellency, you have justified the mandate given to you by God and the great people of Delta State through your pragmatic leadership style and dedication to moving Delta State to greater heights with legacy projects for sustainable development and growth.
It is my conviction and belief that, in the years to come, the M.O.R.E Agenda of your administration, of which I'm replicating here in Bomadi local government area, will make Delta State a centre of attraction wooing investors and tourists to the heart of the Niger Delta.

Your determination to serve Deltans was made more manifest after you took the bold step of wooing the construction giant, Julius Bergers Plc, back to the state, embarking on legacy projects such as roads and bridges.

While also commending past governors who did their best in the build of the state, your hunger and thirst for greater Delta as exemplified in your concerted effort for infrastructure boost and peaceful co-existence among Deltans, is made visible through your several swift responses to common challenges and threats to the prevailing peace we are enjoying in the state.

I commend and congratulate Deltans who have kept faith, as well as created the enabling environment for the government to work to achieve set goals to make Delta a Haven for all.

Happy 33th anniversary Delta State!

Featured Article: Rituals, Blood And Death, The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa_By Reuben Abati

Featured Article: Rituals, Blood And Death, The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa_By Reuben Abati

People tend to be alarmed when the Nigerian Presidency takes certain decisions. They don’t think the decision makes sense. Sometimes, they wonder if something has not gone wrong with the thinking process at that highest level of the country.

I have heard people insist that there is some form of witchcraft at work in the country’s seat of government. I am ordinarily not a superstitious person, but working in the Villa, I eventually became convinced that there must be something supernatural about power and closeness to it. I’ll start with a personal testimony. I was given an apartment to live in inside the Villa. It was furnished and equipped. But when my son, Michael arrived, one of my brothers came with a pastor who was supposed to stay in the apartment. But the man refused claiming that the Villa was full of evil spirits and that there would soon be a fire accident in the apartment. He complained about too much human sacrifice around the Villa and advised that my family must never sleep overnight inside the Villa.
I thought the man was talking nonsense and he wanted the luxury of a hotel accommodation. But he turned out to be right. The day I hosted family friends in that apartment and they slept overnight, there was indeed a fire accident. The guests escaped and they were so thankful. Not long after, the President’s physician living two compounds away had a fire accident in his home. He and his children could have died. He escaped with bruises. Around the Villa while I was there, someone always died or their relations died. I can confirm that every principal officer suffered one tragedy or the other; it was as if you needed to sacrifice something to remain on duty inside that environment. Even some of the women became merchants of dildo because they had suffered a special kind of death in their homes (I am sorry to reveal this) and many of the men complained about something that had died below their waists too.

The ones who did not have such misfortune had one ailment or the other that they had to nurse. From cancer to brain and prostate surgery and whatever, the Villa was a hospital full of agonizing patients.
I recall the example of one particular man, an asset to the Jonathan Presidency who practically ran away from the Villa. He said he needed to save his life. He was quite certain that if he continued to hang around, he would die. I can’t talk about colleagues who lost daughters and sons, brothers and uncles, mothers and fathers, and the many obituaries that we issued. Even the President was multiply bereaved. His wife, Mama Peace was in and out of hospital at a point , undergoing many surgeries. You may have forgotten but after her husband lost the election and he conceded victory, all her ailments vanished, all scheduled surgeries were found to be no longer necessary and since then she has been hale and hearty. By the same token, all those our colleagues who used to come to work to complain about a certain death beneath their waists and who relied on videos and other instruments to entertain wives (take it easy boys, I don’t mean nay harm, I am writing!), have all experienced a re-awakening.
Every one who went under the blade has received miraculous healing, and we are happy to be out of that place. But others were not so lucky. They died. There were days when convoys ran into ditches and lives were lost. In Norway, our helicopter almost crashed into a mountain. That was the first time I saw the President panicking, The weather was all so hazy and he just kept saying it would not be nice for the President of a country to die in a helicopter crash due to pilot miscalculations.

The President went into a prayer mode. We survived. In Kenya once, we had a bird strike. The plane had to be recalled and we were already airborne with the plane acting like it would crash. During the 2015 election campaigns, our aircraft refused to start on more than one occasion. The aircraft just went dead. On some other occasions, we were stoned and directly targeted for evil. I really don’t envy the people who work in Aso Villa, the seat of Nigeria’s Presidency. For about six months, I couldn’t even breathe properly. For another two months, I was on crutches. But I considered myself far luckier than the others who were either nursing a terminal disease or who could not get it up.
When Presidents make mistakes, they are probably victims of a force higher than what we can imagine. Every student of Aso Villa politics would readily admit that when people get in there, they actually become something else. They act like they are under a spell. When you issue a well- crafted statement, the public accepts it wrongly.
When the President makes a speech and he truly means well, the speech is interpreted wrongly by the public. When a policy is introduced, somehow, something just goes wrong. In our days, a lot of people used to complain that the APC people were fighting us spiritually and that there was a witchcraft dimension to the governance process in Nigeria.

But the APC folks now in power are dealing with the same demons. Since Buhari government assumed office, it has been one mistake after another. Those mistakes don’t look normal, the same way they didn’t look normal under President Jonathan. I am therefore convinced that there is an evil spell enveloping this country. We need to rescue Nigeria from the forces of darkness. Aso Villa should be converted into a spiritual museum, and abandoned.

Should I become President of Nigeria tomorrow, I will build a new Presidential Villa: a Villa that will be dedicated to the all-conquering Almighty, and where powers and principalities cannot hold sway. But it is not about buildings and space, not so? It is about the people who go to the highest levels in Nigeria. I really don’t quite believe in superstitions, but I am tempted to suggest that this is indeed a country in need of prayers.
We should pray before people pack their things into Aso Villa. We should ask God to guide us before we appoint ministers. We should, to put it in technocratic language, advise that the people should be very vigilant. We have all failed so far, that crucial test of vigilance. We should have a Presidential Villa where a President can afford to be human and free. In the White House, in the United States, Presidents live like normal human beings.

In Aso Villa, that is impossible. They’d have to surround themselves with cooks from their villages, bodyguards from their mother’s clans and friends they can trust. It should be possible to be President of Nigeria without having to look behind one’s shoulders.

But we are not yet there. So, how do we run a Presidency where the man in the saddle can only drink water served by his kinsman? No. How can we possibly run a Presidency where every President proclaims faith in Nigeria but they are better off in the company of relatives and kinsmen. No. We need as Presidents men and women who are willing to be Nigerians. No Nigerian President should be in spiritual bondage because he belongs to all of us and to nobody.

Now let me go back to the spiritual dimension. A colleague once told me that I was the most naïve person around the place. I thought I was a bright, smart, professional doing my bit and enjoying the President’s confidence. I spelled it out. But what I got in response was that I was coming to the villa using Lux soap, but that most people around the place always bathed in the morning with blood. Goat blood. Ram blood. Whatever animal blood. I argued.

He said there were persons in the Villa walking upside down, head to the ground. I screamed. Everybody looked normal to me. But I soon began to suspect that I was in a strange environment indeed. Every position change was an opportunity for warfare. Civil servants are very nice people; they obey orders, but they are not very nice when they fight over personal interests.

The President is most affected by the atmosphere around him. He can make wrong decisions based on the cloud of evil around him. Even when he means well and he has taken time to address all possible outcomes, he could get on the wrong side of the public.

A colleague called me one day and told me a story about how a decision had been taken in the spiritual realm about the Nigerian government. He talked about the spirit of error, and how every step taken by the administration would appear to the public like an error. He didn’t resign on that basis but his words proved prophetic. I see the same story being re-enacted. Aso Villa is in urgent need of redemption. I never slept in the apartment they gave me in that Villa for an hour.

NDNAF Opposes Planned Protest Against NDDC S.A. Youth Dango, Appeals for Peace and Dialogue

NDNAF Opposes Planned Protest Against NDDC S.A. Youth Dango, Appeals for Peace and Dialogue

The Niger Delta Nonviolence Agitators Forum (NDNAF) under the leadership of foremost Activist Comrade Wisdom Oniekpar Ikuli has opposed and also condemned in very strong term the planned protest against Mr. Matthew Asime Dango, the Special Adviser to the MD of NDDC on Youth Affairs.

Comrade Ikuli advised and also appealed that Niger Deltans should learn to resolve issues internally instead of running to the Social Media and other platforms to cast aspersions against their people especially those in public offices.
While the leadership of NDNAF acknowledges the genuine complaints and grievances of elders and critical stakeholders on different areas and issues, it believes that there are better ways of resolving all contentious issues without washing their dirty linens in the public.

Speaking further, Comrade Ikuli frowns at the endless hasty calls for sack of Niger Deltans in public offices. He said there are other Nigerians who are occupying different offices and it is difficult to see their people agitating for their sack as against the trend and daily occurrence in the Niger Delta where such calls has become a tradition.
They concluded by appealing for synergy between public office holders and the masses  and electorate whom they describe as the employers who engage and employ both elected and political appointees through their votes, thus deserve respect and recognition.

Just-ln: Ajaero’s lnvitation by Police: NLC Begins Nationwide Mobilisation for Nigeria's Economy Meltdown Strike

Just-ln: Ajaero’s lnvitation by Police: NLC Begins Nationwide Mobilisation for Nigeria's Economy Meltdown Strike

Abuja_____ The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Police, threatening a nationwide strike if the threat to arrest its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero is actualised.

This decision was made during an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the NLC headquarters on Tuesday following the police invitation to Ajaero and the threat of arrest should he fail to show up.
The meeting was convened to address the police invitation to Ajaero over allegations of terrorism financing.

The NEC resolved that Ajaero would honor the police invitation, but requested an extension of time through their legal adviser.

Deputy President Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani addressed the nation’s workforce, stating:

“We will cooperate with the police, but if our President is arrested, all workers will down tools immediately. Remain on standby for further directives from our leadership.”

The NLC asserts its commitment to peaceful resolution while standing firm against any perceived intimidation.

The threat of arrest and response from the NLC follows the shocking conviviialtiy that saw Ajaero in warm discussions with President Bola Tinubu during the negotiations for the new National Minimum Wage.
It would be recalled that Ajaero was despite his initial hardline posture commended by some for moderating the expectations of the working class in accepting the N70,000 minimum wage despite earlier assertions that the NLC would not accept a five figure minimum wage and hence the surprise about the threat of his arrest.

How Bomadi Council Boss, Dagidi Saved the Life of Okuama Indigene Detained in Okoloba

How Bomadi Council Boss, Dagidi Saved the Life of Okuama Indigene Detained in Okoloba

...As he vows to ensure peace, security in riverine communities

BOMADI____ The executive chairman, Bomadi local government area of Delta State, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, has secured and released the purportedly missing indigene of Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area, who was held hostage by the people of Okoloba community.

In the early hours of Thursday, the news of the detention of an indigene of Okuama by the people of Okoloba community broke out, causing panic and speculations in the creeks of possible renewal of hostilities.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, Chancel Bomadi Sunday, it disclosed that the honourable chairman of council would leave no stone unturned on issues of development and security of lives and property in the council area.
It stated that Hon. Dagidi swiftly swung into action on getting wind of the news of an indigene of Okuama being held hostage by neighbouring Okoloba community.

It also noted that the Dagidi-led council administration is poised to maintaining the prevailing peace, who earlier called on all security apparatuses to be on the alert to arrest the situation, as well as calling the leadership of Okoloba community not to harm the hostage.

The statement quoted the council chairman in a press briefing at the Bomadi Police Division: "This morning, while I was preparing to go to Asaba to attend an official function, I received a call from the Department of State Security, DSS and the Bomadi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, intimating me of the news of an Okuama indigene being held hostage by the people of neighbouring Okoloba community.
"When I heard that, I immediately abandoned my official assignment and called the chairman of Okoloba community not to harm the hostage, telling him that I'm coming to the community. After that, I reached out to my counterpart, the chairman of Ughelli South local government to know if he is aware of the situation, as well as telling him to come over to Bomadi for us to go to Okoloba.

"But, on arrival at Bomadi, I met the Okoloba community chairman and the hostage at the Bomadi Police Division because of my earlier reaction on phone.

"Already, every necessary arrangement has been made with the Bomadi DPO to move the hostage to the Utujeremi Police Division for his onward movement to Okuama community.

"I want to thank the proactive actions of the Bomadi Police Division and the DSS for their swift responses on issues of security in the local government area.

"I emphatically assure everybody that my administration has come to sustain the peace that Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori has zealously worked, and that there will be no more crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities".
However, the chairman of Okoloba community, Mr Clement Koki, who narrated the incident, said: "This morning around 6 am, we saw this man at our backyard and we asked him what brought him to our community, but he could not explain himself.

"So, they apprehended him and brought him to the community. We decided that we should bring him to Bomadi and hand him over to the police".

The hostage, who gave his name as Godwin Friday, upon questioning said that he was actually going to work but strayed beyond the boundary between the two communities.

He said: "I am an indigene of Okuama and Igbudu. This morning, I was going to do my wood work from Okuama at around 6.30 am when some boys, about four of them, accosted me and beat me.

"I was born and brought up in Warri and I don't actually know the boundaries between Okuama and Okoloba, and the place we work is close to that area. They took me to their community and handed me over to the community chairman".
However, the DPO, Bomadi Police Division, Adie P. Bissong, assured that he and his men would take the hostage to his counterpart in Ughelli South local government area.

Just-ln: Agadagba Elect of Egbema Kingdom, Barr. N.S. Egin warns further wrath of the gods against Egbema sons over false claim to the throne

PRESS RELEASE DATED 21/08/24

It has come to my attention that a Vanguard publication dated August 16th, 2024 attributed to Chiefs Matthew Tiemo and Bainmene Powei regarding the late Amb Meshack Ubabiri, whose tragic death occurred on January 14, 2024 has been made. Following my proclamation as the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom on October 17, 2022, late Meshack Ubabiri and his supporters orchestrated my abduction from the royal palace. Subsequently, they installed Meshack as the Agadagba of Egbema with the collaboration of a few individuals and the former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dcn Kingsley Otuaro. This shameful falsehood desecrated our traditions and ridiculed our kingmakers, compelling us to seek legal redress in the court of law.

Tragically, Meshack Ubabiri has met his untimely death, marking the sixth strange death in our kingdom since I was unjustly denied a peaceful ascension to our revered throne.  Nobody has ever died in front of our diety in the history of our kingdom. It is sad enough that late Ubabiri made history in this regard. It is even more pathetic that his handlers continue to peddle lies and falsehoods to give a good impression of his false claim to the throne. While extending condolences to his family and others affected, it is imperative to clarify that the legitimate kingmakers never appointed Meshack Ubabiri, and he shall not be recognised in life or death as the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom.

I have received information that a group of individuals led by Chief Matthew Tiemo is secretly planning to disrupt the current legal process by trying to establish a regency council to appoint someone else as king, regardless of the ongoing court proceedings. For the records, Chief Mathew Tiemo is not a chief of Egbema Kingdom. He has no traditional role to play with respect to the installation of a King in Egbema. Nobody or a group of persons can legitimately set up a regency council or install another king while the legal proceedings challenging the false claims of late Meshack Ubabriri and his sponsors are pending before a competent court of law.

Any attempt to continue in this falsehood planted by his sponsors will result in more tragedy in our kingdom. I am, therefore, calling on all men and women of goodwill from our dear kingdom to resist this falsehood and embrace truth and justice for the growth and development of our kingdom. Your support is crucial in this fight for justice. Anybody who offers himself in the manner that the late Meshack Ubabiri did should know that he is putting himself out for an adventure that is established on falsehood and injustice. Kings are not installed on faulty and false foundations.  Utolu ruling house, like his brothers, will have a peaceful and lengthy rein and make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of our dear kingdom. We must all embrace the truth for the prosperity of our kingdom.

I urge the indigenes of Egbema and the general public to therefore disregard the false claims of Meshack Ubabiri's ascension to our ancient traditional stool. We are persisting in pursuing justice through the ongoing legal proceedings, which are crucial in rectifying the injustices perpetrated against the good people of Egbema Kingdom. Our determination to see this through is unwavering, and we call upon the government of Delta State to uphold the integrity of the legal process and disregard any plan to set up a regency council to override the current legal proceedings.
May we find the strength, courage and grace to uphold justice and restore the honour of Egbema Kingdom, and may this ordeal lead us to a brighter future.

God bless Egbema.

Barr. N. S. Egin,
The Agadagba elect of Egbema Kingdom.

Rightful heir to Egbema traditional stool.

Just-ln: Sen. Adolphus Wabara Led PDP BoT to Visits Fubara, Promises to Resolve Rivers Crisis

Just-ln: Sen. Adolphus Wabara Led PDP BoT to Visits Fubara, Promises to Resolve Rivers Crisis

For the first time since October 2023 when the political crisis rocking Rivers State started, an advisory organ of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Board of Trustees (BoT) has paid an official visit to the state governor, Siminialayi Fubara and his camp to hear their side of the story.

The BoT of the PDP led by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who said they were on a fact-finding mission, also promised to visit the rival camp insisting that “there are always two sides to a coin.”

The BoT members held discussions with the governor and key members of his political camp in the state PDP at the Rivers Government House Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Wabara, in his remarks, said they visited as the conscience of the party in search of peace and unity following what he described as the ungodly tension in recent times that had threatened the PDP in Rivers.

Wabara, a former Senate President, said the PDP was scared of losing Rivers State and vowed that the BoT would seek constitutional resolution to the crisis.

He claimed that if the PDP truly lost Rivers, the future of Nigeria would be lost with no abiding hope.

Wabara acknowledged that Fubara had demonstrated enormous care for the PDP, saying the governor had been patient with the inactivity of the party leadership amidst the crisis.

He said: “We, the Board of Trustees of this party, came here in search of peace and unity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We have been reading all kinds of things on the pages of newspapers and the Internet, for those who are Internet savvy. But, we, as elders of this great party decided to come to hear from the horse’s mouth.

“First of all, we want to thank you for still being there because this party should not be allowed to die. And, it is for this very reason that I am thanking you, on behalf of my colleagues, and as you can see, it’s not from one geo-political zone. We are well-represented nationally.

“We were scared Sir, when we heard or read speculations, perceptions or what have you, that the party, if we are not careful, might lose Rivers State. Of course, if we lose Rivers State, Nigeria has lost its future.

“We don’t want what happened in 2015, and 2023 to repeat itself. These men and women you see here are very neutral. But as the conscience of the party, we must go by the rule of law. And anything you do, going by the rule of law, can never be wrong. It may be delayed, but it cannot be wrong.
“I don’t want to describe it. Otherwise, as a Governor, we have former Governors here, I doubt if they would have taken as much as you have. So, on behalf of this party, once again, let me thank you for your resilience, your wisdom, and the fact that you are still in this party.

“And to assure you that the Board of Trustees under my watch and with these serious-minded Nigerians, will deal with the matter as constitutionally allowed”.

Speaking after the meeting, Wabara expressed appreciation to Fubara for allowing them to hear his side of the story, and noted with optimism, that the political crisis in the state would soon be resolved.

He assured that the delegation would meet with the other party in the crisis to also hear from them, as according to him, “there is always two sides to a coin”, adding that it was better late than never.

Wabara reiterated that the PDP under his watch as BoT Chairman, would not allow what happened to PDP in 2015 and 2023 to repeat itself and would not stand helplessly while the largest party in Africa was being destroyed by a few individuals.

He said that based on its findings, the BoT would make its recommendations to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for implementation insisting that the party must be united to win the 2027 elections.

Addressing the BoT members, Fubara in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi, said he was still a member of the PDP and that Rivers was still a PDP-controlled state.

The governor emphasised the importance of clarifying that position to discountenance rumours being peddled in some quarters that he had left the PDP.

Fubara said as was normally expected, he doubted his membership of the PDP at some time but the visitation from the BoT had offered a stronger conviction that he was a member of the PDP family.

He said: “I want to thank the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees. Honestly speaking, if I was having any doubt about my membership first, of this great party, I think today, I have gotten a reconfirmation that I am still, not minding the drama around, a member of this party.

“And, I want to thank you for taking all the trouble to come to Rivers State to see the Governor and the supporters of the party, genuinely. I need to use that word, genuinely, because we, who are here, are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), undiluted.

“For once, I am happy to see the leaders, among whom are some founding fathers of the PDP, like Chief Bode George, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, joining the delegation here to talk about the unity of the party.”

Fubara recalled their courage, sacrifices and foresight when they crafted the Constitution of the PDP and nurtured it to become what people had come to know and greatly benefited from.

The governor said: “It doesn’t matter the number of people who watered it (PDP) and it became what it is. I am happy that today, they are with us here to discuss the issue of Rivers State.

“I want to assure members of our party, genuine members of PDP that are here with us, that this is another hope to show that our decision to stand by the party, still standing by the party, is not a wrong decision”.

Fubara stated that “the visit by the delegation of BoT is for one purpose, to ascertain what is the problem that has caused so much dissatisfaction and tearing down the party; how it started and how it degenerated to what it is today.”

The governor said in such efforts to search out the truth, it was also vital for them to understand how passionately he cherished the importance of information and the need to stay on the path of truth.

Fubara said: “I am very conscious of the importance of information. I know that a lot of information is flying here and there. But, I also know that whatever I have said anywhere, I have still maintained that position.

“What I have said in Abuja is the same thing I say in Port Harcourt. If I have had any encounter with anybody in Lagos, I don’t think my story has changed. So, I strongly believe that when we go into the executive session, I will let the board members who have visited us know or hear my side of the story.

“But, so far, what is important this afternoon is that we are still members of the party, and the owners of the party have visited us.

“So, for those people outside who are carrying all sorts of rumour and propaganda, at least, this visit will put those propaganda to rest, and to tell the world that we are and we remain members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
