Just-ln: Dangote Refinery Rolls Out Petrol, Product to Hit the Market Soon

Just-ln: Dangote Refinery Rolls Out Petrol, Product to Hit the Market Soon

After over a year of its launch in May 2023, Dangote Refinery, on Tuesday, rolled out its first Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from its 650,000 barrels per day facility.

At a press conference, owner of the Lagos-based refinery and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote declared that “it’s a celebration day” for Nigerians.

He assured all citizens that they “are now going to have good petrol while the engines of your vehicles will last longer. You will not be having an engine issue, which a lot of us were having. It won’t happen at all.”

“The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world; US, America, we will make sure that nobody will beat us in terms of quality,” Dangote said.
‘We’ll Save Forex’
The refinery owner said as soon as his company finalises modalities with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the product will hit the market.

“As soon as we finalise with the NNPCL, our product will start going into the market.

“We will help to restore industry and manufacturing. We will begin real import substitution, which is what we have, you know, saving foreign exchange, earning foreign exchange, which will stabilise the naira, and it will also help bring down inflation and cost of living,” he stated.

Last December, Dangote, Africa’s leading industrialist, commenced operations at his $20bn facility sited in Lagos with 350,000 barrels a day.

The refinery, which was initially bogged by regulatory battles, hopes to achieve its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day by the end of the year.

The refinery has begun the supply of diesel and aviation fuel to marketers in the country and now petrol.

NNPCL Debt Challenge
The rollout of petrol by the Dangote Refinery followed the admission by the NNPCL that it owes “significant debt to petrol suppliers” and this poses a threat to the sustainability of fuel supply.

There have been reports that a $6 billion debt the NNPCL owes petrol suppliers has worsened petrol scarcity in Nigeria, a perennial feature since the beginning of 2024.

At different times, the NNPCL blamed logistics challenges, and flooding, amongst others for the supply shortages of the essential commodity.

However, in a statement on Sunday, NNPCL spokesman Olufemi Soneye said “this financial strain has placed considerable pressure on the company and poses a threat to the sustainability of fuel supply”.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, faces energy challenges, with all its state-owned refineries non-operational. The country is heavily reliant on imported refined petroleum products, with the state-run NNPC being the major importer of the essential commodities.

Fuel queues are commonplace in the country. Prices of petrol tripled since the removal of subsidy in May 2023, from around ₦200/litre to about ₦800/litre, compounding the woes of the citizens who power their vehicles, and generating sets with petrol, no thanks to decades-long epileptic electricity supply.

The government simultaneously unified forex windows, with the value of the naira nosediving terribly from $1/₦700 to over $1/₦1600 at the parallel market. Prices of food and basic commodities immediately climbed through the roof as Nigerians battled attendant inflation.

Just-ln: NNPC Wants Private Companies to Run The Refineries in Warri and Kaduna

Just-ln: NNPC Wants Private Companies to Run The Refineries in Warri and Kaduna

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has declared its intention to work with private companies to oversee and maintain its refineries in Warri and Kaduna.

The Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) are the refineries.

NNPC disclosed this on Thursday through a circular shared via its X handle.

It said the decision is to ensure reliability and sustainability to meet the nation’s fuel supply and energy security obligations.

“NNPC Ltd is seeking to engage reputable and credible Operations & Maintenance (O&M) companies to operate and maintain two of its refineries, Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), to ensure reliability and sustainability to meet the nation’s fuel supply and energy security obligations.
“The O&M tender for WRPC and KRPC will be treated as a single tender through a three stage tender process (expression of interest, EOI, technical and commercial) leveraging on all the possible opportunity costs associated with procurement of consumables, personnel/manpower management, utilisation of computerised maintenance management software (CMMS), warehousing management system (WMS) etc,” the circular read in part.

The Warri refinery located at Warri in Delta State was commissioned in 1978, with a nameplate distillation capacity of 6,250,000 MTA (125,000 bpd).

The refinery complex includes a petrochemical plant commissioned in 1988 with production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. The refinery is meant to supply markets in the south and southwest regions of Nigeria.

On its part, the Kaduna refinery was commissioned in 1980 to supply petroleum products to Northern Nigeria with a capacity of 50,000 B/D.

In 1983, the capacity was expanded to 100,000 B/D by adding a second 50,000 B/D crude train dedicated to the production of lubricating oils (lubes).

In 1986, the capacity of the first crude train was expanded to 60,000 B/D. The expansions have increased the current nameplate capacity of the refinery to 110,000 B/D.

How Rights Activist, Ozobo Austin, Exposes Shell's False Claims on Oil Spills in Niger Delta

How Rights Activist, Ozobo Austin, Exposes Shell's False Claims on Oil Spills in Niger Delta

Comrade Ozobo Austin, a renowned Niger Delta rights and environmental activist, has vehemently countered Shell Petroleum Development Company's assertions on Vanguard Newspaper on Sunday 31st August, 2024 that oil theft is the primary cause of oil spills in the region. In a scathing response, Ozobo revealed that the actual culprits behind the oil spills are the aging facilities, daily oil exploration activities and system failures, not oil theft.

The activist noted that with the presence of Tantita Security Service Limited and other indigenous security companies policing the oil pipelines, oil theft had been significantly reduced to the barest minimum. "It's unimaginable for Shell to continue raising false alarms about oil theft truncating oil daily output when the reality on the ground is different.",he added.

Ozobo exposed the real perpetrators of oil theft, pointing fingers at the oil company officials in the Niger Delta who exploit a bad metering system, barging, and under-reporting daily production output. He emphasised that local oil bunkering and oil activities have been curtailed for the past three years, contradicting Shell's claims.
"The majority of oil spills in the Niger Delta are caused by the decrepit state of Shell's infrastructure, including pipelines, flow stations, and other facilities," Ozobo said. "Years of neglect and lack of investment in maintenance have led to frequent system failures, resulting in devastating oil spills that harm our environment and communities."

The activist argued that Shell's claim of oil theft being the main cause of oil spills was an attempt to deflect attention from the company's own negligence and lack of accountability. He pointed out that Shell's facilities in the Niger Delta are some of the oldest in the world, with some pipelines dating back to the 1960s.

"It's unacceptable for Shell to continue blaming oil theft for its own failures. The company must take responsibility for its actions and invest in upgrading its infrastructure to prevent these spills. Our communities deserve better than to have their lives and livelihoods constantly threatened by Shell's negligence."he added.

"The federal government should look inward and investigate oil theft within the oil companies, security and government officials who connive to under-report actual daily production and load more barrels than reported," Ozobo demanded. "It's time to stop blaming local communities and address the real issues of aging infrastructure and system failures." He appealed for transparency and accountability in the oil industry.

His statement highlights the need for a thorough investigation into oil theft and spills, focusing on the root causes rather than scapegoating local communities.

Just-ln: Onyeka Onwenu Quietly Laid to Rest in Lagos According to Her Burial Wishes

“Bury Me Quickly, Quietly, and Privately” - Onyeka Onwenu

Lagos ____ Nigeria's celebrated music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, known as the "Elegant Stallion," has been laid to rest in Lagos.

The funeral service was held at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi.

As she wished, Onyeka Onwenu's funeral is being held quietly and privately today in Lagos, thanks to her sons, who honored her request for a quick, quiet, and private burial.

According to exclusive reports by CKN NEWS , a private funeral service will be held in her honor at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi.

Until CKN News broke the story that she was being laid to rest today in Lagos, the Nigerian entertainment, movie, social, and political sectors, where she was a prominent figure during her lifetime, were unaware of her funeral plans.
Recall that veteran musician and actress Onyeka Onwenu shared her burial wishes shortly after her 70th birthday in January 2022. According to reports, she instructed her family to bury her quickly, quietly, and privately when she eventually passed away.

"I've told my family how I want to be buried. Do it quickly, quietly, and privately. Celebrate me with prayers, lunch, or dinner afterward. Share some jokes about me and laugh. Mourn, but not excessively. Make merriment and then go about your business.
"If my friends want to celebrate me, they should do so while I'm alive, so I can enjoy it with them, not when I'm gone and have no idea," she said.

Sadly, Onyeka Onwenu passed away yesterday in Lagos at the age of 72, shortly after performing at a birthday event.

The renowned singer-songwriter, actress, human rights activist, journalist, and politician was a woman of many talents, and she made a positive impact on society. Until her passing, she remained passionate about her home state, Imo, and spoke out against the rising insecurity that threatened its reputation for peace and hospitality.

Opinion: The Menace of Broken Relationships, Man and Woman, Who is Most Responsible

Opinion: The Menace of Broken Relationships, Man and Woman, Who is Most Responsible ?

INNOCENT MEN LISTEN,

Men hardly end relationships or marriages. it's always some women who find it very easy to break or scatter relationships and marriage.

There are always statistics to back up these claims.

The reason why some women finds it very easy and lucrative to break up, divorce or end relationships and marriage is simply because they don't invest much on those enterprise rather they are the highest beneficiaries of those enterprise.

Some Men can endure and tolerate a women shenanigans and still try to make things work even if its not favoring them, some men can stay in such hostile environment believing and hoping that things could change for better but women don't have such patience at all.

The moments in which any relationships and marriage fail to favor some women to their own satisfaction, the next thing they think about is how to end the relationship and look for another man.

Most times this their attitude comes from the knowing that they don't have anything much to lose since they never even invested in the relationship at all and again they tend to break it easily when they know that they have benefited more than they have lost.

Its always the man who suffers the loss more than the women, he yields the highest responsibilities in marriage and relationship, he does the most, most times those women are just there adding nothing but sex and babies that the man can get cheaply from other women out there.

It is what it is.

This is why i warn you, brothers.

Never invest in a woman what you can't let go of when she disappoints you.

They have nothing to lose, so they won't think twice about dumping you if it pleases them

Be wise.

Bomadi Legislative Arm, Critical Stakeholders Laud Dagidi on Renovation of High Court Premises, Others

Bomadi Legislative Arm, Critical Stakeholders Laud Dagidi on Renovation of High Court Premises, Others

Criticisms, threat on LG Intervention in High Court projects:

*We're part and parcel of ongoing projects—Bomadi legislature

*Renovation of Bomadi court premises, a welcome devt—Barr Police

*A step in the right direction—IPDI

*Our area left undeveloped for these reasons—Barr Opukiri

BOMADI—The Bomadi Legislative Assembly, activists and lawyers have reacted to Barr Fun-Ororo Enarebor, a critic of the ongoing projects embarked upon by the executive chairman of Bomadi local government area of Delta State, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, describing his position as inimical to the progress of the deserted judiciary in Bomadi.

Recall that Barr Enarebor, Monday, posted on Facebook, among other criticisms described the award of contract on the access road leading to the State High Court, renovation of the court room and building of the judge's residence to enable judges reside in Bomadi, as unauthorized projects/award of contracts without legislative approval and non-adherence to the 2024 budget of the council.

He described execution of the projects as misappropriation of funds by the council chairman and threatened that it would be resisted by any means necessary.
However, reactions from the public through an opinion poll on the subject matter, carried out by the office of the Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, coordinated by Chancel Bomadi Sunday, speakers deduced cynical disposition on the part of the critic, as well as describing the move of council as developmental steps in the right direction.

*We're part and parcel of the decision—Hon. Tamadoubra, Leader of BLA

The leader of the Bomadi Legislative Assembly, Hon. Wurukeseye Taramadoubra, in his reaction, said: "First and foremost, the Bomadi Legislative Assembly is part and parcel of those projects. The chairman of council told us and presented his decision to intervene in these projects which we wholeheartedly consented to their execution.

"So, what that man is posting on Facebook is not from us because the Bomadi Legislature is a partner in the development and progress of Bomadi local government area and her people. Let him be doing his nonsensical business, we can never be associated with somebody like that. To cut a long story short, the Bomadi Legislature is part and parcel of the ongoing projects at the State High Court"

I pulled my shoes to walk into the Bomadi courtroom—Barr Police

A legal practitioner, Barr Pere Police, reacting from Yenagoa over  the ongoing projects at the judiciary High Court premises in Bomadi, said: "Those projects are welcome development to all lawyers, the people of Bomadi and Burutu local government areas. This is what we expected a long time a go and I'm appalled this young man came up with this idea of attending to our pains as lawyers.

"There is nothing wrong in the chairman of council intervening in the execution of these projects. Though, it's something the judiciary ought to have done, in my opinion the local government council can write to the judiciary for claims after completion of these projects, if they wish to.

"The last time I went to that court to handle a case, I had to pull my pair of shoes to walk into the court room. This is to tell you the level of dilapidation of the court premises.

"If it was an individual that started the access road project and the council chairman in his wisdom decided to award a contract on the project, then this chairman is God-sent to the people of Bomadi local government area.

"To hell with whoever criticizing this laudable effort, which is for our own comfort, or is that person alright? It's a wonderful effort on the part of the council chairman and it will make judges to reside in Bomadi to dispense justice.

"So, we are happy with the council chairman and it is only God that will bless this young council chairman".

An activist and president of the Ijaw People's Development Initiative, IPDI, Comrade Austin Ozobo, in his reaction said: "No councillor in the legislative arm of a local government has the right to approve projects intermittently. What they do is to look at all the projects in the yearly budget and approve what they want to approve and their power ends there.

"If projects embarked upon by the council chairman are not captured in the yearly budget, it's the chairman that knows how he would raise the money to fund the projects.
"So, what the lawyer is saying is completely out of sense because the council chairman will not approach the councillors every time to approve projects, it's now on the council chairman to raise funds for such projects.

"However, he should be applauded by the people of Bomadi local government area because these are laudable projects, they are the people to benefit the projects".

Our Area left undeveloped for these reasons—Barr Opukiri

Moreover, a lawyer, Barr E.U. Opukiri, also reacting said: "The attack on the council chairman's intervention on these projects is the level of stupidity in some of our people. They criticize every good thing and that's why some good-spirited people who intend to help are hesitant.

"First, this news is a welcome development and let the young man continue with his good job because Fun-Ororo cannot stop that bold step he has taken. He should continue so our court can relocate from Ughelli to Bomadi.

"Now, litigants are suffering so much by traveling to Ughelli, imagine the distance, risks and everything involved. You see, people gave the Okuama crisis as an excuse that there is trouble in Ijaw land and for that flimsy excuse, the court was transferred to Ughelli, though no judge was kidnapped in Bomadi.

"So, we as lawyers applaud the young man for intervening to save the judiciary in Bomadi local government area. What does Fun-Ororo know in Ijaw land, or is it only by speaking English Language without morals, character and understanding?

"In fact, I will present this issue in the Ijaw Lawyers' Forum because I see no reason why he should challenge the execution of these projects in his own area.

"I don't know why some of our people lack understanding in this 21st century when everybody, when everywhere is progressing leaving them behind. I call on the council chairman to be strong and continue his good job".

More Details Emerge On Why DSS Boss Yusuf Bichi, Resigned From Tinubu Govt

Emerging details have shed light on the reasons behind Yusuf Bichi’s sudden resignation as the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, a move that has sparked widespread attention across Nigeria’s political landscape.

On Tuesday, President Tinubu made headlines by appointing Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Adeola Ajayi as the new head of the DSS, effectively replacing Bichi.

These appointments are said to be part of a broader strategy by the Tinubu administration to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and kidnapping.
Sources close to the situation have revealed that Bichi’s resignation was primarily influenced by his alleged interference with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu’s, strategy to eliminate terrorism.

Ribadu reportedly felt that Bichi’s actions were undermining his efforts to coordinate and execute the President’s directives aimed at addressing the growing security threats facing the country.

“Ribadu feels Bichi has been sabotaging his coordinating efforts to carry out the marching orders given by the President to rid the country of terrorists and kidnappers,” a source familiar with the matter disclosed.

The new DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, is a seasoned operative who has risen through the ranks, holding key positions in various states, including Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.

His appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the DSS, aligning the agency’s operations more closely with the administration’s security objectives.

The reshuffle within Nigeria’s top security apparatus underscores the Tinubu administration’s determination to revamp the country’s approach to combating internal security challenges.

As the new leadership settles into their roles, all eyes will be on how these changes impact the ongoing efforts to secure Nigeria against the persistent threats of terrorism and kidnapping.
