Opinion: King Asari Dokubo's Stance: A Roadblock to the ljaw People's Path to Prosperity: An Unwitting Enemy of Progress

It's surprising that Asari, an Ijaw king appears unaware of the transformative potential that creating Ezon-ebe State could have in propelling progress, fostering economic growth, and bringing governance closer to the often-overlooked rural Ijaw communities. The creation of Ezpn-ebe state represents a significant liberatory step away from the perennial competition with neighbouring tribes, opening pathways for self-determination and tailor-made development strategies that truly speak to the unique needs of rural ijaw communities.

A king is expected to be a champion for progress, advocating for the creation of states and local councils that empower his constituency. Yet, I find myself surprised  by king Asari's contrary stance, which seems to eschew these transformative possibilities.

The King's reluctance to embrace such forward-thinking initiatives suggests his  comfort with the status quo and an acceptance of the ongoing underdevelopment that has blighted Ijaw communities for far too long. His position may also reflect a fear of losing some of the privileges he currently enjoys—a personal concern that should never take precedence over the collective welfare of the people.

Perhaps he is unaware that no Ijaw community currently is like any state capital in Nigeria, where infrastructure, opportunities, and services are concentrated. This glaring disparity underscores the urgency for an initiative like the creation of Ezon-ebe State, which holds the promise of metamorphosing rural ijaw communities into a hub of progress within a remarkably short timeframe.

King Asari needs to realize that the creation of Ezon-ebe State could catalyze substantial development within just five years. Imagine a region bustling with its own state and federal secretariats, and providing ample employment opportunities.   Alongside, an immigration office, police headquarters, university, and colleges of education, etc.  would offer not only essential services but also arresting growth opportunities for residents. The regular federal allocations would underpin socio-economic projects, ranging from road construction and healthcare expansions to bolstering local industries.

Add to this is the prospects of an airport facilitating connectivity, banks fostering economic activities, and infrastructure elevating living standard. Above all, one of my fathers, mothers, uncles, etc living in my backyard  will be the state governor.

The very future of numerous impoverished Ijaw villages like could be redefined, evolving rapidly into vibrant cities. The comprehensive development of these communities would alleviate the long-standing burdens of underdevelopment.

It is incumbent upon King Asari to reconsider his stance on state creation. His current position stands as a disservice to the Ijaw people—a community rich in culture and potential but in dire need of enhanced developmental frameworks that such an initiative promises to deliver. Embracing this change does not only honour the royal duty of advancing communal welfare but also secures a legacy of visionary leadership that prioritises the prosperity and empowerment of the Ijaw people for generations to come.

King Asari has effectively managed to position himself as an enemy to his own subjects.
